Denise's Homemade Ice Cream

I consider myself an ice cream and frozen yogurt expert. Since moving to Boston a few years ago, I have sampled all the ice cream around town. It is time to share the secret of Denise's homemade ice cream with my fellow Beantowners. Run to Denise's to try their oreo, chocolate or vanilla frozen yogurt. It is creamy and it actually has a lot of flavor. The ice cream is perfect- not as decadent as Toscanini's. It is a balance of creaminess, richness and flavor. I live in ice cream heaven and I drive all the way to Somerville to enjoy Denise's Homemade Ice Cream delites! You can really enjoy a new flavor and a movie for under $10 in Union Sq. My favorite flavors have coconut in it! Mmmm. more

This place definitely has the best ice cream flavors I've tasted in the Boston area -- and I've tasted a lot in the past year, as I'm investigating opening an ice cream parlor. Even the vanilla is outstanding! The location is small, but they have plenty of outdoor seating, and the owners are very involved and very accessible. Pros: great flavors! Cons: limited seating more

When I saw Denise's ranked so high I just had to scratch my head and wonder why. I've been there a few times and never walked away too impressed. If lots of different flavors are your thing, then sure this is the place for you. But let me suggest that you go to Christina's (Inman Square) or Toscanini's (Central Square) for lots of flavors. If it's value you're looking for, I suggest going to Brigham's. The ice cream is not worth what you pay at Denise's. I suppose it is rated highly because it gets a good following from the Tufts students that hang out in Davis Square. Apparently not many of them make it to the other ice cream places around Boston. One good suggestion that isn't in the Top 10 list: Putnam Pantry in Danvers. Load up with tons of gooey toppings. You won't be disappointed! Look. This place has good ice cream and a good selection of flavors. It is not outstanding, but it is good. I can't speak about other ice creams in Boston, so I don't know how it compares. What was cool was that it is right on Davis square. It is an ice cream shop so there was movie theater nearby. Davis square, and Denise's too, was populated with young families with babies and toddlers and such. The 2 yr old with us was welcome and was able to play a little with other kids. The staff is a little strange and was not exactly customer oriented, but they weren't impolite and got the orders right Pros: pretty good ice cream, kid frienly, at davis square Cons: staff not the best more
