If you want to travel to Chicago and save a lot of money on hotel prices, stay here. Yes, the room service is bad, yes the food is bad, yes the people are rude, yes the rooms are...

EXCELLENT! 11/9/2010

Location and the price was excellent. The food was very good and the breakfast was very reasonable. Staff was friendly and helpful with recommendations where to go, eat and shop. more

It's a great place 11/4/2010

Great old luxury hotel with large rooms and great views if you reserve a lake view room. (I upgraded when I got there.) It doesn't have the flash of the new, modern competitors, but instead the patina of old world elegance that reminds you of a different era, It's a great place to slow down the pace and walk to nearby Millenium park to enjoy music, sunshine, etc. Would have stayed again later in August but it's sold out!! more

Great old luxury hotel with large rooms and great views if you reserve a lake view room. (I upgraded when I got there.) It doesn't have the flash of the new, modern competitors, but instead the patina of old world elegance that reminds you of a different era, It's a great place to slow down the pace and walk to nearby Millenium park to enjoy music, sunshine, etc. Would have stayed again later in August but it's sold out!! more

As for location, the Congress Plaza cannot be beat. Situated in The Loop on Michigan Avenue, you are literally within 1 or 2 blocks from: Lake Michigan, the El Train depot, the Art Institute of Chicago, CVS Pharmacy, Buddy Guy's Legends Blues Club and great food. (Hint: Go to the CVS on State St. to purchase a 3-day EL Train pass.) more

Splendid 9/29/2010

What a splendid way to experience Chicago for the first time! My mother and I recently stayed at the Congress Plaza Hotel on my first trip to Chicago and we fell in love with the hotel right away. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional at all times. The hotel decor and architecture hearken back to an age of polish and class. From the beautiful lobby to the gleaming marble floors and staircase, I was very pleased. We shared a room with 2 kingsize beds on the 12th floor. The view from our room was superb. The beds were comfy and clean, as was the entire room. more

I am honnestly surprised that this hotel doesn't rank higher...I guess that just speaks to the generally high quality of hotels in the windy city! This place has to be my favorite though -- great rooms, generous amentiies, killer location,incredibly helpful staff, and superb value! I MUCH prefer it to the nearby Palmer House hilton (which is compartitively very cramped and cheap (charged me $15 a day for the coffee maker!))-- which bewildering ranks so muh higher. This is way better!!! more

This hotel could not be in a better location and for the price it was one of the best values in Chicago. The hotel has charm (it is an older hotel) but it is well maintained and the beds were fantastic and there really wasn't anything negative about the stay.
