This is the worst business I've ever dealt with. It's been seven weeks since I sent them my money for discontinued tiles and all I've gotten in return is lies, promises and threats. They pretend to be red neck Texas idiots so they don't have to give you a rational answer to your questions. My next move is to file a criminal complaint with the Houston Police Dept. and the Postal Inspectors Office. more

I received a quote from this company a week after paying the fee. The company wanted 199.99 for 9 tiles plus an additional fee since the tiles would be shipped to a residential address. I was willing to pay the price quoted since the tile has been discontinued. However, the contract states that the company does not guarantee that there will not be imperfections in the tile. I told the man I spoke with that I would buy the tile if the company would assure me that they were sending 9 tiles that they would consider usable. I told him I realized the dye lots would be different, but that I needed the tiles to be unblemished for that amount of money. Although I was willing to pay almost 200.00 for 9 tiles, they would not do this. I can cut down larger tiles for this application, so I chose not to give this company that has such poor customer service up front my business, since I felt this would be how they would deal with me if I ran into any problems during the transaction. more

Scott was very informative and even went to another old tile distribution place to try to find the tile I was looking for. He was able to give me a lead on where I might find this discontinued tile. I would use this company again if the need arises. If you are under time constraints this would not be a viable method of finding the tile. If you have unlimited time this would be very beneficial. more

Never use this company! A simple request shouldn't take 18 business day. I finally heard back from them after 20 days and they wanted 10 times the cost of the tile because it was discontinued. more

I think the cost (29.95) was quite reasonable for the amount of work entailed to help find the tile I needed. Since it was obsolete, Scott was most helpful in suggesting several alternatives. I would recommend this company, and will certianly use them again should I need their expertise and/or advice. rnnewjersey more

Scott runs his business with no bells and whistles. He outlines the process and does what he says he will do. Is it conventional? no....does he cater to the customer? yes, in his own way. He gets the job done and that is that. this isn't party planning or a landscape job...ITS TILE!! JUST PLAIN TILE!! I agree with him, pay me to look to see if I got it, if I do, you'll get it. Your emergency should not be his problem. The bad reviewers just wish they could be this way too. He personally delivered my tile to Michigan while visiting family - I even got a bonus tile! Good job Scott and keep providing this service no matter what the naysayers say. They are just jealous!! :) more

I paid the 14.95 and within a couple of weeks had a reply. They sent me a firm quote that was good for 7 days. I called to ask a few questions - very nice and took the time to explain to me how do set the wheels in motion. I asked for a call when tile shipped and was given a call with tracking number, etc. Upon delivery as instructed we inspected the tiles, there were a few tiles broken, I called Scott to see how to proceed and was guided in the process, he is replacing the tiles and he is working with the shipper. This is a GREAT PLACE!!! If I ever need out dated tile again this is the place! Pros: Great service Cons: No drawbacks more

I needed a specific color and series of Dal-Tile. I paid the $14.95 fee and after roughly 2 - 3 weeks (a time which was clearly spelled out on the submittal form) received my quote via email. The price was consistent with what I expected to pay for a discontinued product not available at any other distributor. (Note: this site is a source for discontinued out of production tile--it is not a bargain closeout shop) Being somewhat skeptical of sending cash up front to a business run largely over the web, I chose to check the tile out in person. I contacted ThisOldTile. com via the email provided in the quote and scheduled a visit to his Houston warehouse. I witnessed first hand the tremendous amount of Dal-Tile and other brands ThisOldTile. com has in its warehouse. The place was overflowing with huge stacks of pallets of tile. There is so much tile, some has to be stored outside in the yard of the warehouse. (Accordingly, this tile was dirty from the wet cardboard in the boxes--another fact disclosed up front in the quote.) Having seen the shear volume of tile in inventory it is easy to now understand the amount of time required for quoting and then delivering the specified tile. Several people object to paying $14.95 just for a quote on a specific discontinued tile. However, that is the way ThisOldTile. com chooses to do business. If you are not comfortable paying for someones time to research your discontinued tile, then I suggest you try to find it elsewhere. I bought the tile I needed for my project. The tile arrived today exactly as promised by ThisOldTile. com. I cannot speak for others, but my experience has been very positive. The lead times for quoting and delivery are long--but are disclosed in advance and are not out of line for the amount of work required to pull and ship the specific tile requested. I received the quote within the time frame promised and I received my shipment of tile within the time frame promised. From my experience, the gentleman who operates this business is a no-nonsense person who offers no special favors. Each customer is served on a first-come first-served basis and depending upon the backlog your quote and/or order may take several weeks for processing. Be patient. He will deliver as promised. He wanted me to submit a web form on his website so that he could get paid $14.95 to give me the answer. I didn't care for this much since he was on the phone and could give me the answer. Just as Archiebob wrote, I submitted an on-line request for a tile search. You must pay in advance for the search to be performed; I paid. It has now been a few weeks and I have received no confirmation, no response, and several email attempts have gone unanswered. This guy is a scammer!! I know that the tile I am looking for is one that he would have if he were running a legit business. My next steps will be to report him to the B B B and file a report with the Houston police. The website does not provide a phone number for direct contact, which is disconcerting enough. When I tracked down the phone number on Houston City Search and called, the man who answered would not at first confirm that I had reached This Old Tile until I asked for the third time. I told him that I was inquiring into the status of my request submitted online along with a non-refundable $14.95 fee since I had not gotten confirmation that the order had actually been received. He became abusive when he found out that I was calling after the three day waiting period stipulated on his website and said something about me being ""one of those people"" and something about being a ""Ted Kennedy type"" when he misidentified the location of my area code. He challenged me for my name so he could send back my money since he said he ""didn't need business from people like me."" Basic customer service ethics should include clearly identifying the business when answering the phone and providing a way of confirming that orders have been received and are being processed without having to ferret out contact information and endure verbal abuse over the phone. If he didn't have my money and I didn't really need the tile, I would have identified myself to him and taken my refund, but I am still hopeful that he will come up with the tile I need. more
