Not quite sure what the whole scene is about, but if local yuppies overlook the bizarre atmosphere to get their weekly brunch, you know the food must be good! Hands down, the best breakfast restaurant in the city. Just be prepared for slow service -BUT IT is worth the wait. more

Great weekend brunch spot!! 7/21/2008

I really enjoyed this place. The food was delicious - my plate was completely licked clean after a few short bites. I recommend the eggless wonder but my friend had an omelette which he said was amazing too. Friendly staff and great, sunny ambiance located in a cute neighborhood, to boot. You won't be disappointed! Pros: great breakfasts Cons: portions are so big that if you are on a diet you might cheat more

Delicious food, great service-wonderful breakfast 4/23/2008

I have heard about Victory's Banner for too long from too many people, so I finally made my way over to Roscoe Village to give it a try. Well, it was just excellent in every way. I always include a sample of simple scrambled eggs as a ""test standard."" When do you remember ever saying ""God, these eggs are delicious!""? The waiter explained that VIctory's Banner uses free~range eggs and cook in clarified butter. Everything is cooked fresh. The folks I was with also sampled the pesto-goat cheese omelet, satisfaction-promise (which delivers on its name), and we all shared an order of the ""Award Winning"" French Toast. My declaration BEST FRENCH TOAST IN THE CITY. Coffee is rich, chai is the real thing (not a steamed tea bag). Service was great and friendly. I left happy. It has become my favorite breakfast house. Pros: Food, service, value Cons: sometimes the wait to get in on the weekends can be daunting, but its worth it. more

Received no service 11/17/2007

Great breakfast food especially for vegetarians. I've eaten here before and had a good experience except the last time I went, I was ignored by the wait staff for 10-15 minutes while other customers coming in after me were greeted and got seated immediately. I did not feel welcomed at all. I spoke with the owner/manager regarding this treatment and when she asked who was suppose to seat customers, no one knew. I left without ever receiving any service. That will be my last visit. Pros: food Cons: service more

A Perfect Way to Start Your Morning 10/26/2007

I?ve been here a few times and it has always been a great experience. The service is excellent and the food even better. I usually order French toast topped with fresh (yes, fresh) berries and scrambled egg whites with a variety of add-in?s. They don?t skimp on the berries, so my husband usually ends up finishing off my eggs. It?s a much better experience than many other popular breakfast restaurants which tend to create a hectic vibe from the initial wait and seating, all the way to the check comes. This place allows you to relax and enjoy your food. This means prompt, friendly service with a relaxed attitude. Pros: Excellent food and service more

Excellent Eats 6/30/2007

Victory's Banner is awesome. If you're going on the weekend, make like the staff and zen out as soon as you walk thru the door because there will be a wait (10-40 mins). Put your name on the list and walk to Starbucks to get a paper or check out the thrift store or trendy shops across the street. Once you get a table, you're in for a treat. Sure to please are the raspberry french toast, omlettes, the Satisfaction Promise or Erin's Eggless Wonder. All the eggs they use are free-range (Phil's Farm Fresh). For lunch you can't beat the bacon cheeseburger. Vegan? Just tell them and they'll make your dish to order. The tofu scramble is a fantastic vegan dish. They recently added a few new wraps to the menu and I hope they keep them on there ~ the avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato wrap is outstanding.\r \r In the summer you can bring your dog and eat at the tables outside. The only frustrating thing about this restaurant is that the staff takes retreats a couple times a year, so if you're a regular it can be frustrating when you go all the way over there and find the place closed. But that's what you get for not calling ahead I guess. Pros: the bacon cheeseburger Cons: the wait on weekends more

One of the best egg breakfast we've ever had! 11/12/2005

The Chai was probably the best I've had in Chicago. If you're a tea lover, definitely have the chai! We had the caramelized onion omelette, curry omelette and choc chip pancakes. Caramlized omellete was absolutely delicious, the curry omelette was good but the sauce was sweet. Pancakes were ok. The waitstaff was very simple and down-to-earth, no attitude here. The owner Pradhan was friendly as well. The ambience was laid back, warm and friendly. The prices were reasonable, in line with other breakfast/pancake places. We will definitely be going back soon! Pros: Tasty food, Good service Cons: Small place more

At the pinnacle... 9/3/2004

Were in awe of VB... Everything we tried was absolutely wonderful, hot and fresh tasting. Our omelet was bursting with flavor, packed with goat cheese, FRESH spinach and peppers. The special rasberry and mascarpone french toast was delightful too. It came hot, was perfectly textured, not too sweet or tart. A perfect breakfast isn't complete without a few strong yet smooth cups of coffee. VC delivers, as with everything else. Big cups of strong, flavorful joe, the ideal morning cure! The decor is light and airy, soothing even. Flowing shapes, soft atmospheric lighting, and soft colors definitely make for a relaxing morning repast. Equally impressive? The service - unfailingly positive, prompt and polite. Oh, I almost forgot, the prices are outstanding. I would have paid more, and still thought it was a bargain. Overall, we can't recommend VB enough. It stands alongside Tre Kronor as our favorite breakfast spot. Pros: Excellent food, Superb, strong coffee, Everything else more

Great Breakfast 6/16/2004

My family and I really enjoyed the food! My Brother and my daughter had the pancakes which were fantastic (they let me have one small taste). I had the french toast and that butter was great, the french toast was very filling. I really liked the food and it was nice to know that the food was healthy! I have one small complaints and that is the COFFEE and the service. The coffee was way too strong, just awful! Our experience was Great, The Food is Fantastic and we will definitely will be back! Pros: Food, Healthy, Very Clean looking Cons: , COFFEE more

Victory!! 4/9/2003

Yay! I found the perfect breakfast spot! It took me forever to finally go to Victory's Banner. I must admit I was always a little weirded out thinking that they were serving religion, not just breakfast. However, I was wrong. This place is wonderful, especially for ovo-lacto vegetarians. Now that I've discovered it, I'm there at least once every 2 weeks. They use fresh, natural ingredients, the service is great, the place is spotless. The raspberry french toast is wonderful but way too much food for one. If they have the vegan chocolate muffins - try one! They're fantastic. The scrambles and pancackes are great too. Heck! Stop reading and try this place. I can't wait to try lunch, but breakfast is so yummy I can't pass it up. Pros: great food, great service, good value more

Great Vibe, great food 10/15/2002

The Frittata omelette's vegetables are fresh and well blended with the egg. The eggs were light and not greasy at all. The raspberry cream cheese was yummy. The service was very good and alert, not to mention well-dressed. Pros: Food, service, coffee and tea more

Weird Vibe. 10/11/2002

I won't eat here anymore, because I'm not keen on supporting a religion. However, I will say that the food is wonderful. The weird, culty vibe among the saronged staff/followers of the Sri Chimoy is disconcerting in the highest, though. more

Simply Divine 7/26/2002

Nestled in among the other shops and restaurants of Roscoe Village, this bustling veggie joint is a definite jewel for those willing to seek it out. Favorite on the menu is their French Toast - served complete with peach butter. One could almost live on the butter alone! The granola-and-berry-ringed pancakes are good, as well, though they tend to be a bit doughy sometimes. Order up a side of the veggie sausage - very well done, with very little hint that you're not eating the real thing. Relaxing music (they offer meditation classes) and a bright, almost Scandinavian color scheme help make this a great place to grab a Sunday brunch. Service is excellent, warm and friendly. Pros: Vegetarian, Skillful Preparation, Excellent Service Cons: Crowded on Weekends, Music Sometimes Loops more
