I've had Tidwell Auto Service do my major maintenance and repairs for many years and recommend them highly! Last time I was in I thought I had a cracked exhaust manifold, but they determined it was only a loose spark plug, saving me hundreds of dollars. The major maintenance they performed on my Acura cost half of what the dealer would have charged me. They replaced the rear axle of my Chevy Avalanche at a fair price, too! I'm a big fan of Tidwell. They kept my old car running for over 175,000 miles, never doing unnecessary work, and making sure it could pass inspection when my finances were strained. They have oil change specials on Mondays, and other discounts for repeat customers. The front desk person always works with me to get the best price, and goes out of the way to deal with my work schedule. Troys crew at Tidwell Auto has taken care of all of the vehicles that I have owned for the last 15 years, from full engine rebuilds to routine monthly oil changes. I put 100 miles per day on my vehicle and get the oil changed every month. We sent two kids off to college, one to Texas Tech and one to TWU in Denton and all of the work needed to keep their cars running safely and dependably was performed at Tidwell Auto. I drove a 1995 Chevy Tahoe for 12 years and put 367,000 miles on it. I never had an engine or transmission problem with Troys folks doing all of the maintenance. They did the brakes three or four times. They rebuilt the front end twice and replaced the air conditioner. When I look back on the years of dependable transportation from that truck, the cost of vehicle ownership was less than ten cents per mile. Their work has always been done quickly and correctly, at a fair price. My son worked for several years in Plano. One day he was on his dinner break a little after 5:00pm. He headed back to work down Parker Road while they were doing some road construction. A rock flew up and hit his clutch master cylinder. He was stranded, stuck in the middle of Parker road during rush hour. He called me at DFW airport. All I could think to do was to call Troy and ask if he could help. He and his men dropped what they were doing to go help my son. They pushed his truck onto a residential street and made arrangements to have a tow truck pick up his truck and get it to their shop. Please keep in mind that by this time it is well after they would have normally closed for business. I hope that this story says something to you about the customer service at Tidwell Automotive. It is kind of hard for me to write about and not think back on what a different kind of ending this event could have had without Troy and his crew. That 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup was returned to my son, running perfectly the next day before noon. My daughters 1995 Toyota 4 Runner had the engine rebuilt three years ago by Troys team and has run perfectly. It already has over 24,000 more

The girl at the desk and who answers the phone is constantly trying to turn away oil changes. I saw her do it to multiple people (she tried to turn me away too) while I was waiting almost 2 hours for my oil change. Every time someone would come in, she'd say they were booked and too busy. The customers would proceed to explain that they were told to come anytime after whatever x o'clock and they could be helped. She would then recant and take the business. She also told me that if I want an oil change on a Friday, I should come early because if they are slow they close early. Nice to know... If I didn't have a groupon to this place, I'd never go back. Bad service, long wait, not worth it. more

Very bad experience. will never recommend. Front desk lady is rude. For a simple question, response was very rude, after I got the major repair done with them. I will never ever go to them again. They started doing the major repair work without taking authorization. I ended up doing the work and paying huge amount. I cannot comment on quality of work as I have yet to observe that. more

Just got my car back today from your shop. I?ve always been pleased with the service your shop and your people have provided. Lauren has always been so helpful picking me up or taking me back home when needed. One suggestion I would make ? put paper (or something else) down on the floorboards if the mechanics will be working inside the car. Spills from grandchildren is bad enough but grease or dirt from the working parts of a car are worse and harder to get out.\r Thanks for all the great work and service your shop provides. I definitely have recommended Tidwell Automotive to friends and will continue to do so. more

I went to pick up my car from Tidwell Automotive in Plano, TX and was verbally attacked by the mechanic/owner. I asked a simple question about a coupon and I told him that he did not have to be so rude. I almost called the Plano Police Department today. I will never do business with Tidwell again nor step foot on their property. Lunatics and raving maniacs work there. They are rude and unprofessional. Existing and potential clients need to know before leaving their autos with them that they, too, might have a similar experience. I swear this shop isn't what it used to be. My family and i have several vehicles that we ALWAYS take into TAS. For years we've been loyal and haven't taken any of our vehicles elsewhere. However, over time, they've gotten worse and worse. #1, the young lady at the front is usually very prompt in calling customers back. My last experience, she NEVER called me back. I had to harass her just for the simple fact I couldn't get them to call me back. Came back that I had a pretty extensive repair, which was expected. So, I gave them the # to my warranty company to go ahead and file a warranty claim. Didn't get a call back so I called my warranty company to check on the claim 2 days later. The company said they haven't heard anything from any repair shop. I called back to Tidwell and she says, ""Oh I was just about to call them!"" 2 DAYS LATER. At this point they've had my car for a WEEK. Finally, the ball started rolling and I was given the repair estimate...3 WEEKS LATER. Now, again I completely understand repairs take a while, but them having my car for 5 weeks is ridiculous. I feel taken advantage of especially since we've done so much business with them and have given them THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of dollars. They just aren't what they used to be and i will never do business with Tidwell Auto Svc again....period more

As a woman who has always decided where to repair our vehicles, I am very impressed with this young lady's knowledge. Please keep up the good work, as it is very refreshing to have women up front who are knowledgeable about car repair and can relay proper information and answer questions.I was also given a 20% discount on repairs which was greatly appreciated! more
