Did the trick 6/23/2009

the nurse (practitioner, i think) and the doctor were very good, and took their time. the front desk is horrible, which is why they're not 5 whole stars... she overcharged me for a test that my insurance should've covered, but the doctor went and set her straight and she gave me a refund. i think if they got rid of the desk lady, they'd be a flawless place to go. the treatments themselves were very good and i was healthy again in no time! more

Highly Recommend 6/11/2009

I have had great experiences at this clinic. I have been several times over the past few years and have seen different physicians. All of the physicians are pleasant and appear to be genuinely concerned about the patients and the care they are giving. I will return when I need medical care and would highly recommend it to anyone in need of medical attention. Their prices are lower compared to other urgent care clinics I have been to. more

I would rather let a dog lick my wounds 3/9/2009

Recently I suffered an injury to my hand that required 7 sutures and was finally forced to seek help after it became infected. I went to Tx. Urgent care and was unfortunate enough to see Dr. Murray Duren. To say this man is unkind would be an understatement. He was cold, callous and cruel to the point of borderline vindictive or spiteful. He spoke down to his staff in front of me and the PA even warned me that the Dr. would yell at me (this being because I had treated my own wound up to this point). I don't have insurance, I do what I can. Well he didn't exactly yell at me, but the way he talks down to you it's the same. And what he did do, was worse. He was so unnecessarily rough with my injury, it brought tears to my eyes. Rather than pause when this happened or try to be more gentle he just pushed on harder. I had to ask for a tissue when I could not stop the flow of tears. Now, I would think that no one likes to ask for pain medication because it makes you feel awkward, or at least it does me. Even though I had told him this wound was causing considerable pain, when I did ask for something, he literally shamed me and told me that "THIS injury was 13 days old; he would NOT give me anything! I could take Ibuprofin!" YES, this injury was 13 days old and I had been suffering through it that entire time! Let me tell you, Ibuprofin doesn't always do the trick. Especially when use use your right hand all of the time and have to wear/change gloves 30 times a shift. He treated me like I was a junky asking for drugs, adding insult to injury literally. And even though he was informed that money was an issue and that antibiotics were very hard on my system, he wrote a script for a drug that generic cost over $60. The pharmacist put a call back to their office to offer some alternatives. He did not return the call for 45 min. and she finally had to call back again. I spent 2 hrs. waiting to get my script filled and he still ignored her suggestions & chose a drug that was incredibly hard on the stomach. more

Good clinic 10/6/2008

This is a minor emergency clinic. It is good for what it is. I took my son there for a dog bite and they treated him well physically. The male nurse was entertaining. more

Unbelievable 10/22/2007

When Texas Urgent Care first opened I could not recommend it to enough people. Dr. Durren was so sweet and actually gave a hoot about what his patients were feeling. Over the past two years it has steadily gone down hill. I understand being in private practice for a couple of years can callous a person -- but Dr. Durren just in general does not seem to care anymore about anything. Every time I go in it seems there's a whole new contingency of people running his office. First sign things aren't going well. The last time I was there I waited for two hours only to be told it would easily be a three hour wait before anyone could see me. Instead of slamming any one person I will simply say the old gray mare just ain't what he use to be. more

Very bad. 12/21/2006

Having chronic pain is always a challenge. At one point I was going to Austin Pain Associates for the problems I was having (wrote a review on them too). After sometime, I was feeling much better, and as a result started to lower my medication intake until I completely quit. Pain gone for a few weeks. Well, my pain started up again, gradually. Having been in severe pain for 6 days, I contacted Austin Pain Associates only to be informed that they were booked solid for 3 weeks (even though I was an existing patient). I needed some relief while I wait for my appointment date to come up. I went to Texas Urgent Care. I waited a full hour even though there were no other patients there. No problem. However, I saw Dr. Murray Duren who was less than sympathetic. After a brief physical exam, and a review of my medical history with Austin Pain Associates and other paperwork that I brought forth, he informed me that there was nothing he could do other than to advise me to take ibuprofen. I asked, "do you think I'm a drug seeker or something?". His response, "Well, I've practiced medicine for 24 years, and I'm certain that you are not a drug seeker". Confused, I reply, "Well then what's the problem?". Dr. Duren, "My problem is medicare. Medicare doesn't pay enough for the services offered. If you want medical treatment, find a better insurance provider". At this point, I'm really ticked off. Attempting to use logic, I question, "But you accept medicare. If you agree to take new medicare patients you should provide them with medical services". He tells me, "Look, I don't know why you're on disability, but here are the facts; medicare and social security are going to fail when the baby boomers get on the program. You won't be able to rely on it anymore and I won't have to deal with it." I'm really not interested in discussing politics at this point, but I debate with him that it doesn't make sense for him to believe that I'm in pain, believe that I have a legitimate problem (and how could he not with so much evidence supporting exactly what I'm telling him), but then refuse to treat me based on some political principle. He relents by his agreement to refill my elavil. I explain that elavil helps prevent the pain but not relieve existing pain. He agrees with me. I ask, "well then, what over the counter medicine could I try." to which he responds, "nothing at all. But hey, I'll give you a referral to another doctor." I explain that finding doctors that take NEW, MEDICARE patients is a challenge. He tells me, "well that's your problem". So still in pain, I go home, crying from pain. I go to the website and see that this doctor is not only a practitioner at the clinic, he's the founder, president, and CEO! Furthermore, there is a link from the Texas Urgent Care website to a Christian ministry that does medical and dental services in Latin America, complete with photos and opportunities to make donations. So this guy goes and offers free medical services in Latin America, but refuses to treat my pain because I'm on medicare and they don't pay enough. I'm going to picket this clinic. As soon as I have a day where my pain subsides (probably when I get to go into Austin Pain Associates in three weeks time), I'm going to picket with signs and flyers. more
