Uncle Gio's hits a home run! 8/29/2007

This was my second outing to Uncle Gio's and boy was I impressed! This restaurant as made hug changes and it shows! The last time that I was there, the restaurant was still new and still learning and growing. Tonight, it was awesome! The service was excellent and so was the food! My husband and I were blown away by how great everything was! Now, don?t get me wrong, there is always a way to make yourself and your business better, but way to go Uncle Gio for stepping up to the plate and hitting one out of the park! I will definitely be back and have already called our friends to encourage them to try it to! I am going to go back on Saturday for some food and entertainment, hope to see you all there! CIAO! Pros: Service, Managers, Food and Fun! Cons: Parking :( more

Thumbs way up! 8/27/2007

Normally I am not one to sit in front of my computer and write a review on a place....but I have to after my visit to Uncle Gio's. My girl and I couldn?t figure out a place to eat, so we looked up Italian restaurants in Nashville and we found Uncle Gio's. We were debating the drive since we live in La Vergne, but thought hey, what the heck. We went on Saturday night and had an awesome experience. The food was great, the service was awesome and the Manager was way helpful. He checked on us numerous times and so did the servers! We love Italian food and we not disappointed by Uncle Gio's! We had the special of the day which was a medley of veggies in some marinara sauce over pasta and it was to die for! The manager said that the chef's create new specials every weekend and I can?t wait to try the next one! Two thumbs up...WAY UP for Uncle Gio's! Go....Eat.....Have fun! more

Best Nashville Italian Dining! 8/24/2007

What a great little place! My husband and I have lived in the Nashville area for about 4 years now and have searched all over for a restaurant like Uncle Gio?s. We went in on a Friday night, and the place was packed! We were immediately greeted by one of the hostesses and about 10 minutes later, we had a table and were ready to eat! Our waiter was really from Italy!!! He recommended some dishes to us, and we went with his choices. Usually, I only get chicken parm because I don?t like to experiment, but I did lol. My husband and I went with the Fruti Di Mare for two and boy was it good! The sauce was perfect and the seafood was awesome! We ended our evening with a piece of cheesecake that was better than my mothers! Uncle Gio?s brought Italy to Tennessee and thank God for that! The next time we go I hope I get to meet Uncle Gio and tell him how wonderful his establishment is! more

Too slow for my taste 8/17/2007

My husband and I visited Uncle Gio's on a Friday night and only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. However, we then had to wait about 40 minutes to get our food. And it wasn't that great. Our server said they have 5 cooks in the kitchen, and they make everything fresh. I say hire a few more cooks and prepare some things in advance...it would've tasted the same, in my opinion. Pros: Convenient location, nice interior Cons: Not a lot of waiting room, long wait on food more

A touch of Italy in your back yard 7/26/2007

Uncle Gio's in right where Brentwood, Antioch, Cane Ridge, Nashville and Nolesnville all come together. They offer a large menu, a friendly and helpful wait staff and some of the best food you will ever eat. The prices on the pasta dishes may seem a bit high, but you will take leftovers home! The pizza is hi t or miss. When they are busy, sometimes the pizza can get on the soupy side, but the flavor...oh the flavor! They are a small restaurant, so on a busy night you can expect to wait at least 40 minutes to be seated. The food takes a while, but everyhing is hand made when it was ordered..and oo la la it is perfection! Uncle Gio's will also shut their doors for private parties...which you can enjoy birthdays or weddings family style and if there is dancing....you better believe it that Uncle Gio and his family will be out there dancing with you too! Pros: The food is outstanding and the portions are huge! Cons: You will wait a long time to be seated on a busy night. more

I have never been to such a unprofessional place... The staff is horrible... The girls that set you are horrible they act like you are there to see how cute they are or what you think of there outfits!!! WRONG!!! Staff walking around in sunglasses is so odd and to get food is even worse... TAKE MY ADVISE AND NEVER GO!!!!! more

DON'T MISS UNCLE GIO'S ON A SATURDAY NIGHT!!! 7/2/2007

THE BEST ITALIAN FOOD IN TOWN! Pros: Saturday Night Entertainment, Best Alcohal, the best tasting italian food in town! Cons: No cons for us! more

