New Management and Fun, Professional Staff! Love this Clinic! 8/3/2012

Love this hospital. This clinic has transformed thanks to new management as well as caring and professional veterinary staff. The doctors they have are friendly and down to earth. Prices are reasonable. Our exams are always 30-45 mins and we are never rushed. They work to train me how to prevent most pet issues like ear cleaning and nail trimming. Most places just take my dog and bring him back done. Here they help you learn so you can save money preventing common issues. They give you a free first exam and you can check them out without a penny. I have referred many coworkers and all had great things to say. I know each person has certain preferences as to what kind of expectations they have. They will continue to have our business and we are so thankful. more

SKETCHY!! 3/23/2011

Will never come back! My maltese gets skin infections about twice a year. Regular vet couldn't see him so i went to VCA West Seattle. They called ELLIOTT BAY ANIMAL HOSPITAL in advance to get all his history, and even with that, VCA: (1) Gave my puppy the wrong dose of meds even though i SPECIFICALLY asked for the same thing (because I know what works after 6 years going twice a year!) - probably just so that we'd come back and spend more money!! The vet kept saying ""make sure you come back if it doesn't clear up"" and no one ever says that cuz they know it'll work, well, this time it didn't clear up so when i went back to my regular vet they looked and said the dosage was not enough to clear it. SKETCHY!!!!! (2) They also gave my pup steriods, which he'd NEVER had before, claiming that it needed to be taken with the other meds. My normal vet said Beezy would only need this if the itching bothered him, which i SPECIFICALLY told VCA again that he doesn't scratch or itch like that. So they completely bamboozled me!!!! I can't believe they under and then over drugged my dog just get more $$$$ out of me. I will NEVER EVER GO BACK!!! They are sketchy! more

VCA West Seattle Veterinary Hospital RIPPED US OFF!!! 12/1/2009

Has anyone else had issues with VCA!! West Seattle? I feel as if they are more for the money than they are for the pet care. So do not go to VCA West Seattle if you love your Pet. I took my cat there for his second booster shot of the series and at the end was given a fee of $142 dollars for cleaning his ears?????? They ran tests without my consent and knowledge of what they were doing. This was very unprofessional, I felt as if they were Swooping in and charging me for stuff that I was unaware of while I was distracted tending to my Kitty. They also wanted to charge me $300 to have my cat nuetered, (thats without the fees) but I took him to Vets For Less and they provided very professional service, they were friendly and supportive, and it was only $50, so you do the math. VCA staff is not very attentive, it took them a week to mail us our labs that came in the next day. So my point is VCA Ripped us off please do your homework when it comes to picking a vet. Don't let them rip you off more

Can't 100% recommend it 8/19/2009

The vet who saw my cat was helpful and empathetic, knowledgeable, even emotionally tied to the outcome. This was someone I totally trusted, awesome with follow-up, etc. The vet who ultimately operated on my cat falls on the other end of the spectrum. Having dropped my cat off in the morning for surgery, I called 10 minutes before closing when I got home from work to see what was going on and he advised me that 1. He'd just finished, 2. They didn't have anyone there at night to monitor the animals, and 3. I needed to come get him right away before closing if I was interested in my cat having post-surgical watch. He even suggested I might take him home and watch him myself. Slightly shocked, I opted to pick him up right then and drive him to a 24 hour facility 15 minutes away for monitoring, where they immediately recognized his systems were failing and his body was attacking itself. After reading his charts, and speaking on the phone with the VCA surgical vet, the 2nd vet alluded that going forward with the surgery might have been poor judgment given his pre-surgical condition. He also seemed surprised by the medicine they had me giving my cat and then gave me a VERY poor prognosis and told me that what was happening to my cat was a painful process and loaded him up so he could sleep and be comfortable. We agreed to do a status check in the morning. Needless to say, at 5am I got the call everyone dreads. So, maybe he would not have made it without surgery, but if I didn't need to put him through that I trusted the vets to be honest with me. I hate that his last day was spent waiting at the vet in a cage. I am just thankful that I took him to the 24 hour vet where they could mute his pain that last night - if I had taken him home, it might have been one of the cruelest things I could have done. The West Seattle Vet gave me that option. Maybe this situation was unforseeable to West Seattle VCA, but it didn't take the 2nd vet long AT ALL to assess the situation. I will always wonder if the revenue from the surgery had any influence over the judgment to go forward with it despite the risks 2nd vet identified so quickly. I don't know. Overall, not a place I would ever go to again. more

VCA West Seattle, where money is the top priority. 5/26/2009

Owner of two aging cats. We have moved around the country and have always had good experiences in the past with AAHA accredited animal hospitals...until we went to VCA West Seattle Veterinary Hospital. I didn't have any single major negative experience, but a build up of many unfortunate interactions with staff left me feeling disgruntled enough to start taking our cats to another vet - despite the fact that this one is 2 blocks from our house. In a nutshell my issues were: 1) inconsiderate, rude, and incompetent office/reception staff. I often stood there for minutes before anyone acknowledged my presence. I once left my cats' medication on the counter and called when I got home to tell them I was coming back to pick it up. The receptionist told me there was no med on the counter. I drove over and there it was sitting right in front of their eyes!! 2) I felt that everyone was so focused on money. When I brought the cats in for their annual, I got a huge lecture about how I needed to s more

