Best

I have read the reviews on here and have to strongly disagree with some peoples opinion of the staff! I don't think they are rude or standoffish at all! You just have to get to ...

Worst

The people who run this place suck. There is no nice way to say it. The personalities run from obnoxious to bitterly aloof. I know there are some people who chalk this up to "...

Maybe the best chinese restaurant in PDX 4/30/2003

I've been a regular customer of Thien Hong. I would have to say that it might be the best chinese restaurant in PDX. Of course, there are better chinese restaurant in LA, Seattle, Vancouver BC, etc. I do have to say that its salt and peppered squid is amazing. You should not go there without trying it. The price and the ambience is typical to most chinese restaurant -- not much service and loud. Without that, I just would not feel like I'm eating in a chinese restaurant. :) Pros: food, price Cons: small parking, location more

Finally, REAL Chinese Food!! 1/18/2003

This is the only good Chinese food I've found in Portland (thanks to the reviews posted in Citysearch) and I've been searching! The eggplant was sublime with lots of fresh ginger and garlic, the hot-sour soup has the right amount of vinegar, and YES - as everyone says - the Salt-Pepper Squid is fantastic. I'm looking forward to going back and trying out the whole fish options and the Viet Namese dishes on the menu. Pros: Food Variety, Portions, Prices Cons: Location more

Peppered Squid - WOW! 11/4/2002

A clean, open and airy place with large booths and table seating, has the best peppered squid I've had. My wife, who grew up on the beach, is a Calamari fan always ordering it at new resturants and never being satified. It's always too rubbery or too mushy. The Peppered Squid at Thien Hong is wonderfully deep fried, and hot from the fryer is truly a dish to be savored. They also have live Crab and Lobster in a tank that you can choose from. I have to drive accross town to get to Thien Hong but it's worth it. Pros: Peppered Squid, House Special Soup Cons: Parking more

Wonderful and authentic 10/27/2002

This reminds me of the great authentic restaurants in the Chinatowns of NYC and SF. Get the salt and pepper squid. Or oysters in black bean sauce. Sauteed snow pea leaves are awesome too, or chinese broccoli. You really can't go wrong here. Be adventurous. This is not americanized Chinese food! They also have some Vietnamese offerings too. Pros: authentic, tasty, open late Cons: plain setting more

Great Food! Bad Customer Service... 8/6/2002

The food is GREAT! In fact, some of the best (especially the pepper salted shrimp and pepper salted squid). However, the customer service is a 4/10 or 3/10. The gentleman who seats you never smiles, and the older waitress is obnoxiously loud and rude, not to mention the fact that they always fail to refill your drinks (unlike Pho Hung, where they will attentively refill your drinks without you asking them to). The waitress is never around when you need her. Don't forget, NOT ENOUGH PARKING. Other than that, food is GREAT! Pros: GOOD FOOD, Lots of Variety, Rich Flavors Cons: Bad Customer Service, NO PARKING more
