Review content:
At 1st we had no idea about this place. Yes, there?s BAM, but their ticket prices what you expect to pay in Manhattan. Brooklyn Center is much more a neighborhood place, but with parking!! \r \r The thing we love is the wide variety of entertainment - they have great kids stuff and family oriented shows & they keep prices down?much appreciated. Plus there are tons of shows that are free or $5 to $10; believe me, we of the strapped budget can find much to be thankful for here. \r \r Thing to watch?the theatres are located on the college campus & are used by the students, so some shows are put on by students for thesis; the level of performance can vary & although you might find a chevy-level show instead of a Posche on occasion, even the Chevy-level is worth it. Besides, it's nice to see aspiring youngsters plying their craft. The college performances are always marked on the website so just watch for that, not to avoid them, just be aware. Conversely, the professional shows are every bit as top draw as anything or Broadway or the Met, just cheaper. And talk about wonderful free film-when they turn the large theatre into a cinema, they show some fabulous film programs.\r \r There?s the whole physical place which is really magnificent. The big theatre is quite majestic. It has a beautiful art deco look that is warm & inviting, but the sidewalks are still in bad shape. The smaller George theatre is in need of a bad face-lift. \r \r The place also has going for it is its exterior....you can stroll around the beautiful grounds-there's a promenade in front with trees & benches & flowers planted everywhere; we discovered a beautiful pond & waterfall nestled in an alcove where you can relax before a show. The kids went crazy when they spotted goldfish & frogs in it -- you sure know you are not in Manhattan.\r \r Highly recommended if you are an average family on a budget or a poor student even a lottery winner-their's something for everyone; variety is the center's strong suit. Pros: Great variety, fair prices (lots of events free) easy public access. Cons: Not as well publicized. Be on their mailing list or you'll need to look hard for them.
