Nice 4/10/2012

Tony Luke's serves very delicious meals. The ambiance is great and there are very nice people inside the restaurant. more

This place has a great vibe! 1/8/2012

This place is nice to be around. there isn't too much in the way that distracts you from enjoying a nice cheese steak. more

Best Roast Beef in South Philly 4/23/2011

Prices have creeped up, almost better to go to the Melrose, but if you are on the way to the sports complex it would be worth a stop here (depending on the line, the service has slowed down as well). You can't call ahead (forget about it). Still have great sandwiches, Liscio rolls. more

Decent Sandwiches, No Place to eat 'em 10/28/2010

As a child, I made a number of trips from New York to Philadelphia to visit my relatives. For some odd reason, we only ate the usual fare that you can find in pretty much any big, American city. I never ate an authentic Philly Cheese Steak. more

disappointed! 7/4/2010

I came up to Philly from Baltimore to visit friends. We saw Tony Luke's on Man vs Food, and decided to go there for dinner. I could get over that it was in a weird, dis-invested area, but the food was the most disappointing factor. I ordered a cheesesteak, but you would have thought I had ordered beef wellington for how long it took. Then when I got it, it was the most tasteless, ordinary sandwich imaginable. I've had better at Subway! I guess a little fame has gone to their heads, and now they are trying to get by on the name. Too bad... Pros: plenty of parking Cons: mediocre food, slow service more

Unimpressive, and uninteresting. 6/2/2010

I went to Tony Luke's because a friend of mine said it was the best cheese steak in Philly contrary to the reviews on City Search. I wasn't surprised, my friend has no concept of what good food is and the reviews didn't lie. While placing the order I asked the guy at the counter to explain what ""Broccoli Rabe"" was. He looked at me dumb founded and said ""its a bitter sauce"". Only after I got home I found out its just a type of Broccoli. Good job knowing what you are serving. Then it took 35 minutes to get the cheese steak, preceded by a 35 minute wait in line to even place the order. I had my cheese steak with onions and sharp provolone, I didnt ask for something out of the ordinary so I dont know why it took so long. Finally after getting the cheese steak I open it up and immediately ask, wheres the cheese. Turns out the cheese, which there wasnt much off had embedded itself into the top half of the hero. There might as well as have been no cheese, I couldnt even taste it. On top of that the bread was cold. The meat itself was flavorless, luke warm, and lacked any aroma. The onions looked like they have been sitting for a while and lacked flavor as well. The mushrooms in the other cheese steak were from a can, not fresh. If it wasnt for being really really cheap I would have been royally pi$$ed. Tip: Save yourself the time and effort and just get a cheese steak somewhere else, preferably not at any of the hyped up tourist traps like Pats and Genos(Friends went, also said it wasnt good) or Tony Luke's. Pros: Price, its cheap and thats it. Cons: Long lines, no seating room, flavorless meat. more

Watch the servers at Tony Lukes Sports Bar 7/2/2008

Visited on 6/01/08 and found the food and service measured up to the reputation earned. We each had the famous roast pork and seasoned fries. Pros: Great food and atmosphere Cons: Watch the servers don't double dip on tips if you pay by credit card and leave a cash tip more

Not the best anymore 6/20/2008

their cheesteaks used to be divine, but now they are like everyone else's. you pay way too much money for a steak because they can barely spare the cheese. if you dont mind a steak with hardly any cheese than eat here Pros: the location Cons: the price and def not enough cheese, too hot more

Roast Pork Italian - Incredible 3/9/2008

Tony Luke's is a Philly tradition. If you're looking for a cheesesteak or a chicken parm sub, this is the place to go before a Flyers, Phillies or Sixers game. And now they're even open on Sundays before Eagles games! But if you're looking for the absolute best roast pork sandwich on the planet, then Tony Luke's is the place to go. The roast pork Italian comes with either broccoli rabe or spinach rabe and SHARP provolone cheese. Without hesitation I can honestly say this is the single best sandwich I've ever tasted. The pork has a delicious spice, the rolls are cooked on-site, the broccoli rabe has a nice zing to it and the cheese is melted heaven. Honestly, if you're a Philly guy, you know this place. If you're not and happen to be in Philly, do yourself a favor and head to Tony Luke's. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Pros: Everything on the menu is delicious. Not hyperbole either. Cons: Standing in a mile long line in the heart of the summer isn't fun but it's worth it, more

IT WAS DISGUSTING. worst cheesesteak i ever had.overhyped slop.i took 2 bites and threw it in the trash.it was inedible.had to try it, boy was i sorry.i was wretching trying to get down the bites i took.this place is a truck stop choke and puke.STAY AWAY. FAR AWAY. Pros: 95 IS RIGHT THERE FOR A QUICK GETAWAY, RUN, RUN FAST.DO NOT RETURN. Cons: SIDEWALK SEATING AREA SMELLS LIKE CITY HALL STOP OF THE BROAD ST. LINE.URINE more

Won't try again 7/10/2007

My one time in Philadelphia rather than passing thru the airport, thought I'd try ""the best cheesesteak in town"", according to the ratings and peoples comments. Tony Luke's was a BIG disappointment. Bland meat and skimpy portions, almost no cheese and unremarkable bread. We tried two different types to compare; one with whiz and one with sharp but both had almost no flavor unless you added the hot peppers or hot sauce. The onion rings were OK but greasy, slightly undercooked and nothing special. (I added mine to the sandwich to boost the taste.) Next time I'm in town I'll try some place else. Pros: Good for people watching Cons: Parking, long lines more

#1 in my book 4/5/2007

People can argue who's got the best cheesesteaks for hours. It's all a matter of taste. MY taste says Tony Lukes is the best around. When the wintry winds stop blowing and the Phillies start playing we always stop at Tony Lukes on our way to the game. Yes, there's one at the stadium but it has proven inconsistant. Some days great; some days not so great. We're never disappointed on Oregon Ave. Pros: best cheesesteaks! Cons: parking but who cares? more

Quaint it ain't, but it doesn't get more authentic than this 11/3/2006

I don't leave a trip to Philly without bringing some Tony's hoagies home with me. It isn't tucked across the street from the Liberty Bell and might not be a tourist's dream of an ideal Philadelphia, but South Philly has its own character and pride, and you'll find a rich cross-section of that at Tony's. They make the bread on-site, and the cheesesteaks and hoagies they build on the bread are nothing short of outstanding. I've not tried the signature pork sandwich with broccoli rabe, but you can bet I will on my next trip. Pros: quality of food, variety of menu choices Cons: service can be brusque but is always efficient more

if you are in South Philly, go somewhere better 10/25/2006

Besides being overpriced and over crowded Tony Luke's food is terrible! If you are in South Philly then there are plenty of choices that would serve you better and be more pleasant as they take your money. The only conclusion I have to it's popularity is it's location. The steak is rough and overcooked, and dare I say fatty and the roast pork is dry. For those of you raving about chicken cutlets...here's a little secret, the pre battered frozen chicken that you are eating isn't that hard to cook....save a few bucks and keep on driving. Pros: nothing like grease to coat the belly after a hard night of drinking~! Cons: the food. more

Is your wallet holding less these days... this is the place to go 10/22/2006

This is the place to grab a sandwich... Pros: wonderful sandwiches Cons: outside seating arrangements more
