Great Happy Hour 10/10/2006

This is one of our favorite Happy Hours. Seating can be tough if you get there too late. The alpine martini is my favorite for happy hour drinks. I would love o know how they make the evergreen snowballs. Yes the burgers are good, (y an extra buck for additions to the regular minis) but don't miss the calamari and fry cones. more

Big Disappointment 6/6/2006

We went to Cascadia for my husband's 35th birthday. I had heard so many good things about it and was to try it. It started to go downhill as soon as we were seated at perhaps the worst seat in the house - right by the kitchen doors (which make loud, annoying noises when they swing open). Our waitress was friendly but didn't seem knowledgable AT ALL about the menu. She couldn't recommend anything. For an expensive, upscale restaurant, I expected recommendations, knowledge about the food and how the chef had prepared it, where the ingredients are from, etc. Nope. None of that. I felt like I was at Red Robin - especially with all of the waiters almost tripping over our table on their way to the kitchen - oh except that I was paying $90 per person. Also, we were sitting there for about 10 minutes before we even got to talk to the Sommelier. He was actually very knowledable and friendly and sent us some free sparkling wine for waiting. He was the highlight of the night. The food was good but for such a high price tag I would have expected a wonderful dining experience that included great service. more

Terrific Food, So-So Service at Cascadia 6/6/2006

My wife and I went to Cascadia last Saturday night for a birthday celebration (mine). We were seated at 8:30 and weren't waited on until about 8:45. Then it was another 10 minutes or so before we were served. Cascadia is a pretty expensive restaurant so I was more than a little irked with the way the evening was unfolding. Just in the nick of time, the sommelier arrived with two complementary glasses of sparkling wine coupled with the first course of the prix fixe we ordered. Better. The service from then on was good but not great. What we wanted was our server to act as a guide. Explaining a bit about each course, the choices of ingredients, the pairing of flavors, etc. Instead, we were just told what it was and to "enjoy". In short, we were pleased with the food but nonplussed by the service. more

Happy Hour Gem 4/13/2006

I went to this restaurant for happy hour (every night until 7pm). It was fabulous. It is located in Belltown on 1st Avenue. We sat outside since it was a nice evening and though it is noisy from street traffic there is a view of the water. The service was good and the food fantastic. You must try the mini-burgers that Cascadia is famous for. I also highly recommend the hummus with pita bread and the alpine martini. more

Happy Hour - good luck 11/17/2005

Yes, their slider burgers avail at Happy Hour are well known to be cheap and delicious - but gd is this place packed from 5-7 most nights. We've tried TWICE to at least get admitted for the privilege of paying our $3/per or whatever it is for their coveted little meat patties, and have gotten dinged both times. Go early or don't go at all, if you're trying to get in on the happy hour program. Or, better yet, go next door to the relatively quiet Bell Town Bistro and have theirs - they are pretty darn good, faster, and the beer selection is better. Just a tip. more

yuppie haven, but cheap burgers, 9/27/2005

Cascadia is decorated as the haven of the contemporary yuppie. During happy hour, smartly dressed professionals sip cosmos and martinis at the bar. But for the less sophisticated, Cascadia has the attractive offer in the form of one-dollar specialty burgers during happy hour. If you are on the budget, you can wear your shorts, t-shirt, plop yourself down at an outdoor table, and order five specialty burgers and an ice-T. You will walk away completely full and only seven or so dollar short. By the way, the burgers, with mushroom and bacon mixed in the tiny patties, are delicious. more

Not as great as you might think 8/30/2005

Most others on here seem to like Cascadia, but I think the food is really disappointing. I went for the $25 dinner special and had a steak that compares to, oh, Denny's maybe. You might be thinking, "What else does she expect for $25?" My point is that if Cascadia is going to participate in the $25 special, don't try and serve a really poor steak. Serve a really good pasta or something else. I also thought the service was really lacking. We waited for a long time between every visit from our server. I haven't been back since. more

