This is a FANTSTIC SPOT!! 9/24/2007

Went in the other night and sat on one of the big tables with some old friends and had a blast! The music was fun and the food and service were terrific. The servers were of great help in deciphering the menu too. Very lively spot which is great for freinds who want to go out and have some FUN! DEFINATLEY ORDER THE OYSTERS!!! Pros: the atmosphere and the food! Fun! Cons: Had to wait a little (awsomely packed) but well worth it. more

Best Tapas bar in Boston 8/18/2007

I do not understand how anyone can rate this as a bad restaurant, it was so good! I just came back from Spain and I am a very picky eater and can say the food and service were great!!! They have dishes that I never thought I could find here in the States and the athmosphere is really fun. Make sure to try the Pimientos al Padron, something people may not be used to but is so special. Every tapas we tried was amazing, and the waitress was so nice and flexible, at the end we asked if we could sit at the bar for our desert and coffee and she was extremely accomodating. You CAN NOT miss this place, it is an absolute must and is definitely on my list of top restaurants in Boston!!! Pros: Food, service & athmosphere Cons: None, except that you may have a long wait and they do not accept reservations, but it is well worth the wait! more

Worst, terrible and rude service. Don't go! 8/16/2007

I have been to Toro 3 times now and let me tell you THE SERVICE IS TERRIBLE!!! This last time I went (last nite) I was happy to see new faces hoping that the service this time will be better. The kitchen closes at 10:30pm and we plus my 2 friends arrived at 9:40pm. Pros: Good looking place Cons: Terrible Service more

Worst service ever! 8/2/2007

This was the second time that a friend and I ate here. While the food was delicious the service was deplorable! They would not let us wait inside at the bar for our table. Instead, they stated that they were at capacity and recommended that we go to another restaurant for drinks while we wait. Pros: Great Food Cons: Very long wait and service was outright bad! more

Tapas for inexperienced yuppies 7/1/2007

Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy from service to food. Our waitress, no where to been seen most of the night, brought cold tapas, and they were either undercooked or over cooked. As for the paella it was definitely undercooked! took literally 12 min for the chef to cook, obviously someone failed to mentioned that to the chef since my mussels were of clam texture, chicken pink, and the sausage felt/looked like it was out all day sliced from the early morning. Pros: it has a bar Cons: not an authentic tapas restaurant more

Amazing! 6/4/2007

I have been to many tapas restaurants but this one beats them all. I actually read about Toro in Boston Magazine and was impressed by its accolades. I finally got to go two weeks ago and it definitely lived up to its reputation. The wait was reasonable especially for a Saturday night. I think I scared my waiter with my enthusiasm to try the oysters (which I highly recommend.) The food was fantastic and we tried ALOT. The only thing I didn't get to try, but will the next time, is the paella as the people sitting next to me we ranting and raving about theirs. Would go there again in a heartbeat. Pros: The food, obviously Cons: Service could have been a bit more upbeat. more

Excellent Tapas 4/29/2007

Fantastic food - some of the best tapas I have ever had. Fun atmosphere, but extremely crowded. On a Friday or Saturday night expect to have to wait at least an hour. Unfortunately they don't take reservations, but if you are just a party of 2, it's fun and easy to sit at the bar and share some excellent Sangria while waiting for a table! Pros: Excellent food! Cons: No reservations and long wait on weekend nights more

not worth it 4/27/2007

So the food is okay, but not worth the price. The restaurant is too small, and if a meal for two costs almost 200 bucks, then you should at least be at your own table - most of the table in the restaurant are lined up against a wall with one long bench a la cafeteria. I could hear EVERYTHING the people near us were saying. The port and wine list is great. However, the service was disjointed and several people would try to come and take our food before we were done! In addition, the waitress ended up being pretty rude and chattering on in Spanish to my boyfriend as if I weren't there. Even though I understand Spanish, she seemed to not notice or care. Really annoying! Spend your money somewhere else. It's disappointing because, if everything else wasn't so bad, I might have enjoyed the food! Pros: nice decor, decent food Cons: overpriced, bad wait staff, bad seating arrangements more

Good food, fun atmoshpere, but rude service 4/18/2007

I know some restaurants choose not to take reservations for some reason - maybe it adds to the 'mystique' of a place, who knows. But if you're not going to take them, at least be honest with people when they call ahead. I tried to go last night with a couple of friends and the host I'd spoken to earlier that day informed me that they did not take reservations, but there shouldn't be much of a wait because wednesdays aren't crowded. We got there and there was an hour and a half wait. Really disappointing because my friends had driven in from out of the city, so it unnecessarily complicated our evening. They've got good food - I've been there before - but that kind of disrespect is just unnecessary. Pros: Good food, fun scene Cons: no reservations, host misled us about how long the wait would be more

yes, yes, yes 3/30/2007

I loved Toro- tasty food, wine, decor, and service. We waited for 45 minutes on a Thursday night, however, we were told one hour, so we were prepared to wait for a while. The food was very tasty and we enjoyed their wine selection. I am definetly going back to Toro pretty soon. Pros: Food, wine, decor Cons: Looooooooong waits more

