Great solid place, never disappointed with the chef. more

Amazing food and fabulous service! 7/27/2011

This place exudes class. The wait staff was extremely courteous, on point and attentive. The food was absolutely amazing. Mouth-watering foie gras atop a large scallop with two types of sauce and a juicy, cooked to perfection filet mignon wrapped in bacon with an oyster in the center, atop a bed of spinach and scalloped potatoes. Drinks were divine, ambiance was perfect, all in all a fantastic evening! You will surely enjoy this dining experience. more

Very Disappointed 8/29/2009

I visited this establishment on a recent Thursday evening by reservation. The Brooklyn is a good restaurant. Having said that, there are many things to bear in mind when you walk through the door. Every effort is made to present an upscale appearance; from valet service, to full oyster bar, extensive wine and liquor menu and smartly dressed staff, elaborate plate presentations and high prices. Despite the facade, however, I was disappointed at every turn through the evening. The waiter, who at first was affable, attractive and accommodating, became less and less so through the evening, even spilling the better part of a scotch sampler all over the table. I ordered a Basil Gimlet, which was surprisingly good, and felt it a good omen for the meal; I was wrong. The restaurant was loud, making comfortable conversation difficult. The appetizers (caprese salad and Ahi Tuna Tar Tar) were elaborately presented, but were difficult to share (small). Moreover, the Ahi Tuna was of poor quality (tough and stringy). This did not bode well for my dinner entree, for I had requested for their seared Ahi Tuna, which had been described as ""sashimi grade"" by our waiter. However, the fish I received was of the same poor quality as the appetizer, and was attended by an underwhelming sauce and vegetable side and a strange, not entirely appetizing herbed noodle. I chose their creme brulee for dessert, which was good, but the price was inconsistent with the quality. I guess this is the underlying theme to the entire meal, mediocre quality for gourmet pricing. I was not paying the tab, so I felt it inappropriate to complain, but I would have given the manager an earful if it had been my onus. There are too many good restaurants in Seattle to waste your evening and your paycheck here. Pros: good cocktail (basil gimlet) Cons: mixed service, mediocre food, high prices, loud more

Beware: They think having crawling things in your oysters isn't nasty, it's natural! 2/13/2009

The Brooklyn was a long time favorite -- so much so that I brought all my friends and family there and even went for a few of my birthdays. No longer. Tonight, there were creepy crawlies on the oysters. (Can't post any words that would alert the authorities on this website.) Once we complained, we were told they are ""natural"". They eventually comp'd the check -- but that was after my mother and girlfriend were pretty visibly disgusted. I don't think they even inspected the oysters to be sure they could continue to serve them to the rest of the guests. So, if you ate there tonight -- you might have gotten some unexpected protein... more

Excellent service and the best steak I've had in ages 7/6/2008

We were unprepared on a recent visit to Seattle and did not have reservations on a Friday night, so we decided to take our chances sitting at the bar for dinner. It was actually a delight to be sitting in a place where we could people-watch while still absorbing the ambience, and also be able to take advantage of our bartender's (Cheston)conversation. He was very attentive, helpful and personable providing sound recommendations on what we should do on our visit to Seattle. We both had steaks, and the New York Peppercorn was a standout. It was tender and flavorful and I thought about it for days later. I am extremely happy that we took our concierge's recommedation to give The Brooklyn a try. Pros: Attentive service, ambience, steaks more

Don't use the valet parking, but otherwise good food and service. 3/8/2008

We went to Brooklyn's for the first time last night, and had a very enjoyable time. Roger is a first class waiter, and he enhanced our experience tremendously by explaining all the choices carefully, and entertained us all evening with little anecdotes and tidbits of information. Pros: Our waiter, Roger Cons: What else? The valet parking more

Everyone should go!! 2/29/2008

I was recommended by a friend to come here, so I did with my boyfriend! If you want fresh seafood, this is your stop. I still do not know what my dish was called, but there was a lot of fresh tender seafood. My boyfriend loved his steak and I was happy! Yes, it was pricey, but worth it. It was only $88 (including tip) for two without drinks. Not bad considering we got an appetizer, two main courses and dessert. Next time, I'm going to try the Oysters! I forgot to mention about the execllent attention we received from our waiter. Very attentive! Oh and the hostesses in the front were not only beautiful, but great! Pros: Attentive staff, excellent seafood Cons: parking is always a problem at any place. more

Worst service I've ever experienced 2/18/2008

We were excited to try the Brooklyn for the first time last Saturday evening - it was a special evening, celebrating two birthdays. The oysters were great, and the entrees were good. However, because of our waiter, it was a bit of a battle to actually get to the food and drink part of our experience. He was condescending and short with us the entire evening, starting the evening out by informing us how busy he was and that he didn't have time for this or that. It showed. He forgot to bring entire courses, neglected to remember that he'd taken a drink order (we often had to remind him 3x) and offered no apologies. It was busy that night, but my experience waiting tables is enough for me to know that there are many ways to let your table know that it's a bit hectic and still provide them with ample service without ruining their experience. Pros: Oyster selection Cons: Service, price for what you get more

mediocre food for a high price 7/29/2007

I went to Brooklyn with a friend the other day and was highly disappointed in the food. I got the Hawaiian Ono and my friend got a small crab dish; the presentation was fancy but the seasoning was off and the portions sparse. There are many better restaurants in the downtown area! Pros: ambience Cons: quality of food more