DONT GO!!!!! STAY AWAY!!!! 6/28/2007

We took a good friend of ours there for their birthday and I wish we would not have... It was the WORST service ever. The table beside us had came and gone before we ever got our food... They even noticed how bad our service was and offered us some bread that was giving to them. Our waiter did not even offer us bread and we kept asking for our food, drinks, and checks!!! Uncle Gios would be disappointed if he knew how that place was being ran... The staff that walks around wearing there sunglasses because they think it is cool when it looks very trashy... more

Do Not Eat Here! 6/26/2007

This was by far the worst experience of my life. I have never seen a more unprofessional environment. The ""manager"" Reid pranced around the restaurant as if he was 10 years old. The servers had better things to do than serve us; they were all communing in front of the soda machine. If the manager had been doing his job, in a professional manner, his employees would have been working in his presence, rather than having him join them in childish games. The chef's looked as if they hadn?t showered in weeks and the hostess was more concerned with how she looked than how hungry we were. It was a half hour to get seated, and by the time we got service, it was an hour. The waiter proceeded to tell us how unorganized the restaurant was and began to laugh. How is this place still open? Pros: The bring business to the smaller places in it's shopping center Cons: Them being in business! more

perfect birthday party 6/4/2007

I had a suprise party for my husband's 30th birthday in Uncle Gio's reserved room & it was fabulous!! We had 20 people & Uncle Gio's took great care of us. It was dimly lit with candles & the bar was the perfect touch. The pizzas were great--sicilan is our favorite. The bartender was wonderful with the guest s& the server was the best. I would recommend Uncle Gio's for a small, intimate party anytime!!! Fantastic job!! more

Great food and Service 5/8/2007

I'm not one to write online reviews normally, but I felt compelled to write one due to a few reviews that I heard about on this website for this restaurant. In my opinion, they are completely unfair and inaccurate. It's easy for someone who obviously has something against either a restaurant, or someone who works there to create a faceless identity(ies) on here and bash a really good place. And I know people are way too smart to believe everything they read. But, there is probably a small percentage of people who actually base their decision on whether to try out a restaurant on the layman reviews that appear on websites. So, I just wanted to let anyone that might be reading this know that I have no more credentials as a food critic than anyone else who has posted on here. I am just an average Joe who has eaten at this restaurant and enjoyed my food. I'm not naive enough to think that I never will have a problem at a restaurant or won't get a bad server or slow service, these things happen anywhere. However, I feel that I am responsible enough to let a manager know when it happens, instead of writing anonymous reviews to try and deter business from a good place. I also know that Uncle Gio's will continue to get my business and I will continue to recommend them to my friends and family. more

Soggy Food and Soggy Service 5/2/2007

Normally, I wouldn?t intentionally subject myself to a repeat of the kind of experience I had at Uncle Gio?s but their proximity to my home and the absence of other decent restaurants in the area prompted my boyfriend and I to give them a second chance. The second time was just as bad, if not worse than the first. Both times, the service was horrible. The servers complained about each other to us, failed to refill our drinks, and left us waiting about 15 minutes after we finished eating to bring the check. Even still, I could overlook bad service for decent food but we had no such luck. On both occasions the crust on our pizza was beyond soggy. The ?roasted? peppers were mushy as well and it was clear there wasn?t a fresh ingredient to be found in the place. To say it was a disappointment would be an understatement. The food was just plain bad. Pros: makes you appreciate home cooking Cons: bad service, horrible food, waste of a great location more

Avoid this pizza joint! 4/6/2007

Living on the outskirts of Brentwood we were delighted to hear of a family-run pizza place. However, after several attempts with Uncle Gio's we will no longer even consider this place again. We ordered pizza from them 2 times for pick-up. Both times we were unsatisfied with the pizza (soggy, undercooked, and not ready when we got there). We gave them one last try tonight since we are desperate for good pizza out here on Concord road. Here's what happened: Pros: non Cons: everything (service, service, service, food, parking and price) more

