Loved the corn. 8/5/2010

I went for my boyfriend's birthday so of course I did my research before. We chose around 7 or 8 tapas for just us two to get a satisfying meal plus a dessert. The order of tapas served was according to how heavy of flavors the each were. Since all the rave was about the grilled corn, we definitely had to order it and....it was amazing. I've also never had corn with cheese so maybe that had something to do with my shockedness. Nevertheless it was great. We were also laughing at one of the waiters because the whole time, we felt like he came out of nowhere and spoke in this hushed tone in our ears haha. If I remember correctly we had the sea salted peppers, pan con tomate, oysters with the lemon foam (one of my faves), ensalada, cod fritters (also fave), smoked duck drummettes (loved the flavor of sauce), potatoes (kinda dry), cauliflower, and grilled corn. The only con was that there was no where to put my jacket because I was seated at one of the middle tables. I had to sit on my jacket and didn't really like that people were brushing over it everytime they had to pass by because the restaurant's cramped. If I weren't anal about that, I would've given 5 stars. But the food definitely makes up for that. more

Best for RW 2/23/2010

I love Restaurant Week. It's a smidge of an addiction. I'll book 3-5 ressies each of the weeks, and more often than not, I'll go to all of them. I love a bargain, what can I say? Toro is the BEST deal for Restaurant Week. Reasons? 1. You order off the real menu. No scraping the bottom of the freezer case, just cuz it's cheapo week. The ENTIRE menu, too. Not just these 4 options. The whole. Darn. Thing. 2. The more people you go with, the more tapas you order. Go with a group of 3? Choose 1 app, 8 tapas, 1 dessert each. I was with a party of 5, I think we got something insane like 18 choices. Whatever it was, we were rolling out of there. 3. Fanastic wine list. Try something crazy. Also, the waitstaff is really helpful in this regard. 4. The food is amazing. Ken Oringer doesn't mess around. I endorse the ""weird stuff"", aka tripe, beef heart, etc. Weird stuff is good, especially in tapas. Give it a try. Short list of faves: Ham-wrapped dates; corazon a la plancha; corn on the cob with aioli & cotija; Lengua with lentils... I really could go on and on. One bummer... there's usually a wait, even with a ressie. But once you're seated, it doesn't really matter. Pros: The food Cons: The wait more

Order the corn. Go in the summer. 2/19/2010

Had a lovely Saturday night dinner here a while back. It was a beautiful summer night so we were lucky to get a table outside. For three meat eaters and one vegetarian (me), we got hummus--very good; maiz asado--it's true what everyone else says, it's AMAZING; tortilla de zucca--good, texture not stellar, but not bad; roasted cauliflower--really good; chickpeas with chorizo and swiss chard--good; the following meat/fish dishes were all good according to my dining companions: braised short rib, tuna tartare, grass fed beef heart, shrimp, anchovies. The churros con chocolate were disappointing I must say. But a cheese plate, complete with candied walnuts, guava paste, and fruit, was fantastic. The service was very pleasant and attentive. That corn though, I'm gonna remember that for a while. Pros: The corn. Cons: Churros :( more

Perfect night out 11/25/2009

I've been to Toro 15 or more time. Never been disapointed- never. I've taken friends- people I work with- family....they've all fallen in love the same way I have. Perfect cocktails and wonderful food...married with a great feeling spot!!! Pros: love the salted peppers Cons: parking...I guess...but this is Boston more

Great place but we felt sick afterward 11/15/2009

My wife and I have been here for the 2nd time because we thought it was such a cool place with awesome food. Had a great time and if you want to feel ""in the know"", than this is the place. Its even packed on a random Tuesday evening! Pros: Atmosphere, drink menu, food Cons: Wait times...no res accepted more

Great food, mediocre service 7/11/2009

I can't comment the authenticity but I think Toro so far is the best when compared to Dali or Tapeo. The food are much delicately prepared and .. adventurous. I think the corn, beef tongue, octopus cerviche are some of the best to name a few. I have been back there more than a couple of times. The cons are: no reservation. And, they don't seat until all the parties show up. It's hard for a large group. It's true the service aren't that great, but I tend to ignore them (even they might be rushing me..) For the food, I'm willing to put up with this. To get a seat promptly, I tend to go there around 5.45 p.m., after that, there is a long wait ... Pros: Food Cons: service, no reservation more

