Good Food - Even for a 'carnivore' 8/29/2010

It was a while a go that I went (to be fair - I was kind of dragged by a vegan friend), but I remember being very surprised. They had a Portabello 'burger' on the menu that was very tasty. My other meat-eating friend who accompanied us also thoroughly enjoyed their meal. I've been meaning to go back for another shot at that mushroom burger. The cafe has kind of an artsy-bohemian kind of feel to it, if you go for that sort of thing. The service was certainly good enough for me - I'm not sure what some others were complaining about. What the employees DON'T have is that fake Disney/Starbucks mindwashed sparkling smile when they talk to you - it's a more relaxed down-to Earth setting. more

Awesome Food! 6/30/2010

I was taken to Zephyr by a vegan friend of mine. I rolled my eyes & wanted a burger but went anyway. I was totally blown away. The service was friendly and had a calm atmosphere. I satisfied my craving for a burger by ordering the Portobello mushroom burger. It was dripping tasty juice from the burger. I can say that the blue corn chips are mediocre as is the salsa. But then again, this is Long Beach and I guess the white folks around here can't take real salsa. Otherwise, I recently tried their Mediterranean lentil soup, which was very delicious and my own picky mother agreed. Pros: Fresh ingredients, friendly service, calm atmosphere Cons: No dinner hours, chips & salsa are ordinary more

super inconsistent 1/19/2010

As a long beach local and a Vegan i really really wanted to support this place when it opened. unfortunately their mediocre food, terrible service, and inconsistent quality has made it impossible. i thought at first that they were just opening and needed some time to figure stuff out. IT'S BEEN LIKE 3 YEARS GET IT TOGETHER! more

STAY FAR, FAR WAY FROM THIS PLACE 12/11/2009

This place is a joke. It is unfortunate that this is the only vegan restaurant in Long Beach. Please, please, please vegan restauranteurs out there. Save us from this misery and open up a vegan restaurant in Long Beach. The workers are spaced out, barely acknowledge customers, don't clear the tables, rude, terrible service, food is slow to come out, very inconsistent quality. Overall, it sucks!!!! Pros: Decent food Cons: Horrible Service, Inconsistent Quality more

Wrong turn turned out right 9/11/2009

I really liked this place. I had looked on yelp for an inexpensive lunch place within walking distance from my hotel while I was in Long Beach, made a wrong turn, and ended up thinking I'd settle for Zephyr without knowing anything about it. It was great!\r \r I was the only person there a bit before noon on a Wednesday. While I'm not a super huge fan of ordering at a counter, my grilled tofu sandwich minus the mayo with blue corn chips and salsa was yummy. I also got a prepackaged cookie for the plane trip back to Colorado which was tasty.\r \r I didn't really feel the service was slow even though I was told they needed to grill the tofu once I ordered the meal. The three employees there were quick and friendly without being overbearing, and they keep the place really neat. I also appreciated the choice in music. I'd go back! Pros: good food Cons: cloudy windows more

new hours are terrible 7/14/2008

no more dinner with zephyr. open only 11am - 4pm great lunch for those who work locally... no dinner for those who dont. real bummer... i may not get a chance to eat here anymore... food is excellent, hours are a let down. Pros: awesome food Cons: service is slow, hours are bad more

Great food, bad and lazy customer service. 3/29/2008

I had my first visit to Zephyr yesterday and I loved the inside of the cafe, it was clean and spacious. The menu had a nice variety of selections. I was there with a friend and we were not greeted, we seated ourselves, and being our first time there we had no idea that we needed to order at the counter. We ended up sitting at our table for several minutes before we figured out what we needed to do in order to place our order. \r \r The lady who took the order was nice and competent and gave great advice and the cook seemed to be creative but once the food made it to the table there were problems with my order. 1. An ingredient I added to my dish on the recommendation from the lady who took the order was left out (they did bring it out in a separate dish later but I really wanted to experience the way I ordered it), 2. I had ordered a side item that is traditionally comes before the main meal and it arrived at the very late after, 3. I also had to ask for my ice tea after all the food had arrived.\r \r Overall I have to say the food was very good and had it not been for that I would have probably given a much worst review than this. I think the ladies working there need to up the level of awareness and professionalism and also treat people equally as my friend and I felt neglected compared to treatment and attention being given to some of the other customers dining there at the same time. One other thing to the cook, you have a great smile so don't be afraid to share it with all of your customers not just a select few.\r \r I don't know if I will be back but based on the food alone I will recommend Zephyr to my vegetarian friends with a word of caution. Hopefully things improve and their experience will be better than mine.\r \r Much love and hope for you guys.\r \r Pros: Menu Cons: Service more

Love it!! 1/29/2008

I love this restaurant!! We ordered the raw vegan pesto, which was totally amazing. So tasty!! And the raw vegan spring rolls, which were delicious. Really inexpensive with very generous portions. I can't wait to go back! more

amazing vegetarian food 11/13/2006

i've been a vegetarian for going on 11 years. i started back before there were veggie dogs available in every grocery store. it's been a long time. zephyr, whereas hard to spell, it's easy to find something good to eat there. i've eaten there with meat eaters and raw vegans, everyone is happy in the end. they do have an extensive raw selection, at least compared to non-raw restaurants. it's cozy and has art by different artist hung all over the walls. it's very much an alternative dining experience. most of the food is very good, however, i would stay away from the 'pasta' with pesto. i don't rememeber what they call it, but it's raw and not good. it's not as creative as raw foods in costa mesa, but it holds it's own. more
