On my recent trip to Manhattan, wanted to indulge in some fine cuisine so on Saturday we made reservations at Tao. Like everyone else has pretty much said, the wait is extended, n...

Overdone concept - between the Buddha and the DJ playing the most BORING and UNINSPIRED techno I think I've ever heard. But have to say it matched the food and the service! Noth...

HOT, HOT, HOT!! 11/21/2006

This place was great!! The decor and ambiance was incredible. Must try the seared scallops!! Nice crowd and good music. Pros: Ambience, Decor, lots of people more

Un-be-lieve-able Decor and Ambience... 11/18/2006

Great food and excellent service. Totally enjoyed myself and your quest will feel the same. Waiting for a table is quick, you'll be entertainment by much ""eye-candy"" while awaiting your table. Tao is well worth it. You will not be dissapointed. The food portions are huge, so arrive with an empty stomach and please save room for desert, which are absolutly decandet. Pros: GREAT GREAT DECOR AND FOOD(SO MUCH TO CHOOSE FROM MENU) more

Good food, Impressive design 11/16/2006

This place is big... really big. So, I would not recommend it to anyone in search of an intimate dining atmosphere. That said the food was good. Not incredible, but above average. Pros: Good Food, Cool Atmosphere Cons: Price, Noisy more

Energetic atmosphere, great place for dinner and drinks before going out 11/14/2006

Went here with a group of friends when my brother came into town. He loved it. The decor is fabulous. The food was great as well. They have a unique cocktail list. We had a great table on the balcony overlooking the main floor with a perfect view of the giant buddha. I had a great time. The saxophone player that traveled around, table to table, was a nice touch. My brother was visiting and was hoping I would have gotten to talk to him a little more. Our group kind of sat at the table, drank, ate, and when anyone felt like yelling, that is the only time we spoke! The music was so loud it is impossible to carry on any conversation. Pros: Atmosphere, decor, food Cons: Loud music more

fun 11/12/2006

i went with a group of girls and had so much fun. if you want a real new york restuarant experince then this is the perfect place. the food was great and the atmosphere is wonderful. its the perfect place to go with a group and share as much food as you can handle. there is also very good people watching. Pros: fun! Cons: expect a wait more

Loved it!! 11/12/2006

I was here about a month ago and loved everything I ordered, especially the sushi! It was my first time so the waiter suggested a few appetizers that were amazing! Pros: Great food! Cons: Even with a reservation i had to wait for a table more

so so 11/11/2006

It really a place for people who really like to look cool. Food was pretty good but not outstanding. for the amount of time that you have to wait, it's kinda a ""been there done that"" place. Be prepare to wait even with reservation. more

Great environment 11/10/2006

Wow... I can totally understand why everybody is raving about this place. I must say if you are planning to go in a big group of people, start reserving your seats asap. I've been dying to go to this place since summer, and I finally came here last week. The food was excellent, but pricey... I had the 12oz kobe beef filet, it was $88, it was good, but that didn't fill me up, I also had great appetizers, try the satay of Chilian sea bass, which I highly recommend, the rest... you can get it @ your local chinese rest. more

Sushi heaven but prepare to stress out your wallet 11/10/2006

A friend made me go saying we'd only have appetizers, but since one tiny dish of spring rolls is $14, we paid more than $60 each. Parting with my cash was hard but it was harder to leave. This place is utterly cool and the food is heavenly. I'd advise against the fried rice, but try everything else, especially the specialty sushi rolls. The plum wine was amazing, the best I've ever had without a doubt. Check it out, but be prepared to pay through the nose. Pros: Awesome buttery melt in your mouth sushi Cons: $ $ $ $ more

Taotinis go down like candy! 11/7/2006

Tao is always good for a see-and-be-seen night. The food is always top-notch and so are the drinks. Definitely try the fortune cookie dessert...you won't be dissappointed! more

Zen Food but w/o the noise 11/6/2006

Coming in from CA and the best of SF cuisine, we expected some culinary design and atmosphere when going to Tao. And we got much more. Pros: Food, drinks and clean Cons: Noise and long wait with a reservation (1hr +) more

not good for a date 11/2/2006

another one of those places with the obnoxious buddha thing going on. the food and drinks were only mediocre and you'd really expect more from the price they charge you for them!! music is really really loud and i was screaming to my date the entire time and could not carry on a conversation. don't believe the hype, it's not that great. Pros: drinks Cons: music too loud, long wait, bad service more

Great food! 11/1/2006

The food and atmosphere here are great. I suggest the sea bass, and any and all other sushi selections. i sampled close to everything on the menu and didn't have a bad experience with any of the choices. Also good for an occasional celeb/athlete spotting ;o) more

Insider tricks to Tao 10/19/2006

No reservation, then forget about the main dining room but...there is always a but...the best seats in the house are actually the outer bar area seats along the main wall. A friend and I plopped down and ordered full dishes from the menu and we were served in no time, plus we got to see all the happenings! Pros: We lucked up and got a great server from the bar and great drinks even for the non-alcholic set...they will mix up anything that you would like. Cons: Too loud, hard to hold a decent conversation more

rip off and no celebs 10/17/2006

i was told tao is a celeb hangout place. didnt see any. yes it was packed. yes it was pricey. Yes the service was slow. Yes the waiter forgot our drink orders. No im not goin back. Pros: decor more

Yes i Paid 10/12/2006

I am never going back to Tao simply cause after paying by bill i was jumped by the security and told that i didnt pay the bill. I was with 3 other business couleges which added to the ambaracement. After inquiring from the server they found out that i did pay. The food was just OK. the dessert was good. The Service and the management is really messed up. Pros: Dessert Cons: Poor Management, Security Issues more

Save it for the celebs 10/2/2006

I made a reservation here weeks in advance after reading about the restaurant pretty much every week is US magazine or People. My cousin and I went right on time and got seated within 10 minutes which wasn't too bad considering the place was absolutely packed. The atmosphere is very trendy but also very loud. Our waiter was helpful and the food was decent but nothing all that special. The good thing was they had us in and out in about an hour which is suprising for how busy they were. Unfortunatly, we didn't see a single celebrity! more

I LU T 9/28/2006

No matter wha ppl say... I Just loveee TAOOO.. It is my fav. hangout spot.. after work, on a date, feelin like a bum.. whateva the case is.. im goin to TAO Pros: PACKED.. If u are a ppl person Cons: NEED RESERVATIONS more

1 Hour late on Reservation, pour food quality, and begging for server to return 9/28/2006

My wife and I reserved a table at Tao this past week through our conceirge at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. We were told to arrive at 9:45 and we would be sat. So 10 comes and goes, 10:15, 10:30....finally we are sat at 10:45 with no apology whatsoever. So we sit and wait 35 minutes before our server arrives and he is UPSET for no apparent reason. We place our order and we do not see him for 1 hour! Our drinks were empty and we were so thirsty I had to get up and fill our drinks ourselves. Long story short - STAY AWAY - it's crowded, noisy, they do not honor reservations, there food is average, and their service is AWAFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more
