Continuing. Page 2... \r To make sure everyone has a good time. Our longevity as a karaoke club should speak for itself. Our goal is for everyone to have a pleasant time whether you are a good singer or not. However, even though, we are very pro active, there are some customers that you can't make happy, no matter how hard you try. For example, a reservation for a certain number of people, doesn't mean you can invite 20 or 30 extra, just because you already have a table. Then get upset that we won't allow your other guest to come in. Same thing applies for our dress code, our age demographics are from 21 to 80s, so we want to make sure that all guest are dressed accordingly. If an exception is made for one, then I know I'm going to be called out for it by someone else. I can go on and go, but I think I've made my point. Thank you. more

This used to be a very nice family-owned place, but unfortunately it is no longer an enjoyable spot to hang out. The drinks are horrible and extremely over-priced. The bartenders and waitresses are rude and unprofessional. And overall, this place is no longer an enjoyable. more

STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM MIDTOWN! 9/3/2011

Never been to the westheimer one but as for the one off MILAM in MIDTOWN- If I could give no stars I would... We thought the place was decent at first - until our party of 8 started talking and figuring out that the bartender (who was apparently the GM of the bartenders) was charging people different prices for the same exact drinks WITHOUT giving a receipt. When we confronted her about it she says that when one of us didnt tip on the FIRST DRINK that we ordered she started adding her own tip to the drink prices. When the owner was told of this by our group and he took her to the back and talked to her- she completely LIED about the whole thing and told him we had all not tipped her the entire night and told him we had had way more drinks than we had ordered up to that point to justify pocketing the money for herself (it was not even 12p). HELLO. With a party that large- usually tips are given at the end AND are usually QUITE generous- in our case anyways. THEN she proceeded to (very loudly and deliberately) tell all of the customers at the bar and the other bartenders/waitresses about it. BUT Needless to say we ALL closed our tabs and they WILL NOT be getting ANY of our (or our friends, coworkers, events, etc) business in the future. more

A group of friends and i went to SPOTLIGHT KARAOKE for a birthday happy hour/party. When we arrived, at 6 pm, we were told it was a $5 cover charge without a reservation. We notified the man at the door that we were told 3 weeks ago that no reservation was needed if not in a private room. We were told that this was 'wrong' and we needed a reservation or had to sit at the bar. After paying our covers and asking the waitress Christi/Chrissy/Christina, she found us a table. We told her it would be about 10 people. Once at the table we asked about happy hour prices. We were told that there was no happy hour. We pointed out a sign on the table that said 'happy hour 3-8 pm'? She replied that that was at the midtown location. I was perplexed as to why they would have a sign on all tables saying happy hour at a different location! She also added that they don’t not have draft, frozen drinks, and do not make mojitos. We then proceeded to ask drink prices. We were told the small drinks were $5, big drinks were $10. She then recommended the "watermelon long island ice tea,” It’s so good and lots of alcohol". I decided to order it. It was mediocre at best. We then asked for a food menu and were told that they do not serve food until 10:30 pm but if we wanted to go and eat somewhere, or have some pizza delivered, we could do that...so we proceeded to order pizza for delivery. We ordered more drinks, start signing, and more of our guests arrived. At some point, one of the birthday girls’ says that one of our guests is not being allowed into the building because we have 'too many people in our party'. She spoke with the manager and was told that "no, she can’t come in". I then went to speak to the manager, daughter of the business owner. I asked what the issue was with our friend not being allowed in. She stated that we did not have a reservation and have all these people here. I told her that there were still open seats at our table. She then stated that all tables were reserved and people paid money to reserve them and we were over our limit... i then notified her that we all paid a cover charge to enter and are sitting in the common area so how is that different? Everyone at the table had purchased over the 2 drink minimum, so how is this now a problem? She then repeated that we have too many people and "they (SPOTLIGHT karaoke) were over their limit". I proceeded to point out to her that the main floor was less than 50% occupied, so how are they over their limit? She replied “don’t shout at me”. I almost looked around to see who she was talking to because we were both speaking at the same level. She then repeated that she was not getting in. I asked her if the bar was reserved and she replied "no”. "So why can’t my friend sit at the bar?" Her reply was “because she is going to leave the bar and go over to your table". I told the manager that everyone at 'the table' was buying drinks and paid a cover and if she was telling me that they (spotlight karaoke) are not trying to make money? She repeated that my friend was not getting in. I told her that if that’s the case, then we all can leave, and she replied, "That’s fine with me". more

