Editorial review from Citysearch 3/22/2013

Worst Chinese Food ever!! AWFUL! We ordered the General Chu's chicken. The chicken was weird tasting, like it was thawed out too long and had almost gone bad before it was cooked. It was awful. The Kung Pao was no better. The only thing I ate was the Lo Mein, soaked in MSG of course, even though I asked and they said it wasn't. I should've known it was gonna be bad when the food showed up a minute after ordering it. If I had wanted Chinese fast food I would've gone to Panda Express, which is fine cuisine by comparison to this joint. On top of everything the server/cook had a serious attitude problem. $30 down the drain and a stomachache later, I warn you to stay away! more

One of the best 2/8/2011

In a small town like Price Ut, there really isn't any good Chinese food like we had been used to while living in northern Ut. So we are always looking for good Chinese restaurants. We read about Davids here on city search while planning a trip to SLC. And I must say we have found a place to come back to every time!! My Husband and I enjoyed our favorite dish , Generals chicken, and one of Henrie suggestions Pork w/ fresh veggies and also the atmosphere. The service was ,at first, a concern, but after another table left it was better. We were definitely won over when David came over and helped our three young daughters learn how to use chop sticks:) more

Luxury at Half the Price 2/20/2010

I have been coming to this restaurant for almost 15 years now. This is where I realized that Bloody Marys go hand in hand with Chinese food... And where David and his lovely wife and son, Henry will make you feel like your the only ones there. David and his wife used to sit down and spoon feed my son when he was little! Now that my son is turning 16, his choice for dinner with his friends and family remains the same: David's... It is always packed in here at night, so be prepared, they do take reservations. It should be noted that I have introduced my parents to the authentic taste and service here and they now regularly throw parties for their picky old friends here (haha). I have brought many a picky palate (mine included) to David's and even the most hardcore Asians (incl. my boyfriend) are fans... Get the potstickers or don't even bother. Pros: Service, Food, Professional staff Cons: That no one else compares... more

So Delicious 8/31/2008

David's Kitchen is to me by far the best Chinese food in Salt Lake City, and there pot-stickers are so delicious. The service is always great from the wait staff and you get your freshly cooked food made to order. I would highly recommend it, as the best in town. Pros: Delicious Cons: I can't find one more

No gloppy sauce, just great food 4/8/2008

Most Chinese food tastes like it's been sitting in a steam pan for a few hours. That's not the case at David's! All of the dishes are prepared fresh and actually cooked with the sauce - not just covered with it at the end. The previous location certainly added a bit of ""edge"" to the dining experience, but their new stand-alone building is great. There's lots of parking and seating. David himself is almost always there with suggestions and input and the staff always seems to be running and working hard. On the rare occasion they've forgotten something in our order, they are always quick to make it right. Pros: Really great food! Cons: Not for the linen table cloth crowd more

David's is Divine.... 6/6/2007

I've eaten Chinese food while living in San Francisco, New York, and many other places on trips and I can say without reserve David's Kitchen is the BEST Chinese food I've ever eaten. I saw a review that David over charged and to be honest I have a hard time believing that, I've been there no less than 30 times and not once have I ever had a problem. I recommend the potstickers, black pepper beef, walnut shrimp, and basically anything else on the menu but those are my favorites. Pros: Food, Food, Food Cons: Not the best atmosphere but the new location should be better. more

Caution! 4/26/2007

Although David's kitchen serves excellent food, be cautious when ordering in a large group where each guest serves themselves from small platters (family style). David has overcharged our company on several occasions as much as $20 per person for a lunch that would have cost $8 if each person ordered off the menu. Note that each guest only drank water during their lunch. Pros: Good food Cons: The owner David over charges more

If you like potstickers this is your place 2/14/2007

I have been to David's probably 10 times and each time in between my visits I forget how good the food really is! The potstickers are a MUST have. They mix your sauce at your table how ever you like it (medium for me) , the walnut shrimp sweet sauce, candied walnuts and it has a really nice texture, Salt and pepper beef is tender and not too salty and always the genrals chicken sweet and tangy sauce. It's like sweet and sour chicken's gourmet sibling. The soups are also good. I've only had the egg flower and the dumpling they were both really good but I have friends that swear by the hot and sour. The service was good ( my water glass never got less than 1/2 empty) , our food came out quickly and the prices are resonable (especially for the quality. The potstickers are handmade and the shimp are big). Overall great food and good service! Pros: best potstickers ever, low cost for a great meal! more