Tapas that turns you on 5/22/2009

We tried this amazing little place for the first time, and we had a fantastic night which started with delicious red wine. You get the impression from the decor and general vibe that you really are in Spain, and the food is certainly delicious. We did an assortment of tapas plates and desserts and almost all of them were very good, particularly the Yellowfin tuna with citrus and soy. However, if you are a vegetarian, there are not a ton of choices if you don't eat fish. Pros: Hot vibe, awesome wine, delicious food Cons: They forgot to bring one of the things we ordered more

Spain was never this good 3/31/2009

It's always a party at Toro. It's a place where you can't help but have a good time, enjoy your friends, and feel the buzz. Pros: The amazing little plates, especially the corn Cons: Well, it's too crowded more

Fantastic every time 11/19/2008

A great way to sample the delicious, creative dishes from Ken Orringer. I'm impressed each time with how many plates we get for what the bill totals to - a good deal for a high end place. Cons: crowded more

Some of the best food in Boston, hands down 8/20/2008

What some people don't know about this place is the empenadas are made by this woman in her home. Then she delivers them to Toro, and they cook and serve them. They are the most delicious thing I've ever tasted, not to mention, home made! The staff is great, Mojito's are yummy, and it's nice that you can see the kitchen, so you know it's clean. The sangria leaves something to be desired, but they do put delicious fresh orange and apple slices in it. They are good to munch on between bread slices. Also, you absolutely have to get the corn. I know everyone probably says that, but it's amazing. Pros: Amazing Tapas, good for groups of friends Cons: You leave smelling like the fireplace burning inside! more

Great food that is inexpensive 8/1/2008

Fun restaurant with outstanding food. The grilled corn with pepper and aged cheese was incredible, I broke my don't eat corn on the cob in public rule for it, and would do so again! more

The most amazing food experiencee period... 6/26/2008

In addition to offering the best and most creative spanish cuisine, Toro offers a truly amazing food tasting experience period. I have experienced tapas restaurants in San Franciso, Chicago, New York and Miami and Toro is far and above the best I have had. Atmosphere is vibrant, wine selection is phenomenal. Service can be slow due to crowds more

Great food, terrible service 5/28/2008

The food was incredible! The service was beyond terrible... They kept taking away plates with food still on them and half full drinks... We even had to rescue a part full carafe of wine from the bar! They also accidentally debited an extra $200 from my account (which was voided, but still took a week to arrive back in my account), so I'd recommend paying with cash or a credit card that isn't linked to your bank account! Pros: the food! Cons: the service more

Always a great experience! 4/8/2008

I have dined at Toro more than a few times. It is without a doubt one of my fave places to eat in the city. I always get great service here, and it is always fun to see what new dishes have been added to the menu. I eat here about once a month, and have yet to be disappointed. Great front of the house staff + great cocktails+ amazing nibble= Toro. Best tapas around, hands down! Viva la Toro! !Coma aqui, usted lo amara! Pros: Great food, drinks, and service. Fun scene, cool neighborhood. Cons: nothing, except having to wait for a table, even on a Sunday night. more

Excellent Food and Drinks, Extremely Slow Drink Service 2/19/2008

I went here with some girls to celebrate a birthday. We went on a Monday night and didn't think it would be crowded, but thank god we got there before 8...or we would have been waiting. The waitress was prompt at first and recommended some great drinks to start out. The ""hue-ball sangria"" was delicious, but took forever to get it. We ordered a few tapas for the table (corn, artichokes, croquetas, veggie dish, etx) and finished off with a plate of cheese, which all came out quickly, but the waitress was no where to be found to order more drinks. The tapas were great and just enough to keep us satisfied and not too full. The corn was the best I've ever had and we were tempted to order a second plate of it. Definitely recommend this place, but be aware the service isn't the best. Pros: corn, Spanish setting Cons: Service more

Best tapas outside of Spain 1/4/2008

I lived in Barcelona for a year, and I've been to the best tapas restaurants in New York and London. Toro is, hands down, the most authentic and best-tasting location that I have been to outside of Spain. Prices are a little high, but compared with an airplane ticket to Europe, really very affordable. Pros: authenticity, quality of food, ambience Cons: price more

People, this isn't Spanish food!! 11/28/2007

I wonder if the other people who wrote reviews for this restaurant have ever been in Spain. Pros: Decor, good looking people. Cons: Almost everything else, the food, the lack of real Spanish character.. more

Not worth it!! 11/6/2007

Miserable service, Meat tapas very greasy, undercooked. Small portions, creme Catalana just miserable. more
