needs an uplift but still very pretty 8/7/2010

On Aug 6th took my wife for her birthday. Small crowd for Friday night. Two waiters. One good. One clueless. Ordered a french Chablis and after a VERY long time the guy came back and said they did have my wine but they suggested the bottlle in his hand as an alternative. Which was Jacobs Creek Cabarnet Saviagon. Not exactly equivalent. Crab cakes for starter and they were actually good. I had a pecan crusted snapper and my wife a filet and both were actually quite good. So the food still holds up. The wine prices are reasonable and the view is still glorious. I hope the place survives. It needs ""freshing up"" and I suspect it is now surviving on wedding receptions and events rather than just the casual dinners. I wouldn't write it off - but - i would love to see them spend some money on it - and then advertise it. I remember years ago when this was one of THE places to go in Houston. Sort of sad to have 6 tables of dinners on a Friday night - in a huge place. Even sadder because - it really still good enough to justify a bigger crowd even without the uplift. more

Good brunch buffet, but bad entree 7/18/2010

We went on Sunday for the brunch. Their appetizer/salad buffet is pretty decent along with big omelet. Their asparagus soup is really creamy and yummy. However, there were 10 of us and 8 of us ordered prime rib and the other 2 ordered the seafood crepe for the brunch entree. Their prime rib is really bad. I think the quality of the meat is very low. Their seafood crepe is not that good either. It is very fishy. Overall, I think $29.95 is too expensive for the low quality prime rib. would not go back at all. Pros: Good buffet Cons: Entree for Sunday brunch is bad more

Terrible Terrible Terrible 4/19/2010

First I wanted to give no Stars, but I had to give at least 1, so that's why I rated this high! Pros: Nice Grounds - Just don't eat there Cons: Where do I begin? more

Terrible Terrible Terrible 4/18/2010

First I wanted to give no Stars, but I had to give at least 1, so that's why I rated this high! I took my fiancee there to celebrate our engagement and we would have been happier going to Denny's. I made a reservation for 2:30 on Sunday afternoon -- We arrived at 2:15 and was told it would probably be 2:30 before we were seated. At 2:45 I asked our status -- the liar woman told me just a few more minutes, they were setting up our table now. At 2:55 I asked again -- was lied to again -- I know there was a little problem but it's fixed now so it should be just another minute. At 3:00 I asked my lovely fiancee if she would at least like a drink while we waited -- she asked for a Bloddy Mary -- I went to the bar and asked for the drink -- the woman behind the bar had a discussion in some language with two others behind the bar and they decided they could make the drink. After they fooled around for a good 10 minutes they handed me the "drink" -- it consisted of a splash of vodka and tomato juice -- I had to ask for a straw - and no typical accents to the drink, celery.... anything... I attempted to pay for the drink using cash -- $8.00 drink, gave them a $10.00 Stood there for another 5 minutes waiting for the $2.00 change they couldn't find. I brought the drink to my fiancee who didn't complain but did notice the lackluster drink. I aksed again for the status -- 3:15 now -- was told they were setting our table up, by the windows and that's why we were delayed, and they were chlling the champaigne I had requested, but we were next to be seated. After they seated 2 other couples in front of us, I was to the point of explosion, but the wonderful woman I will marry calmed me down... so we stayed. Finally 3:25 we were taken to a table -- that wobbled badly, that was NOT near the windows, and no champagne was ready. The waiter was excellent -- he leveled the table, apologized for everything, brought the champagne, and took our order. The food came and we had both ordered NY Strip -- they brought roast beef for me and salmon for my fiancee. Even when they finally got the order right, the food was not worth the $110 price tag! The grounds are very nice, too bad the restaruant sucks! Pros: Nice Grounds - Just don't eat there Cons: Where do I begin? more
