The Upper Hand Salon: River Oaks

After waiting three months for a really terrible angled bob fiasco (from another salon) to grow out, I was so excited, nervous, desperate, to get a new haircut. I made an appointment with Trish, in part because of the great reviews on CitySearch, but also because a friend of mine gets consistently fabulous cuts from Amber at the same salon. Needless to say, I was really anxious (I was worried that at the other salon I had done a poor job of describing what I wanted and that was the reason I got the worst mushroom/shelf /'80s skater cut ever) so I printed out a bunch of photos and brought in a ton of magazine pages to show to Trish. Much to my relief, as soon as Trish saw the cut, she went, ""Oh! I see the problem."" Then she described to ME exactly what she was going to do, and it sounded like the haircut I had been wanting for so long. I didn't even have to show her any of my photos. A short time later, I had the perfect haircut. I was SO happy and relieved. I highly, highly , highly recommend Trish (and Emily, her assistant/associate). She gives you input, but also wants to make sure you get what you want. Emily even called a week later to make sure I liked the style -- when is the last time someone has done that for you? more

I loved the salon hated my hair/ hairstylist! I went to get my haircut and highlights and I decided to try Trish, she was so highly recommended on citysearch, but the result was awfull! She seemed extremely cocky and overconfident, but in the end my hair color was so ugly! It was actually GREEN! Then to top it off ,she gave me the worst razor haircut! It seemed that she kept wacking at it until I practically had no hair left. When I came back for a color correction, she tried to say her assistant used the wrong rinse and didn't bother to apologize or do much to fix it! First time getting my nails done here. The appointment time got messed up and when I arrived, on time, the manicurist (not even the one I booked with) informed me she was just about to walk out the door, (way to make me feel welcome). I felt rushed the whole time. I got the aromatherapy french manicure, real nails. What was so aromatherapy about it I don't know. When she put me under the nail dryer she paractically had her foot out the door. My white has bubbles in it and the edges stop before the edge of the nail. Maybe if she didnt have to fill in for someone or if the appt setter got the time right things would have gone better, but I wont try again to find out. Pros: Very nice building and decor. Amber omg don't get me started on her. She is unbelievebly ultra sweet. I'm not saying everybody isn't. It's just that she shows compassion and boldness. I luvvvvv her! If you ever wanted your hair done by the best, the ""Rock Star"" of the hair world, your search has ended in Houston Texas with Trish. Fabulous personality, great looks and awesome talent, this femme fatale has it all. I did not know what to expect, being a recent member of the middle aged ""invisible"" group, but I am invisible no more thanks to Trish. Honest, straight shooting, talented and KIND! I read a lot of spectacular things about this Trish Lecourias, and decided to see what the raves were about. She has an edginess about her and style that I have never seen (at lease not here in the states). Trish gave me a great style and block coloring that was specialized for my cut. When I was processing Casey Curry from channel 13 was sitting in her chair and I over heard Casey telling her that she gets tons of emails praising here new do!!! You have to get in to see this ball of energy in action. She is very well educated, and a beauty to look at. more

I have tried A LOT of salons in town - from the most expensive to the walk-in - and i never really found anyone that I loooooved until now. Amber at The Upper Hand is awesome! I looove my hair everytime and I don't even have to give very much instruction. She hears what i say then makes it better and she's fun to talk to so you don't get bored! more

I have been going to Josephine for a couple years since she was at Bella Rinova, which was a very stuffy enviroment, but now that she is at the upper hand, I absolutely love it. She always gives me the best color and cuts I LOVE HER AND I LOVE HER NEW SALON! If you're looking for a hip enviroment along with a great stylist you should give her a try. I highly recommend her. My husband and I moved down here from up state New York: looked on the Bumble and Bumble website and found The UPPER Hand. Then found the website on citysearch to get the number and found reviews on TRISH. Now, this girl is talented. I evacuated to Houston due to Hurricane Katrina from Louisiana. Feeling not so pretty and under the weather. Went to The Upper Hand Salon were Trish made me feel beautiful! Being a Licensed Stylist myself but not practicing at this time, she gave me one of the best hair cuts of my life. I have been a stylist hopper for many years bc i couldn't find someone that knew what i wanted. i was recommended to upperhand by a friend and found trish's name listed here. i figured why not. SHE IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! i didn't have a picture. all i did was tell her what i wanted and she exceeded that 10 folds. i have never spent as much on my hair. i just finished school. but it was the best money i ever spent. so good that i left her a $45 tip. i went out right after my haircut and i walked into a happy hour where literally every good looking man there stopped and stared at me. i got cut and highlights in 2 hours and she so talented in both. I've been seeing Trish since December when I booked an appt. with her for a haircut based SOLEY on her reviews on Citysearch.com. I had high expectations, and she did not let me down! She is an amazing hairstylist. She trained in Germany and New York and her experience shows. She is adorably cute and personable. GREAT ""chair side"" manner. This was the best haircut I've ever gotten and I didn't need another cut for 2 months. I love Trish! I got color done by her 2 weeks ago and it's amazing. Her prices are great (believe I pay $50 for a haircut) and the salon is fantastic. It's like a shopping boutique/salon all in one. You simply have to give Trish a try. You won't regret it. I decided to make an appointment with Trish since she had all great reviews, and now know what all the hype was about. She is amazing, I really wanted a change but didn't know how to discribe what I wanted. I trusted her and put it all in her hands. When she was finished, I looked as if I'd just walked out of a photo shot. HOT, HOT, HOT! I love my new do. She even touched up my makeup for my night out. Went with a girlfriend for mani/pedi. Owner/manager very nice, thought it would be a good experience. Maybe 9am is too early on Saturday for the ladies performing the services, but both were rude, unattentive, and acted like they would rather have been somewhere else. Did not have cuticles cut or hand massage. With all the competition in Houston for these services, they need to find a way to differentiate themselves with better customer service. I am new to town and thought I would google The Upper Hand since I am always at Deidrics Coffee Shop. I saw that Trish had alot of great reviews so I decided to make an appointment. She was so amazing with helping me with a new style; one that would look wonderful with my face shape. She has been New York trained, and I was facinated to learn she does extensions too! Carmella has been doing my hair for about a year now & I always leave the salon 100% satisfied. She makes my hair look amazing every time! She also gives me tips about how to keep it looking amazing & she really cares about treatment for my hair by telling me exactly which products I should or shouldn't use. The salon is a fun place to visit, it's in a fabulous little area. Also, Amy, one of the receptionists, is always so sweet & helpful. I will never go to another salon ever again! more
