Dinner on 10/21 10/22/2003

What a wonderful place. We were seated promptly and the server was friendly and knowledgable. My wife and I love anything Carribean so this palce is great. Food was above average. Evey month there is a new tasting menu that features a specific island. Fun palce. Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Rum Drinks Cons: Parking more

great times in unique atmosphere 8/30/2003

My girlfriend and I dined at tiburon when it first opend in jan and had a very pleasant experince. the service was great and the food was good. the drinks were the best i had in town. we returned recently and we pleasantly surprised to find that the food and drink were superb as was in jan, but the food was greatly improved. we had the lobster taco's which are new to menu, and they may be the best taco in town. we had a great time over all. Pros: Great drinks, cool fish tank Cons: not alot of parking more

Tiberon 8/16/2003

A reservation ensured a great booth and a warm greeting. Fantastic menu - great to have a website so we could drool in advance. Conch fritters were amazing, salad selection was interesting and worth sampling. Snapper was entirely fresh & cooked perfectly. We also had the 5 course menu - this month showcases Jamaica, the pepperpot soup lacked spice but the other courses were daring and tasty. The presentation & portions are top notch and the staff were wonderful. The setting is great with plenty to take in. Really more of an event than a dinner. Excellent value. Simply perfect. Also if you go to the Science Museum's Coral Reef Omni Movie this month you receive comp dessert and ...they donate some of the cost of your dinner to coral restoration! Hope i can still get a table when it's more famous and the staff stay as welcoming. Pros: Good parking, Great setting, Great food more

Tiburontastic! 7/21/2003

Bringing two out of towners as part of our party of 5 and never having visited myself, I was leary after reading the previous reviews. We were pleasantly surprised! For starters the coconut shrimp were huge - the peeky toe crab cakes deliscious. Toss in a couple of Mojitos for mojito virgins - they loved the mix of flavors. The field green salads were fresh, light and quite a suprise compared to the boring salads commonly found in MPLS. The pork loin, taco langosta and BBQ sea bass were hits - steer clear of the fish tacos - very bland mahi mahi and uneventful salsa. I ended up stealing the sauce from the taco langosta just to add flavor. Stacy - our server was impecable, patient with many questions and very friendly. We didn't think the tab was bad at $145+tx for all of that. Fish tanks are very cool! Pros: fish tanks, valet, service Cons: no menu spice guide more

Second time was better 7/2/2003

Had an good first visit after the opening, but had a better experience the second time. I thought the food was bland the first time much better, jerk pork loin was very good, the second time. Service was friendly, yet forgot the details (need silver to eat). Looking forward to round three. Pros: Aquarium, Food, Cocktails Cons: Details more

Unique and wonderful. 5/1/2003

What attention to detail and service. Nothing in the cities like it. Wait staff uses wireless palm pilots..cool. Save room for the key lime cheese cake. yum. Pros: Great Valet service, design, desert more

Tiburon Target 4/17/2003

I've been to Tiburon 3 times, all of which i sat in the bar area for cocktails and appetizers. I have learned the following: The food is quite good. Though I've only had the tapas, I can say the preparations are very good, though not quite authentic (inspired is how they put it). I recommend the mussles, hearts of palm and conch fritters. The wine list is somewhat overpriced and on the thin side. The mojitos need more rum. The bar staff is a bit slow. The regulars are a fun and chatty bunch. The aquarium is fantastic. The way the lighting cycles made me think i was tripping, and i liked it. I'm excited to have dinner at Tiburon, if the tapas are any indication, i plan to be pleased. Pros: Food, Feel Cons: Slow Bar more

Lucky Find 4/16/2003

SoBe in Minny. this place has the elegence and feel of an upscale restaurant found in South Beach( or maybe the ""new"" Brickell Ave) Miami (my home city). The differences are Tiburon has great service and the prices are half of what I pay at home. Food was fresh and exciting, the atmosphere to die for. Pros: service, fish tank, food Cons: 1000 miles away, weather, weather more

No complaints here. (but not much boast) 3/24/2003

Went to Tiburon 9pm Sat. night. Parking stunk, but that was expected. We should have done Valet. The host was wonderful, and we waited just a couple minutes (as walkins) for our choice of table or booth. VERY good service, server went through the favorites with me patiently. and the restaurant decor was FABULOUS! (love the bear grass and changing light hues. The Fishtank is impressive too, of course. Food was good... great Grouper Sandwich, Yellowtail Snapper ended up overdone (I even requested it on the rare side) but black beans were BORING. We liked the coconut ""scented"" rice, though. ""Scented"" ? Everything was buzz-word ""scented."" Prices, fair. Service, good. We walked out happy, but not elated. The most amazing thing all night was the lovely petite hostess prancing around, looking comfortable in her 4 inch spike heels. Ouch. Pros: decor, outside the box, fun Cons: leaves u wanting...?, parking, boring beans more

