Best

The food is the best thing about Teatro, and it also has a great atmosphere, and service. Pros: Service, and appetizers Cons: Closed Monday

Worst

Me and another 3 friends went to Teatro for dinner on Friday night. Upon arrival, a young lady asked if we wanted sparkling or still water; We ordered sparkling so she came back r...

Bella!!!! 4/19/2005

i own a home and was born in italy and the food at teatro was like being home. the anitpasta was amazing, the salmon was fresh and tasty, and the wine selection was impressive! beyond the food, the service was exceptional. our waiter was friendly and welcoming, there was always someone to get me what i needed, and the place was alive on a wednesday night (even the hostess was beautiful and friendly). i felt at home and would highly reccomend teatro to anyone who wants an excellent dining experience. more

Best Dining Experience Thus Far! 4/17/2005

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed Teatro. The food was absolutely perfect. And the service far exceeded my expectations. There is no comparison of service at teatro to similarly priced restaurants - we're talking napkin folding, water refills, and crumb wipe ups right away. Perfect for vegetarians. I've been to Italy and the food at Teatro competes. Pros: Service, Ambiance, Great Pasta more

Best Meatballs, Worst Chairs 1/22/2005

Teatro had the most uncomfortable chairs I've ever sat in. My wife said she didn't notice (but that's because she sat on the padded wall bench) so we went again but this time she offered me the bench. Now she agrees with me. They are just the wrong shape so that you can never sit back and relax. They look groovy in their wavy translucent blue plastic finish, but they stink to sit in. The front management is outstanding! With no reservation and a two deep at the bar, he was still attentive and updated us regularly on getting a table. Even with theater goers he got us seated promptly. We also had the best meatball I have ever tasted. It was a wild boar meatball with a pasta ribbon and a meat sauce that just blended perfectly with the lightly spicy meatball. I can't recommend it enough. Pros: Appetizers, Service more

Delicious 8/14/2004

excellent food, service, atnosphere is great but a bit loud. The antipasto is a MUST have! Pros: wine, italian, antipasto more

So-so 7/30/2004

The best part about this place is the service. Our waiter was friendly, smiling and attentive without being overbearing. However, I was disappointed with the food. The salad with a vinagriette and gorgonzola was very bland. There were 3 tiny pieces of gorgonzola, larger than a pea but smaller than a grape. The spinach ravioli was quite tasty, however. My dining companion had the special appetizer - a fresh tomato and mozzarella salad - which she said was delicious, but a salad for $16???? And the biggest diappointment of all was the nonexistent dessert menu! Only sorbet and gelato??! The waiter graciously explained that their kitchen is small and they have no room for a dessert station. How about bringing desserts in from their sister restaurant Mistral?? Overall, a pleasant experience but I don't think I'll be back. There are much better restaurants in Boston. Pros: friendly waitstaff, beautiful decor Cons: , no dessert menu! more

Decent Food. Way too much noise! 6/6/2004

Went there this past saturday night. Food was ok. I agree with another reviewer's comment about the staff being all over the place trying to attend to everyone. They worked hard to compensate for the crowd and the fact that you have to SHOUT at each other to be heard. Won't go back. Unreal noise for a restaurant. Pros: Good food, Good service, Friendly staff Cons: , Crowded, Bad parking more

Very Satisfied 2/5/2004

My husband and I went to Teatro before attending the play ""The Graduate"" at the Colonial Theater. I have to say we got there around 5:30 and was sitted immediately. The food was very good. The waiter/waitress and water person were very catering and polite. I had the salmon and my husband had the prime rib. If you like white beans, I highly recommend the white bean soup for your appetizer. We're looking forward to going again. Pros: Romantic, Ambience, Food and Service more

Price for the location 2/2/2004

I went there for a late night dinner after a show in the theatre district. It was at a good location, close to the public transportation and all the actions in the area. The place was packed at 10:30pm, but we got a table in 15 minutes. It's a pretty chic place with unique ceiling. Tables are close to each other. It's definitely loud, but it's still OK for a conversation. The diners were relatively young and trendy. We could tell that there were quite a few dates going on. Service was decent. It seems that they didn't have designated waiter for each table. All waiters were just walking around helping tables. Food was not cheap, entrees range from $16 to $30. They were not bad, but definitely not as good as in North End. We didn't mind that much since we were really paying for the time and location. Pros: Location, Chic Cons: , Need to Waiting more

