Worst service I have experienced anywhere 1/16/2009

The food was good, but the service was horrible. Four of us sat at our table for 15 minutes before receiving water. the waitress opened our wine (brought from home) and then set the bottle on the table without pouring any wine or asking us if we wanted the wine poured. Every other restaurant pours your wine after opening, and then proceeds to refill your glass throughout the night. We ended up being in the restaurant for 3 hours for a four course meal (appetizer, salad, entree, dessert). During that time, we did not get a refill on water despite asking 5 times. When we asked at the time our salads were being served, a member in our party has their empty glass laying sideways on the table which should have given the busser and waitress another clue. We also asked for more brad numerous times, but only received an additional piece of bread once- right when we got our entree. I thought the food was good, though a diner in our party said that anything would have been good after we had to wait so long to receive our entree's.\r \r This special night out was definitely a disaster due to the lack of service by the entire waitstaff of Chanterelle. We had to alter our post-dinner plans because we were there for such a long time.\r \r I worked in multiple restaurants through college and grad school, and would have been fired in an instant for providing this type of service.\r \r There are a lot of other restaurants in Sacramento with comparable food at comparable prices that provide amazing service and actually refill your water. Based on our experience, I would not recommend anyone dining at Chanterelle. Cons: Service more

Not fine dining 5/6/2007

I specifically joined citysearch because chanterelle is not fine dining that I expected. First of all, the server took fifteen minutes to take our drink orders. Second of all, the atmosphere is not nice. Third of all, the cocktails were $9.50. I was confused at the cocktail price as this is not LA or NY. I would never recomment this place. The food was good but not worth what we paid. more

One little step above Sizzler 2/2/2007

Borderline gross. Is not fine dining. The server we had was very nice but the food was fried, salty and overcooked. The description of the dishes did not indicate that the food was fried but it was. Not worth the money and barely better than going to a chain restaurant in regards to the food. The atmosphere and the service is good but not good enough to cover the fact that the food is almost inedible. Pros: Service, Atmosphere Cons: FOOD. more

Avoid for special occasions 6/9/2006

I chose Chanterelle for Mother's Day. What a mistake. We were 10 mins early for our reservation. The line was already long to check in. We were then seated 25 mins after our reserved time. No one acknowledged the late seating. The place was packed. We had to pick a route to our table as to not ask people to move in their chairs. We were greeted quickly and asked what drinks we would like. After that, we did not see that waiter until we were finished with dessert. We should have asked for the bottle of champagne, because refills were not prompt. The buffet food was very tasty, but they were out of some items. There was a wait for the ""best"" items...the seafood. Also, desserts that were there early on, were then not available whe we were ready for dessert...perhaps had we been seated on time! I should add that we were not the last reservation of the day, so I don't know what the next seating did for food. When we were finished eating, and the next seating was breathing down our necks, then the waiter was always there. Bottom line, for almost $200 for four people, this was not worth it. There are several others brunches in town for much less, that are much higher quality and with much better service. Chanterelle obviously overbooked for this special occasion, but still could have made our brunch enjoyable. Pros: tasty food Cons: bad service, crowded, out of food more

Average to slightly recommended 3/14/2006

1st time there with my girlfriend since I moved to Sacramento 1 1/2 years ago, there are good & bad there.... On a bad side, it smells! It smells like you are in a hospital!!! You could easily smell that it is clear but on the other hand, it's kinda too clear & smell like I'm in a hospital or in a clinic. Plus, bad taste matching... a filet mignon with a blue cheese dressing, it really cover up the whole taste of the filet mignon. Stick to the basic! On a good side, service is prompt, fantastic service, & plus, their dessert is nice too, try their chocolate tart, it's great! Pros: service, dessert, privacy Cons: smell like hospital more

Best Brunch Ever 8/1/2005

This was easily the best fixed menu brunch I've ever had. All selections are $16 and free pour champagne is just $5.50 more. All meals start with a striking chilled strawberry soup and fresh pastries, which alone could carry the breakfast. The atmosphere is private and elegant, and the service attentive and understated. Don't let a weekend in Sacramento go by without this experience. Pros: Strawberry soup, parking, value more

Lacking in Service 8/30/2002

What happened? The staff treated me as though I was an univited guest and I have to pay for this??? As I frequent many area restaurants I will never return to Chanterelle. One bad apple can and did spoil the bunch!!! more
