Editorial review from Citysearch 3/9/2016

I spent over a week at Brookwood in December 2015. It was a HORRIBLE experience. On one hand, the rehab staff were top rate. On the other hand Brookwood was a hideous place. The staff were extremely short handed, food was worse than a dog should be forced to eat. In my wing everyone got food poisoning due to terrible food. Staff tried to tell us we had the flu. I spent a whole night vomiting after a meal there. The next day a staff member made a cursory wipe of the general area floor but the smell was there until I left. They put me in a child sized bed when I arrived. I'm not a tall man but I had to let my feet dangle off to the side of the bed because I couldn't fit onto the miniature bed provided. Extremely slow response from staff when needed. This place should lose its license. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 1/28/2015

Brookwood rehab is very good, nursing care and especially wound care needs experience and less patients for this place. Place looks good on outside not clean on inside. Very disappointed in nurses and lower level staff who are demotivated to help patients period. Sent to this place by Jewish ended up returning to Jewish because my wound care was horrible and i had to beg to get an ambulance called when i finally got to hospital i was going septic with ruptured abdominal wall and a ruptured stoma,,,so much for nurses there. Ridiculous and now the food is horrible, broken dishwasher that never got repaired during my 6 wks there. Awful scary place. more

beautiful facility ....the care not so great. 7/19/2011

I was a resident here after being referrred by b north rehab for addditional therapy. It is a beautiful facility but don't let loooks decieve you. they've dresssed .up the typical nursing home settting to cover up for the horrrible care and to get get moreresidents to commmit to staying.mostof the nurse aides are rude and think very litttle of patient dignityand personal car.e. the nursing stafff can be rude and are overworked and stresssed trying to complete their med passes. the therapy dept. is seriously lacking mature kknowledgeable staff.. the food is horrible, not fit to feeed to a dog. broookwoood boasts about its numerous activities. but unlesss you reallly like bingo or going to krogers the activities aren't that great or numerous. would not recomend broookwoood to eanyone, more

shut that place down terrible 5/17/2011

Let me start by saying this place is terrible I know first hand because I was once employeed there. For all you think its a great place you must a been there a lot because they train you to treat residents good expecially when family is there.this place is awful and as far as care if you love your family member do not take them there expecially for long term because shehe will not get showered or changed they will ignore their call lights. Its rare unless they know family is coming to get proper care. They hire anybody they don't care how they present themselves and they are crude I hated being employeed there and I would never put myself or family there it is hell and I hated it worst place ever the DON sucks she can't run the facility and don't look to get a hold of human resoures no call back. This place should be shut down awful awful awful place! ,urses and nurses aides only there for money except a few. more

A Caring Professional Community 1/12/2011

My mother spent the last 9 years of her life at the Brookwood Retirement Community; beginning in Independent living moving through all stages of the center as her abilities aged. She was always treated with dignity and encouraged to participate in the many varied activities available within the facility. I feel that she was cared for by a staff that not only looked after her physical needs, but her emotional and mental needs as well. She felt blessed to feel safe and we both appreciated the many people she came in contact with daily from the housekeepers to the nurses - all were very helpful and understanding of her needs - and mine! more

People Who Care 11/19/2010

Brookwood Retirement is a beautiful facility. You need it they have it all from tennis to swimming indoor and out. But, its the people that make the difference. They have people who care. Like, Dee, James and David to just name a few. These men and women truly have a gift to take care of our elderly. I have confidence when I leave and go home that my mother is cared for. I know she is in good hands. I am no longer the care giver; but, now have more time to be "the daughter". You will never know what a gift Brookwood has given me. Peace of mine! more

Great experience and excellent rehab 5/1/2009

I had a knee replacement and went to Brookwood for rehab before returning to home. I found that the staff was very friendly and caring. The therapy staff was excellent and really pushed me to do what I needed to do to get better. I would highly recommend Brookwood to anyone. Pros: Very positive environment for wellness more

Highly Recommend! 4/22/2009

I can't understand the other review! My 56 year old son came from a different facility wheelchair bound, not eating and listless. Within a few weeks, Ron was walking again; smiles, laughs and enjoys his surroundings. Being a SENIOR myself, I know the importance of a caring, dedicated staff in time of need. I would not hesitate to recommend this facility to anyone! more

Left Brookwood In Less Than 24 Hours 3/8/2009

After having this place recommended by Jewish Hospital, we left my mother-in-law there at 8 P.M. and returned the next afternoon to visit. What we found was horrifying! She was left in a day room by herself, unable to communicate with anyone, and had been left there for at least several hours. Upon looking into the room in plain sight from the main hallway, her blouse was unbuttoned, her bra exposed and thrown-up all over herself. The smell was unbearable, because she had had a BM and sat there since lunch. We arrived at 4 P.M. They had not put on her stockings for a clot in her leg and had not given her any food through the prescribe feeding tube. Needless to say, we packed her belongings immediately! more

DO NOT GO TO BROOKWOOD 2/25/2009

i am informing you not to go to brookwood don't not work for them or send a family member there this place is horrible take it from me i was from the inside and i have seen things that you would think you would never see on how these employee's treat the patients please take my advice. more

Definitely room for improvement 10/29/2008

I would love to know exactly what individual rates these nursing homes. Although this facility is clean and looks great.....the care to it's patients is something to be desired. On more than one occasion we were told that our love one was not the only patient. At $4000 a month they all should be treated as if they were. We have had some good staff but its a shame that the negative responses we have received out weigh the postive. On numerous occasion we found little to no staff available and after talking with the social worker regarding our concerns we found that there was little change in how they ran their floors. My hope for those who are in need of services think long and hard and do your research before choosing a nursing home. Show up unexpected and ask questions and don't rely on what is written because as with a lot of nursing homes it's not always what it appears to be. Pros: Few aides went over and above to make us feel welcomed Cons: Poor management, lack of nurses & CNA, and food very poor more
