Galaxy Cinema

An area theater that brings in movies not available in larger theaters is a wonderful concept. However, I found the Galaxy to be dirty and the interior had an unpleasant odor. I felt so uncomfortable, I left shortly after the film started. I believe that allowing such an environment shows disrespect for the patrons. If the Galaxy is interested in keeping patrons, they must bring in the cleaning crew more regularly. more

when i complained to the manager he was apologetic but ineffective. during the entire moving the same group of kids +5 or 6 others continuously ran in and out of the theater yelling, kicking seats and talking loud. the manager did nothing. after the moving, i complained again and he apologized and said parents drop their kids off and stick him with them. i told him it says something when its a friday night and there are only a hand full of people in the theater...no lines. more

When the Madstone closed unexpectedly not long ago, i fully expected this space to sit unoccupied for years. Imagine my delight, then, as drove past and saw that Galaxy cinema had opened it its place! The interior is almost unchanged, except for the addition of some flat-screen monitors displaying previews in the lobby, and a flashing mural over the snack bar. The snack bar offerings are pretty much the same, too: popcorn candy, coffee, biscotti, and beer and wine. The film selection is still almost exclusively small and independent films, with an added concentration on lesser known foreign films, including lots of Hindi and Bollywood. Any way you look at it, this is a great thing development for film lovers in the Triangle. more

Galaxy Cinemas, which used to be known as The Madstone, is located near Cary Towne Center Mall. It’s the only place you can normally see independent films in Cary. It has several theatres. They’ve got a small refreshment area (I believe there is free popcorn) so that you won’t go hungry or thirsty while you’re watching. They also offer a membership package for you hardcore indy film fans which gives you discounts and free admissions and other goodies. They have a great selection of films, including foreign language films to attract a wide variety of people. They are located near several cheap restaurants and parking is ample. more