Yummy, eclectic choices! 3/14/2003

Pricey drinks/food reasonabe. Bar cozy - wall of windows - dining room large & open. Coconut crusted shrimp with guava-horseradish sauce & cumin scented coleslaw was yummy without being greasy! Guava-horseradish sauce is to die for - sweet & tangy. Peeky-toe crab cakes with pickled pepper tartar sauce were scrumptious. Ceviche platter included ahi tuna, barbequed shrimp, forbidden-rice crusted oysters, scallops & grilled mushrooms. What are marinated mushrooms doing here? Each offering had a complementary sauce/relish. Shrimp wasnt overpowered by the barbeque sauce & oysters were soooo tender! Grilled calamari spring rolls - imagine a short condom with the tip cut off. Stuffed with buckwheat noodles & veggies & herbs, including cilantro - served with peanut dipping sauce. Very fresh, tender - a good mix of flavors. Tres leche cake: vanilla cake with 3 milks & rum, topped with dulce le leche & whipped cream. Melt in your mouth good! Pros: valet parking, eclectic choices, lots of seafood Cons: a bit pricey more

Perfect Winter Escape!!!! 3/3/2003

Brand new in downtown and worth trying! Wonderful Caribbean food and an atmosphere like nothing else around. A HUGE aquarium divides the lively bar area from the more formal dining area...even the latin jazz music is perfect! We loved the ceviche, the guava bbq snapper and the adobo pork chop. After about a 1/2 hour we didn't even feel like we were in MN anymore. A great escape! Pros: Fun Atmosphere, Great unique food Cons: Valet only after 6pm more

Sassy and Schick 3/1/2003

I was impressed beyond words with this place. The food was superb (I ordered the steamed Mahi Mahi in banana leaf) and service was excellent. The ambience was romantic but trendy and I truly felt it gave a ""caribbean feel."" A wonderful fusion menu too! I plan dining here more often. This place is exactly what sleepy and overcast Minneapolis needs for a little ""pick-me-up"" with style. Try the drinks..... expensive but fun and very tasty. Don't miss the 50ft long tropical fish tank! Pros: trendy, superb food/drinks, great ambience Cons: parking (valet op.), expensive more

Different In a Good Way 2/28/2003

Compared to most other restaurants in downtown Minneapolis, Tiburon offers something special for the eyes. A great atmosphere supplemented by different, yet accessible Caribbean style menu choices. (Though it is a little tough to choose fish as one swims by in the aquarium.) Pros: Atmosphere, Food Choice more

Great addition 2/24/2003

Great appetizers, good service with intelligent staff. Great decor and nice bar. Appetizers were great but food was cold and not as tasty as expected. Overall this is a good addition to our TC. more

POOR FLAVORS 2/16/2003

Caribbean food, in their dreams. Had the ceviche, worst one I ever tasted. Had to wait 35 minutes for a bottle of wine, and the place was empty. Server not even apologize. Rest of the food flavorless... Pros: valet parking, aquarium Cons: food quality, poor service more

A welcome addition 2/6/2003

Fun and lively on a cold winter night. Great spot for drinks...fantastic Minneapple! Food was very good. Pleasant but inexperienced waitstaff tried hard. Worth it. Pros: The Tank(of course) more

unimpressed 2/6/2003

Although the ceviche appetizer certainly looked great nestled in a bed of ice in an oversized wooden bowl, the contents were far less impressive. The tuna was tasteless and the shrimp barely recognizable. The best thing in the bowl was the garnish of salsa hidden under the oysters. The spiny lobster entree was chewy and had to be painstakingly scraped out of its shell. We waited for over twenty minutes (some people said theyd waited over thirty) for the valet to return our car. While the aquarium is certainly impressive (although the sharks weren't even in it when we were there!) the ambience doesn't compensate for the lackluster food. Pros: cool ambience, nice bar, good service Cons: bland food more

sexy place sexy people 2/3/2003

I dinned at tiburon last week and was completely impressed. This was my third visit to Tiburon and the best one yet. The service, once a little slow, is now impecable, tenders and waitstaff. I have traveled the world over and the chef has the food down, yes some dishes are more mild than I like but on my last visit I asked for advice on what to get and the chef actually came out and recommended a dish (he informed me the specials are aimed at more seasoned dinners). If you have been here once and didn't like it you should give it another chance because you are missing out Mon! Pros: food, people, service more

Great experience 1/30/2003

I was very surprised to find such a great new restaurant! The food was very fresh and perfectly prepared. Service was also perfect. Our server was pleasantly transparent! The ambiance is right up there with any cool restaurant in Chicago or L.A. Pros: Fresh, Hip, Fun Cons: Valet Parking, Bar is scammy more

If you like trendy you'll love tiburon! 1/15/2003

The service was great, the food amazing! I would suggest sharing many things.... The meun has many options, and everything was wonderful. Also the ambience feels like you are in LA or NY, NOT Minnesota! Pros: clean, fun more
