Superior Service 7/26/2009

We had dinner reservations here which we were forced to miss because of car troubles....We did catch the show and after, while waiting for a tow we decided to have a cocktail at Teatro. We were laughing with the bartender about our adventure filled night and how we ended up splitting a burrito on the side of the road for dinner. She mustve gone to the owner/manager because he came out with a beautiful antipasti on the house. He also checked in several times and hoped we would come back to dine. The food/drink we did have was marvelous I can't say enough about the service going ABOVE & BEYOND. Thank you to the female bartender who worked 7/25 and the owner/manager. It really made a bad situation more pleasant and we look forward to coming back! I am also spreading the word as I think GREAT service does not get as much press as a bad experience. Pros: The customer is EVERYTHING, Excellent Drinks more

Nice place, Worst Service EVER 11/20/2008

Me and another 3 friends went to Teatro for dinner on Friday night. Upon arrival, a young lady asked if we wanted sparkling or still water; We ordered sparkling so she came back right away with that. 5 Minutes after that a young guy with the same uniform (black T-shirt and jeans) came by to tell us he'd be right back with us. 5 minutes later he took a drink order which did not arrive to the table after 25 minutes. He'd come by periodically to tell us the bar was really busy but working in the industry in a bigger restaurant with a way busier bar I know it is impossible for a bar to take 30 mins. to make a drink. After dropping our drinks the server just disappeared for more than then minutes although we were ready to order; The full dining room seemed full and I only saw 3 servers on the floor. I could see the manager hanging across the dining room the whole time chatting with people at the same table the entire time I was there and I recognized one of the people sitting at that table was one of the bartenders from Mistral (Owned by the same people). Pros: Nice location and decor Cons: Awful service and management more

Best Seafood Stew Ever Tasted 9/19/2008

Well, after years of thinking that Teatro could not be any more perfect with their delicious menu, they have outdone themselves. Two weeks ago the chef featured a Mediterrean Seafood Stew on the menu as a special. It was so delicious I talked about it to friends for days afterward. The freshest combination of seafood, included striped bass, scallops, shrimp, littlenecks, calimari simply done in the most perfect broth of tomatoes, fresh herbs, and garlic. Topped off with two spears of toasted bread topped with an amazing aioli. It was truly a lick your plate experience. I have been a Teatro regular for the past few years and truly think it is one of Boston's best restaurants and is my personal favorite. The mussels appetizer is another dish I order on every visit, served out of the shell in an amazing cream based broth with smoked tomato, garlic, and pesto. It is off the charts, delicious. Since I have eaten my way thru the whole menu, I can tell you with absolute conviction there is no bad choice at Teatro. The wait staff and bus staff are always friendly, professional, and efficient. The GM, Michael personifies a Four Seasons level of customer service management style. Always friendly, attentive, and when needed delivering food to tables during the the frequently busy evenings. On my last visit, The new seafood stew special was magically on the menu that evening as a special. Coincidence or design, not certain. Only certain that I can't wait to go back to Teatro. Pros: Menu, quality of food, service, valet parking Cons: Can get noisy at times. more

Nice decor, good service 8/10/2008

My wife and I went to an early (6:00) dinner at Teatro. At that time, it was very quiet with maybe only 4 other tables seated. By the time we left, it was about half full. We got the calamari appetizer that was very good. My wife liked her shrimp and pasta very much. I got the fettucine with peas and prosciutto which was good, but not great. Desserts were also good. The service and atmosphere made the meal worthwhile. The food, while good, was not the best part of the evening for me. Pros: Service & Atmosphere Cons: Mistake with my drink order more

Good food, service and atmosphere did not meet expectations. 3/26/2008

I work in the restaurant industry and give exceptional service so i expect the same when I dine in upscale establishments. My fiance and I were celebrating our two year anniversary. I requested a bottle of champagne for the table and our server never once acknowledged our special occasion, never introduced herself and was very unattentive. She walked by our dirty dishes numerous times and bread was served with the appetizers. After we finished eating the appetizers she walked by several times before taking our dinner order. When presenting us with the dessert menu she placed it at the table and quickly walked away. It was just very unimpressive and a letdown as far as the service. The food however was an 8 out of 10 and I was pleased with the martini and wine selection. I wish there were more dessert wines and ports. Overall I don't have too many complaints. Request a booth, the tables and chairs were odd. Cons: service was terrible more

Used to be better 10/1/2007

I used to really love this place when going with my girlfriend before a show or with clients. It is very nice inside and the service is very good. However, the food has gotten much more average over the past couple of years, which is dissapointing. I will agree with the best calamari statement though! It is a nice atmosphere but I wish that the food was as good as it was a couple of years ago.. more

Excellent appetizers, fun pulse, RELIABLE FOOD, wide choices of wine, good customer service 4/24/2007

Usually eat here a handful of times when I come up (from NY) on business. I have also returned when in Boston for personal trips. The food is reasonably priced, as it has quality ingredients well-cooked and well-seasoned! The salads are a good portion and the dressing is lightly coated! The calamari is THE BEST CALAMARI in Boston (IMHO) but the accompanying lemon dip is kinda gross (not my thing). All the pizzas are terrific - esp with sea salt - smoky (coal oven?) and thin makes for delicious, finger-licking goodness. The grilled sirloin is always solid. The pasta with bolognese sauce is hearty and filling, yet not too heavy. The pork chop (ask if they have it) is juicy and moist! The chocolate gelato (or is it sorbet?) tastes like if you froze nestlee quick chocolate milk. Yummmmm! Recently, I dined alone (biz trip) and my waiter was gracious, always checking on me, never making me feel conscious of dining alone (thanks, Omar!). Pros: Great ambiance, RELIABLE GOOD FOOD, easy to get an online reservation, good location Cons: Can be loud- but it's EQUALLY fun for a big group or a romantic dinner!! more