So disappointed!!! 1/12/2007

I was completing disappointed in the food and service and smell of David's kitchen. My wonderful boyfriend loves the place, swears by it in fact. So I decided to give it a try. The potstickers yes were very delightful indeed but that was about it. Just walking in the place almost ruined my meal. It had a musty smell of stale cigarettes. Right off the bat I thought interesting way to impress a new customer. Don't order a soda or anything other than water because it is served from the bar in the next room and taste like it comes from a bar tap. Not only are the drinks over priced, but you don't even get a refill and than you have to tip for a soda. So plan on spending $3.00 for a nasty Diet Coke. I took two sips and could not drink any more. My boyfriend who loves the place took a sip and also could not stand the taste! I found my food tastless, flavorless and totally dull! Lacked in texture and the fried rice was nasty! The fried rice was the most disappointing item of all! I mean how can you screw that up! It was under cooked, and had one nasty flavor to it! To say the least I was not impressed with the place. I will never go there again unless dragged by my boyfriend who strangely thinks it's the best Chinesse he has ever had. more

best chinese BY FAR in salt lake city 10/5/2006

i was told over and over that david's had the best chinese in the state, but never took it seriously until i actually went. their potstickers are to die for. really. i love the walnut shrimp and salt and pepper beef. Pros: food Cons: - more

Let David be Your Guide 6/4/2006

Ordering with David can be different from what you experience elsewhere. He'll steer you through the menu to the things they do best to ensure you have a good meal. He's put together things for us not on the menu just for asking to try something different. That's service and skill. Entrance is hidden, but actually helps set the mood as it shelters the restaurant from the noise of the area. They're also good with kids. Pros: So so good more

Best Potstickers Ever!! 3/18/2006

These dishes are the best I've had in any chinese food restaurant, from San Diego to British Columbia: Walnut Shrimp, Seafood Delight, General Chu's Chicken, Sesame Beef, Hot and Sour Soup and of course Pot Stickers. The only down side is the drink service that comes out of the adjoining bar, rude hateful waitresses serving over-priced, marginal drinks when they deign to serve you. Pros: Seafood, Appetizers, Anything Spicy Cons: Drinks, Drink Waitresses, Smoke from bar more

This is it 3/3/2006

I've tried dozens of chinese restaurants around the valley over the years. Nothing compares to David's. I'm a regular--I always come back. The General Chu's is a spicy and not breaded. The sauce is killer. And without question, the best pot stickers I've found. I love the House Fried Rice w/ham, chicken, and shrimp. The sweet and tangy Walnut Shrimp puts other restaurants' versions to shame. Great kung pao, too. The biggest (only?) con is the drink service is through the adjoining bar--and they suck. Expensive and 1 refill limit. Pros: Great Chinese, Big menu, Pot stickers! Cons: Militant drink prtner more

Great food/Great service 4/6/2004

I became one of the many regulars after my friends brought me to David's. The potstickers are wonderful. If you like spicy try the General Chu chicken and get the walnut shrimp to get your mouth down to a cool temperature. Pros: never a long wait, quick service more

A Real Gem 1/23/2004

I've eaten Peking Duck in Bejieng China, I've eaten in Chinese food in San Franciso, Seattle and Washington DC and yet my favorite Chinese food is served by David's Kitchen. The food is excellent and the service has always been outstanding. Water glasses are re-filled and used dishes wisked away without asking in an unobtrusive manner, so that you can concentrate on dining and friends. If you are unsure of what to eat, recommendations are offered. Of course the potstickers are outstanding, the best I have ever eaten. I have been dining at David's for a long time, and no matter how busy it is, I get the same friendly service and great food I always have recieved. I recommend David's as a place to eat to anryone who likes great food with great service. Pros: Potstickers, Service, Food more