Not Impressed 3/14/2011

This is my second time here. Not happy Prices are OVERPRICED! DJ has a very unpleasant attitude. He must be the owner's son or something. He acts like he doesn't want to be there and doesn't want to communicate with you. Had to wait a terribly long time to sing and room was not packed. On my second time out Female owner at the front was unnecessarily rood. I will not be back! was thinking about having my birthday party at a karaoke spot. It will not be here. more

OVERPRICED DRINKS - HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - RUDE DJ 1/10/2011

I have been a customer at Spotlight for 6 or more years. At one point, this was a very enjoyable spot. Now it's all about making money. Drinks are $ 8 and up and they are watered down. I spent $ 25 for not even an hour and its hard to get on the stage. The rotation is horrible. They tell you that you are in rotation ; however, people that walk in the door are seen on the stage even though you were in rotation 30 minutes ago. The DJ is usually rude and seems racist. So does Mr. Lees wife. Its like i frequent this place a lot however im not greeted as a frequent customer but like a stranger thats being watched to see if youre spending money every two seconds.. still you dont get on the stage if you do . This place is supposed to be a family owned business but not a family owned environment. Does anyone know of any other Karaoke hangouts. Im just hoping that another bar opens up soon. I don t feel appreciated at this one! more

Annoying 7/29/2010

I've been to this place and thought it would be a good to have a gathering. I wanted to rent a room or make floor reservations and got the worst service. The rooms have minimum tabs and were booked, so no problem. I thought I would just invite a few girlfriends and reserve the floor. . So I print out the contract and reserve for 6 people and fax it in. Then I get an email saying they need my credit card info. When I call and remind them of what's on THEIR "contract" (that 10 or more must be confirmed prior with a credit card and oh, if you're not there before 10 pm they can still give your seats away), I get a blow off email saying people reserving for less than 10 and not showing up is hurting their business. Please... with the crowds and drink prices, I seriously doubt that. Get it together Spotlight or change your "contract" terms to reflect your business practices. So annoying. It's too easy to go elsewhere with way better service in this economy. Pros: None Cons: Business Practices more

Fun place to be...regardless the day of the week! 8/23/2008

I do not call myself a "regular" ..but every time i go out with my girlfriends and get bored at a bar...we end up at spotlight. We always have a great time there, regardless if we are in a private room or outside on the main floor. sometimes, the KJ seems a little bit annoyed but i can understand, im sure all the customers have all asked him..."when is it my turn?" sometimes people dont think, its about 4 mins song multipled by the amount of people (assuming everyone turned in a song)...then it would be my turn. its common sense. and the shots are huge! and the drinks are strong! i can go to slicks next door and have to drink 5 crown and cokes to get a good buzz when i can have 2 at spotlight. the drinks are at an average price of what it would be downtown. its not big deal because when people go out they should be looking to spend some money...if you are looking to spend next to nothing but want to get drunk, then stay at happy hour. this bar is also a great social scene. ive met so many different people here...from carlos lee to owen daniels to the plain old joe. i see everyones complaint on drink prices and blah blah...then IN MY OPINION... YOU should STAY AT HOME. quit crying and have fun! spotlight is a wonderful place to get drunk and sing some karaoke...and everyone knows karaoke is fun. Pros: Fun place, always a delight Cons: parking more