Great antipasto! 1/4/2004

They have the best antipasto appetizer I've ever had!! The wine and entree were very good as well. The service didn't match the quality of the food. I would highly recommend this place for small groups or a date. Pros: food, wine Cons: service, no reservations more

pretty good, but not the best 7/3/2003

Over all, it was a great palce to be. The place looks pretty hip, but at the same time, it's a very open, one large retangular space. Tables are very close by, which I felt uncomfortable about because people can ear each other's conversations. It's a hip place, not the most cozy, romantic place. The scallops entree I had was ok....but wasn't worth the price. It was very runny with water as if there was a cover over the finished entree because it was done so early. My date's steak was too tough. The appetizer choice isn't that exciting, but the antipasto was awesome. Pros: cool atmosphere Cons: seating delays more

Great! 6/12/2003

Less expensive than Mistral, Teatro has similar food and the same great service. I had the rigatoni with bolgnese ragu which was sumptuous, and my date had a wonderfully grilled swordfish filet. Prices were not bad and I would definitely recommend Teatro to anyone with a discerning palette. more

Hip!! 5/15/2003

Very hip addition to Boston. A variety of people from young professionals, celebs, etc. We made a reservation, but didn't get sat till about 45 minutes after our reservation time. We went on a cold winter night and everytime the door opened a wind tunnel shot through the restaurant, particularly through my table, since we were closest to the door. The food was excellent. The drinks (recommend the hot tub, I think that's the name), delicious!!!! A bit pricey but worth it for the wonderful food. Pros: Food, Near Theatre District Cons: Wind Tunnel more

Thank God for Teatro 5/12/2003

A sure fire winner if you ant toe at before seeing a movie next door at the Loew's Boston Common Pros: No reservations, food, ambience Cons: noise level, no reservations more

Outstanding! 4/14/2003

I have had only consistently excellent food at Teatro! The portions are tremendous, and the prices are utterly reasonable. Moreover, the food, is AMAZING. The best calamari ever tasted, fantastic grilled salmon, excellent chicken milanese, and perfect pasta bolognese -- we've never had room left to try dessert! All the entrees come with simple, elegant vegetables; the wine list is well-priced; the service is friendly. You MUST try Teatro! Pros: Great value, Location, Pre-Theatre Cons: Crowded, Loud more

beautifully restored and wonderful food 4/5/2003

There was about a 45-minute wait for a table, but the food was excellent. As you wait, you can admire the beautiful gilded moldings that the owners have restored (formerly covered by a drop ceiling). We had mixed results with the cocktails. We really liked the beef carpaccio and the unusual ravioli filled with spinach and mascarpone. The swordfish was also excellent. We hardly ever order desserts and there is not a big selection, but the black raspberry gelato and the apricot sorbet both got great comments. Pros: great food, beautiful decor Cons: small and crowded, uneven drinks more

Lose the Blue Lights 4/2/2003

For good Italian at fare prices Teatro gets it right. Wait staff is good, but needs improving. Bar could (should) be bigger to accomodate the wait times and more attentive. Don't care for the coat check being downstairs -the host/hostess- lose track of you once you go down there. Overall good value, but lose the blue lights-this is a fabulous space that works great on its own. Pros: food Cons: wait times, bar service, ambience more

great food in cool place 3/12/2003

Food was excellent, atmosphere was relaxed but cool. Manager Jeffrey is a class act! Pros: food, Jeffrey, service Cons: drinks were small more

Great meal, theather or otherwise 2/28/2003

My friend and dined at Theatro the other night and really enjoyed the experience. The best deal on the menu is the appetizer for two ($19), a special treat consisting of various authentic Italian antipasti. The menu states that it is for two, but it could easily be shared by four or more. The service was fantastic and despite the crowds the managers made not overtures to usher us out before we were ready. The atmosphere was fun and fresh, fitting well with the precedent set by other establishments in the Ladder District. Only drawbacks are the noise - the beautiful cathedral ceiling creates reverberations that can easily turn dinner into a shouting match. Also, the dessert list is a bit weak with only three options. Otherwise, Teatro really delivers. Good job! Pros: atmosphere, food, service Cons: noise, crowds, dessert list more