Excellent Vet ? Overpriced 3/9/2009

I changed my mind! They're okay but I've realized recently how much more informed and friendly all of the staff is over at the West Seattle Animal Hopstial and how much money I can save so I've moved on. Bye VCA and hello to WS Animal Hostiapl and money in my pocket. Pros: Dr. Waterhouse and the seperate pet entrances Cons: Too expensive, uninformed, rude staff more

Best Vet 2/5/2009

I've had vets provide medical care for dogs, cats, parrots, ferrets, etc., for over 40 years now and recognize this veterinary hospital as the most efficient and comprehensive operation I've ever seen. I love the separate entrances and waiting areas for cats and dogs. Dr. Plosky has a great bedside manner with pets and people and has been incredibly responsive to all my questions and concerns. The staff perform seamlessly as a well coordinated team and the facility is spotless. My only wish is that they'd expand the practice to include avian care so I could use them for the family parrots too. more

Very negligent 1/2/2009

This vet used to be good. Then they got huge. They now have staff that is flat out negligent. They failed to diagnose our dog with cancer, which contributed directly to his suffering and early death. Had the vet caught the OBVIOUS issue, we could have treated him before it was a problem. When we took our dog to another vet, they were absolutely shocked that the Dr. at the West Seattle Animal Hospital ignored a lesion in a dog's mouth. They said no doctor should ever do that. I will never take another animal to this clinic. EVER. more

made a false statement 12/13/2008

I have have taken my dog to this vet for all her shots and spent several hundred dollars here. I stood at the counter to check out my last and final time when the blond at the counter ignored me for several minutes while my dog was getting very restless. I asked her for help and she tod me to wait , she never once made eye contact with me. I put my money down and told her I thought she was rude and I would not be back. She then must have lied to her boss and put nothing but lies in my records. I have seen her with other patients while in the waitting area prior to my bad experience and she should not be in customer service............think twice before going to this over priced vet Pros: seprate entrance for dogs and cats Cons: very rude and very expensive more

time to change 7/6/2008

It feels very unorganized when you first walk in.They seemed a little rough with my old labrador. Was not to happy when I got him home. The next day he could barely walk. they push for expensive procedures. I am more comfortable seeing experienced doctors then kids.I am changing vets. more

AMAZING CARE 4/10/2007

My husband and I are owners of two dogs, Cooper (dasch.) and Thor (choc.lab). We moved to West Seattle about 8 mos. ago and have been with different vets prior to our experience with WSVH. To make a very long story short our Cooper had a very bad accident and we were not certain if he would survive. WSVH staff and Dr. Keast took personal interest in aiding Cooper in his recovery, and us in thorough and fair explanations from care to cost. As far as being expensive, we have found the rates to be very fair for the quality of care our family has received. THANK YOU WSVH for being so helpful and supportive.( I think I called 3-4 times a day and every call was taken and every question answered.) more

Very Good Dr./Place 10/29/2006

We've had taken our pets - dogs & cats - to WVH since it opened. We've seen a number of vets and found them all to be very good. Dr. Keast & Dr. Waterhous have been providing chemo therapy for our dog. I've found them to be technically excellent and as caring and considerate as I would want. Results were excelelnt initially - our guy was given about a month to live 6 mos ago. Was tumour free until a few weeks ago. Looks like agnother go-round. \r \r One poster says they are expensive. There may be cheaper places - this one certainly has a big facility to support - but I don't find the costs to be out of line. \r \r They are accepting and respectful of alternative treatments - which we find often work very well with animal - though very conventional themselves. Pros: Full serivce, highly competent, attentive to pet and owner Cons: Could be a bit hipper to alterantive appraoches and nutrician. (they are respectful) more

User review by lbanker 6/5/2006

I have been using this Vet hospital for about 6 years. Dr. Keast has treated my dogs for a number of problems and I also board here. The staff is very caring and vet treament high quality. The down side being that it's expensive. Pros: Caring staff, High standards Cons: Expensive more

A great neighborhood vet 3/6/2006

I have been taking my dogs, who are just puppies still, to this vet clinic for about six months now. Last month, one of my dogs had a weird spot on his nose. The vet spent nearly an hour with my dog examining the spot and taking samples of it. He also followed up with me promptly as soon as the test results were known. I would recommend this place to all West Seattlites with pets! more

Oops 12/8/2005

While Dr. Keast kept us informed during some surgery, it turned out that an assistant performed most of the procedure. Our cat hates going to the vet so, while he was asleep, we asked that he be checked for ear mites. In any case, he was sent home with ear mites anyway. In addition, the office staff failed to send us a reminder that our cats were due for vaccinations for about a year and a half. Just too many foul ups. We're going to get the ear mites taken care of elsewhere. Oh boy, double the cost and double the stress on our cat. more

total pet care 11/8/2005

this is a place that was recommended by my friend and i love how they pay attention to you here. they take very good care of the pets and i have been going here for a year now.they offer all pet services and they have clean and well maintained facilities.their charges are nominal for the service they provide. more

Solid vet for pet 7/27/2005

I got a coupon in the mail for a free pet exam for your dog or cat for these guys. So we took our cat in. They were very friendly, and throughoughly checked up on our cat. They were also very friendly with her. She is usually a little bad with strangers, but she was really calm with them. They have a spacious waiting room so you can keep your pet away from the unfriendly dog in the waiting room if there is one. PROS: Friendly, throurough CONS: Kinda smelly more