Great Theatre District spot!!! 1/24/2007

I was skeptical about eating in a place in the Theatre District that included a reference to the theatre, but it was NOT a disappointment... The manager, David, was wonderful immediately upon entering and it was consistently great from that point on. The bar's pretty small, however, so make a reservation. Pros: food & service are fantastic Cons: small bar and hard to get in on the weekends more

Not worth the money 12/14/2006

A friend and I decided to have dinner at Teatro before going to The Nutcracker; out of all the restaurants within proximity of the Opera House, it seemed like the best choice for our budget. The service was good. You could tell that the wait staff had been trained. But the food was mediocre and ultimately disappointing. The chicken milanese was just a slab of fried chicken with parmesan cheese on top with a huge side of bitter greens (and not easy to cut up with a dull knife!). Any $20+ entree should leave a better impression than that. We were treated very well by our waiter, up until the point that we received the bill. My friend and I split the check. I paid with a credit card, and she paid with cash. But he never brought us any change! He was presumptuous enough to give himself a $19 tip (over 20%), and he wasn't worth it. At that point we didn't have time to sort it out because we didn't want to be late for the show. So, needless to say, I wouldn't go back again. Pros: Close to theater district Cons: Too expensive for quality more

Our favorite restaurant 9/10/2006

Teatro is an excellent restaurant. The staff are unpretentious, friendly, you can be casually dressed, we have never ordered something we didn't like, and we go there almost every week. I highly recommend it! The only thing is that it is lively, so not good if you need a quiet, intimate space. Pros: Great staff, fast service, unpretentious Cons: none! more

Rediculously good service. 7/17/2006

While the menu and quality of food here was good, the service is what floored me. Everyone we met that worked there (and at least 4 people introduced themselves) was extremely knowledgeable and courteous. Truly professionals in their field. Pros: Service, ambience Cons: value, restroom accessibility more

Best Bolognese EVER!!! 3/19/2006

Drunk on St. Patricks Day (about 9pm) and NEEDING Italian food, the concierge at our hotel sent us here. It was beautiful, we were seated right away, and even tho I was still dressed for a pub and knocked over the host's podium when I walked in, they were still all very cool to us. Had the best, and I mean THE BEST bolognese I've ever had. The host, and the manager came by to see if we were loving our food (since it was their reccomendation to get the bolo.) and I wish I could go back SOBER sometime and enjoy it more!! = ) Pros: beautiful decor, Bolognese, staff more

Great experience New Year's eve 1/2/2006

With 200 reservations the service at 5-7:00 p.m. was superb! The waitress knew that VOX vodka was in fact top shelf vodka for a hot tub martini and also realized the difference between Pinot Nero and Valpolicello Chianti to recommend the Pinot Nero with the shrimp, tomatoes, and garlic which was perfect. The mussels were ""shelled"" in a smoked tomato and pesto sauce and toasted bread. This must have taken a considerable time of the sous chef, bravo!!! My husband and his friend ordered the smoked chicken lasagna with smoked mozzarella; and they are both beef eaters and spent the evening raving about how good the food was which made me happy and relieved. Better yet, the service was so good we were out in time to enjoy the fireworks that were displayed on the Boston Common for First Night at 7 p.m., terrific!!! Opentable for reserv. Pros: Great wait staff, Know the wine list, Know the menu Cons: Need a reservation, seatd near toilet 1st, Bad parking near park more

Wish the bar service was as good as the Food! 12/20/2005

Do not sit at the bar. The older woman is cold and unfriendly. She will only pay attention to you if you order food and a lot of wine. I go to Teatro with my wife, friends, and clients. I give plenty of business and in return just want to feel welcome regardless of how much money I am spending. There used to be an Italian girl there, who we were told has left. She always made my wife and I feel at home, that she enjoyed being our friend on top of being our bartender. Only sit at the bar if you see her, she will care. Pros: food, price, excellent waiters Cons: bar service, loud more

FOOD IS SOOOO BAD 11/8/2005

ive been to almost all the nice restaurants in boston. i chose this place for my 23rd bday. i celebrated with 20 friends, and the only dish that was good was the scallops. the decor and ambiance is great. the presentation of the food was not impressive at all. the beef and chicken were super dry. i got the shrimp pasta and there was so much pasta it looked cheap, no sauce, and dried shrimp. Pros: great decor, trendy, hip Cons: horrible food more

just okay 10/29/2005

loud, okay food, cool atmosphere, prob. woundn't go back from dinner, maybe a drink at the bar. more

Good but not great!! 6/21/2005

First of all regardless of what anyone says it's very very loud. You also have to sit in Chairs that are as uncomfortable as I've ever sat in a restaurant. That being said the wait staff was wonderful, and the food was good but not great. I am Italian as have been all over Italy and this place would not be in my top 50. You should not have to pay allot for good Italian food and with entrees that range between $17 to $30+ you are paying for location more than food...If you need to eat in the Theatre District this is fine if you don't mind noise but if not, go to the north end and you can find many places as good and better than this, and you won't need a hearing aid when your done. Trendy yes, all the ""beautiful People"" were there but great no. Pros: waitstaff, food, Ceiling Cons: noise , Chairs, price more
