A group of friends and i went to SPOTLIGHT KARAOKE for a birthday happy hour/party. When we arrived, at 6 pm, we were told it was a $5 cover charge without a reservation. We notified the man at the door that we were told 3 weeks ago that no reservation was needed if not in a private room. We were told that this was 'wrong' and we needed a reservation or had to sit at the bar. After paying our covers and asking the waitress Christi/Chrissy/Christina, she found us a table. We told her it would be about 10 people. Once at the table we asked about happy hour prices. We were told that there was no happy hour. We pointed out a sign on the table that said 'happy hour 3-8 pm'? She replied that that was at the midtown location. I was perplexed as to why they would have a sign on all tables saying happy hour at a different location! She also added that they don’t not have draft, frozen drinks, and do not make mojitos. We then proceeded to ask drink prices. We were told the small drinks were $5, big drinks were $10. She then recommended the "watermelon long island ice tea,” It’s so good and lots of alcohol". I decided to order it. It was mediocre at best. We then asked for a food menu and were told that they do not serve food until 10:30 pm but if we wanted to go and eat somewhere, or have some pizza delivered, we could do that...so we proceeded to order pizza for delivery. We ordered more drinks, start signing, and more of our guests arrived. At some point, one of the birthday girls’ says that one of our guests is not being allowed into the building because we have 'too many people in our party'. She spoke with the manager and was told that "no, she can’t come in". I then went to speak to the manager, daughter of the business owner. I asked what the issue was with our friend not being allowed in. She stated that we did not have a reservation and have all these people here. I told her that there were still open seats at our table. She then stated that all tables were reserved and people paid money to reserve them and we were over our limit... i then notified her that we all paid a cover charge to enter and are sitting in the common area so how is that different? Everyone at the table had purchased over the 2 drink minimum, so how is this now a problem? She then repeated that we have too many people and "they (SPOTLIGHT karaoke) were over their limit". I proceeded to point out to her that the main floor was less than 50% occupied, so how are they over their limit? She replied “don’t shout at me”. I almost looked around to see who she was talking to because we were both speaking at the same level. She then repeated that she was not getting in. I asked her if the bar was reserved and she replied "no”. "So why can’t my friend sit at the bar?" Her reply was “because she is going to leave the bar and go over to your table". I told the manager that everyone at 'the table' was buying drinks and paid a cover and if she was telling me that they (spotlight karaoke) are not trying to make money? She repeated that my friend was not getting in. I told her that if that’s the case, then we all can leave, and she replied, "That’s fine with me".