Great food, great service and great presentation 8/29/2005

I hate restaurants that server you a large portion of good. It is sooo unappetizing. This place has a British chef, they have tasting menus but also regular entrees. The tasting menus are great. You get a variety of stuff and small portions that are very nicely presented. The food here is really really good. The melon soup was amazing, the ribs melted in your mouth. Definitely one of the better restaurants in Seattle. You do have to make reservations for this place. more

Not All New Belltown is Bad... 8/16/2005

As one of a crowd of new restaurants on 1st Ave in Belltown, it took a while to get around to Cascadia. Add in that it's a very un-casual looking restaurant, and it didn't seem like I place I'd be headed anytime soon. Then I heard about their one-buck-burgers, and had to check it out. Arriving during happy hour, I picked a seat at the bar, though it seems the sidewalk dining is pretty popular there. Despite my less than uppity attire, service was prompt and pleasant, though I think the bartender makes her long island with soda-water, instead of cola (bleck). The burgers are quite a step up from your average dollar burger, definitely putting local cheap-eats-fave Dick's to shame. Very thick meat, decent bun, fresh lettuce; some condiments cost extra, but they come in servings large enough to slather a half-dozen. more

Happy at Happy Hour 6/20/2005

I had heard from a friend that Cascadia had these amazing mini-burgers. So, a bunch of us went to try them out at Cascadia's Happy Hour. They were delicious and - only $1 each during the happy hour times (5pm-7pm). They also had great calamari for $2.50 and drink deals. We sat outside and the atmosphere was very relaxing. The rest of the bar menu was also very good with items such as raw oysters, skillet roasted prawns, artisanal cheeses, and vegetable chips. Cascadia did not get 5 stars from me because our server was rude. In my opinion (from having a career in restaurant management), a restaurant that nice should not have a server with such a poor attitude. With that said, it may have just been "one bad apple in the bunch." I have not been back yet to see how the other servers are - but I will go back soon for those great burgers. One more thing to note - the "Mock-Tail" menu (virgin drinks), is very pricey. One of my friends who came with us was pregnant and her "Mock-Tail" was about .50 less than the real thing. Very overpriced in my opinion. more

High end Seattle dinner for large group 5/2/2005

Cascadia was overall very good. The food and service was excellent. I gave a presentation at the Madrona Technology Advisory board and we enjoyed the upstairs room overlooking the restaurant. They were prepared for a presentation setup, although it was a little jinky to get the projector set up just right. Other than having the ordering process happen at the beginning of my presentation, things were very smooth and the waiters blended into the background. Everyone demolished their food which was classic nouveau American - mostly fish oriented - with a very nice yet understated presentation. more

$25 set menu rocks- not to mention happy hour offerings 10/20/2004

Apparently this restaurant used to be over the top with most dishes priced at $30 and the pre-fix menu at $120. Not anymore! I just had a great meal at Cascadia and I'll be back. The current $25 set menu is a play on the election- you have to pick the donkey selections or the elephant (actually they'll let you pick and choose from either party, phew). The portions for the set menu were healthy (for some reason I thought they'd cheat us)- great salads, a lovely entree (I had the free range chicken over lentils with chantrells and my friends had a snapper with sweet roasted chili peppers and home made hashbrowns). The main courses if you pick from the menu are pricey ($25-32) but the appetizers and the famous happy hour hamburgers are a good value. The topper for our election themed dinner was a "white house" dessert- literally a white chocolate white house that when you removed the top, inside there was a chocolate cake. Clever, delish and affordable. more

  • The Scene
With its warmly glowing bar and tranquil waterfall window separating the kitchen and dining room, this Belltown beauty exudes opulence, but with a refreshing absence of upscale pretension. Service is gregarious, yet unobtrusive, making it a proposal-worthy date spot or an ideal choice for high-end celebrations.

    The Food
The moniker refers to Chef Kerry Sear's focus on the lush area between the Cascade Mountains and the Pacific Ocean: All ingredients are drawn exclusively from this region. Tasting or prix-fixe menus are the best route for harnessing the most of the kitchen's creative output. The seven-course vegetarian option features successes such as the silky tofu "scallops" and crisp wontons with eggplant "caviar," while the three-course prix-fixe menu wins with robust grilled venison sausage and the cooling, sweet finish of hand-churned ice cream.