The hottest staff in Boston 3/4/2007

My girlfriends and I go all the time not only for the amazing food and scene but also for the hot guys working there! Clint is so nice, Chris is so cute and Jason is just...wow! These guys are so hot and they like to have fun too. I've never wanted to leave my number for anyone who's ever waited on me before but this place has made me re-think that notion. So ladies, If you're looking for a fun place to go with your girlfriends where you'll be amazed by the food as well as the HOT men with dreamy eyes and tattoos Pros: Hot men on staff Cons: can't take them home ( or can I?) more

Skip Prix Fixe Menu- maybe the corn? 2/15/2007

For the Valentine's Night special fixe menu that consisted of 5 courses, my boyfriend and I were very much let down, so much so that I had to post today. Even before, we were recommended ""try the corn!"" by perfect strangers and got jazzed. Maybe that's the key to this new spot. With crammed tables and rushed service (there were several empty tables -staff worked faster than the drivethrough crew at McDonalds to get us out of there!), I don't recommend the hefty change you dish out to dine here for the slightly arty presentation and moderate attempts on making a cheeze-it sized slice of tuna seem novel. Maybe we will return for the corn, but little else. Pros: Nice music, not too distracting, warm fire Cons: Overpriced, rushed service, tight quarters, not relaxing. more

it's all been said before -- crowds, prices, etc. 2/11/2007

the food's good here, make no mistake. but the prices are pretty high, all things considered. and the waits can be outrageous. more

The corn is worth the wait 2/4/2007

We've tried almost the entire menu but the corn by far is the best. I highly recommend the octopus cerviche, the shrimp and the cheese plate. Stay away from the cockscomb dish it's not very good. The price may be a bit high for the portion size but it's expected. Go before 7pm and you might get seated right away. It's a small charming place and the staff is very attentive. Pros: corn , great wine, great cocktails Cons: the wait, the crowds, one restroom more

Best Brunch in Boston 1/24/2007

After the line being too long at Mike's we stopped in Toro because the prices seemed decent for the South End. After recently having several horrible brunches in this area, I was looking forward to a different experience, and that is exactly what I had. The French Toast was fabulous. I didn't even have to use syrup because the soft apples so soft and warm. My bf got the huevos rancheros and thought it was the best attempt at latin food in boston. We also shared the corn side dish (which was fabulous) Both of us got brunch entrees, coffee and shared a side for $32. Great steal! more

Exquisite food, and attentive service. Whole bass with sea salt dough a MUST! 11/8/2006

This past Tuesday election day, we decided to come to Toro on a weekday since it's usually pretty crowded on weekend. Our delightful waitress greeted us with a lovely smile and let us know items that were being highlighted that evening. She took such enthusiasm in described the Black bass, Lubena with fresh rosemary leaves, and garlic that she sold it to us. She recommended a fabulous wine to accentuate our meal. The food was spectacular we had several tapas including the salt cod fritters and fried potatoes with garlic mayo which were delicious, but the Lubena was the most spectacular dish ever. The waitiress deboned the whole fish infront of us and as she had mentioned it was the best fish I have ever had. My friends were amazed by this experience. We will definitely come again. Everyone should try this dish it is honestly incredible. thanks to our server for making such fabulous reccomendations! Pros: delightful and attentive service. The tapas are excellent but the whole black bass out of this world! more

Great Tapas! But parts dissapointing! 9/25/2006

I had many different impressions as I went to Toro this past Saturday it was quite hectic as usual but it felt that it was a faternity party. The bartenders at times were quite aloof and at times boderline rude! There were a couple at one of the large shared spaces encouraging shots of tequila and the champagne Porron. (as if this was a College party)I thought I was going to a trendy local spot. It's okay to have a great time but please take consideration of others! I will say the food was remarkable and the waitstaff pleasant but please bartenders smile, be pleasant, and mgt try to be sensitive to other guests. I felt at one point that I was at the Rattlesnake or on Avalon Street for gourmet tapas....I will go again to Toro but I hope there is no college party especially for the cost of drinks and food I shouldn't feel like I'm at a frat house! Pros: great food friendly waitstaff and host Cons: bartenders too aloof, too loud and roudy at times! more

My new favorite restaurant 9/16/2006

I just moved to Boston from New York and was afraid I would miss the NY restaurant scene. But I have found my new hang out, not too far from my apartment in the south end. For dinner it is a great place to go with a bunch of friends after work and grab several tapas and cocktails. I love that thing you drink the spanish champagne out of, I ended up wearing half the bottle. I also love going alone before the rush hits to get a quick drink and a tapas at the bar before I head home. But I just tried their Sunday brunch and it kicks butt. I went with a couple girlfriends and we had pretty much everything on the menu. My favorites were the eggs with chorizo, so tasty, the almond butter, membrillo, banana pressed sandwich and also the heuvos rancheros. The food is absolutely delicious. It is a tasty brunch that does not leave you with that heavy feeling. Be prepared to have a drink at the bar if you get there during the rush. Pros: food, scene, casual Cons: wait more
