I would rather let a dog lick my wounds 3/9/2009

Recently I suffered an injury to my hand that required 7 sutures and was finally forced to seek help after it became infected. I went to Tx. Urgent care and was unfortunate enough to see Dr. Murray Duren. To say this man is unkind would be an understatement. He was cold, callous and cruel to the point of borderline vindictive or spiteful. He spoke down to his staff in front of me and the PA even warned me that the Dr. would yell at me (this being because I had treated my own wound up to this point). I don't have insurance, I do what I can. Well he didn't exactly yell at me, but the way he talks down to you it's the same. And what he did do, was worse. He was so unnecessarily rough with my injury, it brought tears to my eyes. Rather than pause when this happened or try to be more gentle he just pushed on harder. I had to ask for a tissue when I could not stop the flow of tears. Now, I would think that no one likes to ask for pain medication because it makes you feel awkward, or at least it does me. Even though I had told him this wound was causing considerable pain, when I did ask for something, he literally shamed me and told me that "THIS injury was 13 days old; he would NOT give me anything! I could take Ibuprofin!" YES, this injury was 13 days old and I had been suffering through it that entire time! Let me tell you, Ibuprofin doesn't always do the trick. Especially when use use your right hand all of the time and have to wear/change gloves 30 times a shift. He treated me like I was a junky asking for drugs, adding insult to injury literally. And even though he was informed that money was an issue and that antibiotics were very hard on my system, he wrote a script for a drug that generic cost over $60. The pharmacist put a call back to their office to offer some alternatives. He did not return the call for 45 min. and she finally had to call back again. I spent 2 hrs. waiting to get my script filled and he still ignored her suggestions & chose a drug that was incredibly hard on the stomach. more
