First time I've been to this restaurant was 2006. I went there with my parents and we were kind of happy to spend two hours in this restaurant because people who work in this res...

After a dismal dim sum experience the day before, my husband and I were looking for a ""do-over."" We came across this bustling place and had high hopes. Overall, the food was o...

They treat their customers horribly! 0 Stars 5/17/2017

Tonight I witnessed an unbelievable act of Racism!!! We were eating at Sun Ya in the International District when an African American man walked in and asked to be seated. After he was seated and ordered food they asked him to "pre pay" ?? of course the man was outraged and asked if we or anyone else in the restaurant was asked to "pay first". He actually had to show them money before they would prepare his food and serve him... Unreal!!! This was a man that served our country in the US Army for 18 years ???? An individual that has a job, contributes to society but just so happens to be a minority. WTH... I have never in my life seen such public humiliation! Then the server tried to justify their actions to me... UNACCEPTABLE! NO EXCUSE EVER FOR THAT KIND OF BEHAVIOR!!! more

Good, but...... 8/25/2005

Sun-ya is a great restaurant that offers tasty dim sum. However don't be fooled by the food. Look at these listings that the Seattle Public Health Department gave the restaurant: -Food not protected from potential contamination during preparation, storage, display -Food contact surfaces not maintained, clean, sanitized -Physical facilities not properly installed, maintained, clean; unnecessary persons not excluded from establishment -Inadequate hand washing facilities -Plumbing not properly sized, installed, and maintained, improper backflow devices, indirect drains, cross connections present -Non-food contact surfaces not maintained, clean, sanitized. So... try of you dare... Let's just put it this way, my family stopped going there after reading the above. more

The best dim sum in Seattle 8/23/2005

No, I haven't been to every dim sum restaurant in Seattle, but how could anything be better? Start with the valet parking - not the most confidence - inspiring valet, but my car has never been damaged, so it's cool. You probably take more of a risk parking on the street. Next, I have never gone to Sun Ya and waited for a table - always immediate seating. As soon as you sit down, every cart is headed your way. In other places I've been to, the warm cart might come to you early on, but you're done with your sticky rice and fried seafood salad before the steam cart even makes it around. At Sun Ya, you often get all the food you want before you even get water and tea! The food at Sun Ya is also superior to anywhere else I have been, including a couple of highly-rated places in San Fransisco. My favorite is the shiu mai - unlike other places where the filling is ground up into mush, at Sun Ya, you can see and feel the whole or large chunks of shrimp! I also recommend the shrimp on green pepper, sticky rice in a bowl, and calimari. The price is right as well. My wife and I can go into Sun Ya on a Saturday around noon, after having not eaten breakfast, and load up with everything we want. We still get out for under $20 with tax, tip and a buck or two for the valet. If anybody has been to Sun Ya for dim sum and knows of a better place, please send me a message and I will try it out! more
