Friendly Service and Great Selection 8/24/2008

I shop here often and have a good experience everytime. You are greeted as soon as you step foot into the store and the staff is very knowledgable and friendly. You never have to hunt someone down for help since they usually check up on you to see if you need any help. The return process is very easy, if you even need to return anything, (10 days for unused gear) and it's an all around fun experience. They have an awesome selection for women's clothing and it's all great quality. I highly recommend this place. Pros: Customer Service, Location, Quality, Atmosphere more

Bad Service 5/20/2008

The US Outdoor store can be summed up quite easily: Good selection of gear, average prices, bad employees. I recommend AVOIDING the joint. There are plenty of other good local companies with MUCH better service (Sublimity Snow and Skate and TruSnow/Portland Boarding Company and Exit Real World just to name a few). Pros: Availability of Goods Cons: Employees more

Great selection/prices - terrible service. 4/29/2008

My experiences at this store vary: if you want to buy a coat or long-johns, then this is good as far as selection and pricing. But if you are buying equipment, the sales staff is severely lacking. I feel as if these people don't care if they make a sale or not, just whatever gets them to their next smoke break. Don't buy your gear here, especially if you need any sort of follow up service, best go to REI or some other box store, you'll get at least the same service. Lame at best. Pros: Nice selection of clothes, the bargain attic is nice Cons: Service is lame, no follow up, they don't care more

Not worth your time or wallet. 4/17/2008

Over priced and rude. The staff is obviously not taken care of because they don't give a damn about a sale. I went in wanting to buy new skis, boots, bindings, and poles. It took them forever to get some one to talk to me because they were all talking to their friends over coffee at the counter. I was recommended the wrong ski for my level and then told they didn't have all that much, as he walked away. I understand it is the end of the season and gear is low, but I felt like a total inconvenience for even asking?! So I took my money else where and got ALL the stuff I wanted including Rossignol skis. All of my new equipment was $97.00 more than the skis alone at us outdoor. Pros: They have stuff to sell. Cons: Lame and rude staff, overprices. more

Good selection, horrible people, except for the owner. 4/3/2008

The selection usually is pretty good but you do pay for it. Its a pretty pricy place, but a lot of the time I can find things there I cant find anywhere else. The employees are a ridiculous excuse for a staff. Dont even go downstairs unless George is working, they seem to think that working for minimum wage with no benis makes them too cool. One day a piece of garbage at the counter wouldnt let me, a 15 year returning customer exchange a stupid beanie. I should've beat his back end because he treated me, an accomplished professional, like I was a bumb trying to make a buck. Their return policy sux and most all their staff has their heads up their backsides. My ball hair knows more about gear than these guys/gals.Leave your punk attitudes on the hill bra. Go hike the pipe. Pros: Selection, and the owner is really cool. Cons: Ten thumbs down for the staff more

Great Gear Shop 3/4/2008

I knew I was going to Portland and wanted to take advantage of some tax free shopping. I was looking for some skis and on a friend's recommendation I looked up the store to find the location when I was in town. This is my experience in response to those below. I found the selection to be top notch and the prices are great. I will never buy anything in a resort now, knowing that I can shop with these guys online. The guys in the ski department were able to help me narrow my choices on a new fat ski. They knew how all of them skied. It sounds like everyone in that department likes something different.. They were even willing to get my skis mounted for me that day because I was leaving the next morning to fly home. The staff helped my wife spend some money on a new jacket while I shopped for skis. All in all we never got any attitude, most of the staff just joked with us and wanted to make sure we were taken care of and were enjoying are time in Portland. It is a bummer that people have had a bad experience there, that was certainly not my experience. more

OK Selection, Higher Prices, Terrible Staff 2/9/2008

You should know: this review is not done by some grumpy elder or someone who is socially inept. I think some of those qualities could bias reviews, especially when it comes to the US Outdoor staff. I am a graduated college student who has lived in Portland for quite some time and know this place well. Pros: Selection Cons: Staff, Parking, Atmosphere, Return Policy more

great customer service!!! 1/24/2007

This place has EVERYTHING I need. Surfing, snowboard, ski, and camping equiptment and the sale floor is great!! Pros: friendly people and good hours Cons: parking on the weekends can be busy more

Cheap prices but Rude Sales People.... 1/23/2007

Last time I was there the people at the cash registers and in the snowboard shop were really snooty. If you don't like making minimum wage don't make my day worse? I don't even bother shopping there anymore. The people at OMC and EXIT are way more friendly. Pros: Cheap Prices on Close Out Gear Cons: Rude Sales People more

US Outdoor Store ...inept and rude sales associates...AVOID 1/6/2007

Buyer beware. I can't recommend this store AT ALL since there are so many others in Portland and on-line who do a much better job of customer satisfaction. They are inept and the employees are rude. Recently I took in my son's older snow board and asked them switch the bindings to his new board. Since I didn't buy any of the equipment form USOutdoor they told me they were charging $15, which was fine by me. I was asked to give them a week to transfer the bindings. In the mean time I called and asked if they could hold a pair of North Face Snowboard pants for my son that I would pick up at the same time as the board and told me they would be in lay-away... no problem. Pros: Good selection of outdoor equipment and ski and snowboard gear Cons: Inept and rude sales and customer service more

I give up - stay away. 1/2/2007

US Outdoor's website and selection are both pretty good. Pricing is OK, but an attractive option for me since I don't live too far away so shipping costs/time are minimal. Two different attempts at online orders have been greeted with a day or so wait before getting another e-mail that says "sorry - we don't have your item." Those of you reading at home probably understand the level of frustration that results when you get an e-mail instead of your stuff. I never detected any malice or rudeness from the staff, but I really think management needs to get a clue because the customer service/reliability aren't even close to REI, Sierra Trading Post, Backcountry, etc. - you can do better elsewhere. Try Next Adventure in Portland. Pros: Decent website and selection Cons: 0 for 2 on orders with me. Tha'ts enough. more

Inconsistent 11/17/2005

The Us Outdoor Store have some great people there but there is confusion with the workers because evrything is pretty loose. The last time I went, the person helping me was rude. Customer service isnt great. The products are pretty expensive. Pros: knowledgable Cons: selection, price, customer service more

A lesson in space saving 11/1/2005

I haven't lived in Portland long and I have most of the gear I need, but the few times I've needed somthing I've gone to US Outdoor Store. Everytime I've gone in I've been able to find exactly what I needed. One of the most impressive things about USOS is the amount of staff they are able to keep in the store. Their prices aren't cheap, but what can you expect with the quality of equipment they carry. Even though it is busting at the seems you'd hardly know it, I never have to squeez by racks (if the store isn't full of people), and things are neat and orderly. From my limited interaction with the staff they are all pleasant and appear to know what they're talking about. Pros: Selection, Curtousy Cons: Parking more