Consistently Great 7/4/2007

I've never been disappointed here. The seafood is always cooked exquisitely and the servers always very knowledgeable and friendly. The way the flavors work together really is heavenly. I've been going here for over 10 years and it remains my favorite. The interior is charming with lovely art deco features. This is a great place to go for a special occasion. Pros: Great location, decent value, Charming ambience, fantastic food Cons: parking, busy more

worst hostess in town-PERIOD!!! 7/2/2007

I have been living in Seattle for a long time. I used to go to this place and enjoy my dinner. Even though the prices are high, it used to worth it. Has anyone noticed this one particular hostess there?? She is definitely not this restaurants caliber. She is definitely foreign. I have nothing against foreigns but this one is special.. She has a this accent that I can't understand what she says, when you ask her again she gets lauder. She used to dress like as if she is going to a prom at least that part is fixed (well, a little). Here is my thing, the food is expensive, with that much of money, why don't you guys get someone professional on this job, not just anyone. Pros: good seafood Cons: worst hostess more

What happened to the great service? 4/3/2007

I love The Brooklyn, and have been going there for years. Many great nights have been spent there with my best friends over drinks and oysters. I have become friends with several of the staff, and the food is always wonderful (best clam chowder!). But tonight was terrible. My cousin just moved into the city, right next door, and so I recommended we go there for some drinks/food. The minute we walked into the bar we felt unwelcome - the waiter practically scowled at us when we sat down. I have never had a server be so rude in all my years. He literally told me to ""go hang out somewhere else."" I was so embarrassed and flustered, I just wanted to finish my drink and leave. He ID'd us (we are not even close to 21), told my cousin rudely that he could not read her license, and asked us if we were going to be driving. It was insulting and disrespectful. This night will make me think twice about ever going back. Pros: Food, Ambience Cons: New Staff more

The BEST waiter in Seattle - Roger at the Brooklyn 3/9/2007

I challenge you to find a better waiter in the city of Seattle than Roger at the Brooklyn. Ask for him, you will become a regular. He will attend to your every wish and enchant you with his charm and ability to match your desires to the fare - including matching oyster varieties to each person at the table. He will present your food as if he had prepared it for you himself. And he will entertain you with his style. The Brooklyn is fortunate to have him on staff and you will be lucky to have him serve you. He is gracious and generous in every way. It is not often in this world that you find someone who so truly loves his work. Pros: Comfort, elegance, superior service Cons: It rains in Seattle more

I second the motion that Roger is the best! 2/9/2007

Having gone to the Brooklyn for years, I recently brought a friend of mine in to impress. I thought we'd go casual, though and sit in the bar. The bartender seemed to be having an off night and was pretty much ignoring us. I spied Roger, and begged to be seated in his section. He saved our night. He is worth his weight in gold. This place is my stand-by for any mood, any appetite. It looks like a chain, but it's not. I have been dozens of times, for casual lunch, business lunch, casual dinner, fancy dinner, or just happy hour and have never been let down (though I actually agree about the buffalo Osso Bucco--it was so-so.) The venison appetizer I had recently knocked my socks off. My favorite entree is the halibut. Always tender and juicy, perfect preparation. I dream about it. I'm usually too full for dessert. Pros: Variety, consistency, overall value, valet parking, and Roger!! Cons: Not crazy about the Buffalo more

Why all the fuss? 2/7/2007

We sat at the bar for dinner before heading to Benaroya to see Cosby. The oyster shucking kept us entertained but that was it. We split a ceasar salad which arrived on a small plate. The lettuce was all yellow and arranged very sloppily. It did not look appitizing. We ate it but thought twice. I had the salmon which was dry but flavorful and my husband had Osso Bucco - buffalo. It was like a bland roast - very disappointing. We had positive expereinces in the past but were underwhelmed this time. Why return when there are so many great restaurants out there? Pros: Active bar - oyster shucking Cons: Food, Price more

Fancy but old school 11/21/2006

One of my favorite fancy lunch spots in downtown seattle. Everyone claims to have the best chowder in town, but this is definitely one of my tops. The service is typically great, although i've had a few waiters who wasn't attentive enough. The atmosphere is busy busy busy, but private thanks to high chaired booths and a low humming buzz from all the conversations bouncing off the walls/furniture. This place is definitely swanky, so you know it's pricey, but very much worth it. Every dish I've tried is delicious and nicely presented. Whatever you get, try the chowder! more

Great food and fun! Make reservations first! 7/31/2006

The service was great, we were seated right away with no wait and the waiter more

User review by vietate 4/22/2006

Great happy hour, just avoid event nights at Benaroya. Food is great and servers are attentive, however don't expect any sympathy from anyone if you don't have a reservation, especially the pretentious & often rude front desk. Got a large family that you want to take out, look somewhere else, unless you want to eat after 8:30 with grandma! Even if you call ahead, the likelyhood of being able to share the good food with friends is slim to none. Pros: Food, Happy Hour Cons: Parking, Front Desk, Reservations more

HAPPY hour 1/29/2005

we enjoy Brooklyn's for dinner but their happy hour is second to none! GREAT oyster specials and bar none... the best calamari I have ever had! Springrolls and drink specials are also top notch. A very nice place to go and enjoy something different than your traditional dining experience! One of our Favorite places in town! Pros: happy hour value, drink specials, freshness of oysters more