Horrible Food! 3/28/2007

My husband and I have been living in Brentwood 6 months having moved from northern New Jersey. We have been missing ""real"" Italian food and were extremely excited when we saw Uncle Gio's. Please... everyone...don't make the mistake of letting the full parking lot fool you...the food is the worst and expense to boot. The quality of the ingredients is poor and no one in that kitchen is a chef....We also waited over 30 minutes to receive our horrible meal. Pros: nice outdoor patio if you can bring your own food. more

Uncle Gio's hits a home run! 3/22/2007

My wife and I ate at Uncle Gio's last Saturday night. I must tell you that I was a little hesitant though. I'm Italian from New York, and finding a good Italian restaurant in Tennessee is like looking for Yankees fans at the Grand Ole Opry. Pros: Great service, very friendly. Food is terrific. Great location. Cons: Gets very busy during the weekends. Would like to see a bar or liquor menu. more

Avoid all together 2/22/2007

My family & I went there on a Sunday evening. We were one of the first at the restaurant and waited over an hour for our food. I ordered the stromboli, which was still doughy and undercooked on the inside. The sauce provided to me for dipping my stromboli in was straight tomato sauce from a can. My husband ordered the veal parmsean and the veal was paper thin. To top it all off, the parmasean cheese on the table contained in a glass shaker was molded at the bottom, which really turned me off. After I brought it to the waitress's attention she instructed an employee to pull all of the shakers from the tables and check for mold. Our bill was over around $50.00 for all three of us. They even charged us for butter used on my child's pasta. I could have gotten a much better quality meal at Fazoli's and paid half the price. Warning - do not waste your time at this restaurant, you would be better off eating Chef Boy Ardee SpaghettiO's from a can. Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: Low quality food for the price more

Best Pizza and very good food all around 2/7/2007

We had a wonderful experience last night and we had 6 of us and we all loved the food. The key to this restaurant is to go early so you don't mind the wait . If you go late on a thurs, friday or saturday there will be a wait so I would not recommend you go at that time with children. We met Uncle Gio and his nephew and they were very nice and wanted to make sure we enjoyed everything. It was a wonderful experience, the food is cook when you order so don't be alarmed when you have to wait because it's really worth it. more

Expectations destroyed - not recommended 12/8/2006

After months of anticipation for a restaurant to come to this location, I found my expectations completely destroyed through the experience of eating at Uncle Gio?s. more

Quality, Quantity, and a slice of home everytime!!! 11/19/2006

I absolutely love this place! I'm greeted with a warm smile, hug and kiss on the cheek everytime I go in. The staff is friendly and personable. Everything is cooked to perfection and the guy who makes the pizza--does it just like the places I went to when I was a kid--brings back so many memories. Service is a bit slow but no different than say going to the Palm, The Trace, or other Fufu places out on West End or Down Town. Knowing what true ethnic food is supposed to taste like--I truly enjoy this place--it's not commercialized like Buco de Bepo or to ""poched-up"" like Valentino's. This is good old family style Italian food. The wine selection is a bit small but then again--if you went to a family member's house--would you really have a large list to choose from? Uncle Gio and crew took the guess work out of what wine goes best with the meal. You can't go wrong with any one of them with any one of the meals. No liquor license but hard liquor or margarita's wouldn't go with the taste of the food--it's a wine place. The wine they do have is incredible. A bit pricey but if you think about it--you'll always go home with leftovers...so not too bad. It's definately a mom and pop place and they are still new to the business (at a year and a half). I've only been there once where they ran out of items but that was at no fault of theirs--delivery didn't make it in. I feel like family every time I go in--and being from up north--this place is a slice of home--now only if they could do Chicago-style deep dish--I'll know I'll went to heaven--either that or I might ask the pizza guy to marry me! Pros: Service, quality of food, atmosphere, no reservations needed--unless on Fri or Sat from say 5-7pm Cons: There can be tables open and no parking. Also people come in and pick up and there's no place for them so they wait up front, giving the illusion that the place is packed. more
