My name is Phil LaFollette and I am the owner of Threads Etc. We have been in business almost 20 years, and you are not able to do that if you pick on anyone let alone old ladies. This situation never happened and I consider it liable. Almut is a sneaky fraud, and If I knew who it was I would sue them. People have the right to write what they want, but what I'm stating is that situation never happened. As far as sending payment after hearing from consignors, that is our policy. We try to please everyone 100% of the time, but in this case it did not happen. To call it shady would be extreme! Almut, you are a coward and a fraud! more

GREAT Furniture at Even Better Prices! 8/2/2011

I'm moving this week- and had almost no furniture. So, at a friend's suggestion, I headed to Threads Etc. to take a look around. What a found was an AMAZING store, with knowledgeable & personal staff (it's family-owned and operated), and some really fantastic deals. There's something to be said for the eclectic array of furniture and home accessories in this place. They've got something for everyone- from antiques, to pieces direct from the Merchandise Mart, to some really funky art. I ended up purchasing a sofa/chair set, a bed frame, a kitchen table [that needs a little love], some gorgeous old chairs, and my favorite find: a distressed turquoise/brass-knobbed dresser/mirror & nightstand set. I even found a flat-screen TV in perfect working condition! ....All without breaking the bank and at a fraction of the cost of new furniture. Make sure to check back often, as they have new pieces coming in each day (pieces go on sale depending how long they're been in) ...I've got my eye on a china cabinet (crosses fingers its still there and on sale next time I visit!). I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for great, gently used, unique, reasonable furniture. Visit, explore, and have fun in their giant warehouse (2 floors) more

Huge guys who take care of complaints by threats 6/15/2011

My case occured about a year ago but now that I found this web site it's never too late for ""Caveat Emptor"". These 2 brothers/goons accidentaly (because they are sloppy and careless I soon discovered) busted the glass of an antique china cabinet I left in their care/consignment. I repeatedly nervously warned them that they were going up a staircase precauriously. They don't bother to use covering just ""up and however it goes"". On the fourth step they bashed the frontal glass against the staircase. I am a sr. citizen who then waited to get paid for what legally they destroyed. What happened next was one of the scariest moments of my life. They cornered me swearing and screaming yelling ""tough luck"", that it is not their problem and they were not liable and if I didn't get out of the store they would physically throw me out. I was shaking by then pleading for at least some compensation on an antique that had been valued at approx. $250.00. I asked for the ethics of perhaps at least some type of replacement amid all the furniture in the store. They both started screaming in both my ears and threatening harm if I ever again set foot in their store and to ""get the X%&#* out before they would physically throw me out!!! I was so scared and shaken that I nearly wet my drawers. These are two con artists who literally use their weight to intimidate anyone they can frighten and in that manner are able to pull off a con job instead. Another person I met outside told me they really don't know the value of anything they take in and are often seen arguing ""after the fact"" on original prices they set. I find it shocking that they are still in business. more

Shady business practices 1/25/2011

We put a sofa on consignment at this store. Our contract read that we would receive 40% of the selling price once it sold and payment would be mailed to us. I checked on it several times and was told it had not been sold yet. On 1/11/11 I called again and was told it was sold back in October. I asked why I was not sent a check for the $216 they owed me and was told, ""Oh, we only mail you a check if you call us!"" Really? That was not in the contract. I was told the I would have the check within 2 weeks. 2 weeks have passed and no check. So I called back and was told ""Oh it will probably go out in a few days"" I said I would just come pick it up, and was told, ""We don't allow that. Look at your contract"" It wasn't in the contract that I had to call to even get paid. It no telling how many people never get paid, because they just assume the property doesn't sell and I guess Threads Etc hopes people will just forget about it! These people are crooks. I wouldn't recommend them to an enemy. I'll let you know how long before I get my check. Guess I'll have to call an attorney! more
