Horrible 1/21/2011

This place is horrible, the food is at best, old. The waitstaff were friendly but that did not make up for spoiled food. Someone should monitor the expiration dates on the products which you are selling, thank God myself and my friends only were sick for a day and not hosipitalized for salmonella posioning. Hopefully this was only a one time issue, however we will never go back to try it again. more

Comfortable 7/6/2009

My family and I have been coming to Elmos for the bad 2 years. I would give it 3 1/2 stars if that had been a choice. It usually decent food. I have had some great meals and I have had some horrible meals here. I come back because thet are very kid friendly and the staff is always nice. I also think it is a good value (if the meal was good) for the money. Usually you cannot go wrong with breakfast fare. more

Good Serivce Poor Food, Poor Portion as well 4/5/2008

Service was great! Food on the other hand was bad, so fare as the portions sizes. It's a diner not Burger King. After me and my family spent 30.00 dollars plus a good tip for the great service. We went and had to get something to eat at the local Cook Out. Which we was thinking, we should have just gone there all along. We would have spent half the money and would have been more satisfied none the less. The Kids Meal, if that is what you want to call it that. We order burger and applesauce, and oone with carrots. That was a big joke as well. Burger dry , nothing on it. Carrots dry no dipping sauce. Like I said good service bad food. Cons: Service was great! more

The best place for kids, and a huge menu 3/25/2007

This is what a good old family restaurant is all about. They've got a huge menu, ranging from a turkey dinner with stuffing and mashed potatoes to breakfast anytime. I love this place. I wouldn't park in their dirt lot--just park down the street and walk a block or so. Also, don't expect to sit down right away, especially for breakfast on the weekends. Pros: Solid food, huge selection, great service Cons: It's so popular, expect to wait a while at peak times more

Best Diner in Durham 11/13/2006

This restaurant is wonderful. I was a skeptic at first but my friend took me there and changed my mind completely. Great food, Great service and Great prices. What more could you want for a cheap excellent lunch. Pros: Cheap good eats Cons: Parking-plan to get there before the regulars do for lunch more

Great Food, Friendly Service 11/12/2006

I just move from Atlanta and had a hard time finding good LOCAL places to eat before Elmo's I had been stuck with chain restaurants and fast food. Elmo's has great breakfast with a friendly staff and relax atmosfera. I have been 2 times and everything had been excelent. So far my favorite place to get breakfast. I recomend the grits, the blueberry panckages are delicious and their omelets to die for. Pros: Great Food, friendly Staff more

Great diner food 9/14/2006

My favorite place for brunch. The Chicken and Dumplings are fabulous! Pros: Great food more

Good Diner Food, Great Service 9/29/2005

The ambience of Elmo's is pretty much a modern, suburban diner with counter space and lots of tables. The menu is pretty standard, and the food is good, though not outstanding. However, it's great given the low prices, as well as the excellent service. The waitstaff are very friendly and give you just the right amount of attention. I've been here for breakfast several times, and really enjoy the breakfast burrito - a deal at $5.50 with homefries and beans. The only time they ever got my order wrong, they cheerfully rectified the mistake at no charge. While I find the food average, I'm happy to be a repeat customer given the prices and the good service. Pros: Prices, Service more

Elmo's Diner Rules 8/26/2005

I keep finding an excuse to come back to eat at Elmo's! Whether it is for the Vegi-Chili, the Trifecta, the incredible vegi-burger, the hamburgers or any one of their breakfasts... it doesn't matter. I've eaten there seven days a week for two weeks once and I could still find something new on the menu. Elmo's I love you and I am spreading the love across the U.S.A.! more

Great little diner! 8/11/2005

Great place to go for Sunday brunch or any time for that matter! Service is always good and fast! Selection is wonderful. Pros: Cheap, Fast, Location Cons: Parking more

Ninth Street's greatest asset 5/29/2005

Elmo's is the greatest place to go for eggs and grits. The shrimp & grits special is particularly good. I've always gotten friendly service, and the prices are very reasonable. I also love being able to get breakfast all day. It can get busy at certain peak times, but Sunday brunch is the only time I just wouldn't go. Pros: delicious, inexpensive, open late Cons: crowds at peak times more

Doesn't live up to its hype 10/21/2004

I don't know what the deal is with this place. When we moved here this summer, people told us we had to go here with our kids because the food was great and it was family-friendly. Yes, they provided crayons and an Elmo coloring page, but the food was sub-standard. What I thought was going to be a twist on diner food was pretty much run-of-the mill diner fare. None of us in our lunch party (my husband and his parents) raved about our food and in fact we thought it was pretty blah. Pros: family-friendly Cons: , long wait at times more

Pleasant 9/9/2003

Good diner food at a pretty good price. The menu has good variety, but you will never go wrong with ordinary diner food. Strikes a good balance between niceness and informality. A good place to talk. Pros: Good, Pleasant, Inexpensive Cons: Can get busy more

Elmo's rules 2/24/2003

Elmo's is very inexpensive and is always reliable. Great coffee, fast and efficient service. A real attribute for Durham! We go here often and are seldom disappointed. My recommendation: pancakes or huevos rancheros, and coffee, of course. Pros: Inexpensive, Good coffee, Fast more

Great for Breakfast 1/27/2003

Great place for an inexpensive breakfast if you dont mind a diner. The service is very quick. Pros: cheap, good food Cons: busy on wknd mornings more

solid breakfast 8/14/2002

elmo's is a good diner... nothing highly original or innovative on the menu but food is consistently good. excellent place to bring kids as their tolerance is high. not a standout among it's peers however. Best thing to have is their breakfast omelets. only drawback is the parking which can be painful to find. Pros: consistent, good for kids Cons: can be boring, parking more
