Best

I just moved back after being gone a year to find out that Sparrow is closed and replaced with a horrible horrble pizza place.............what in the world happened! Pros: Eve...

Worst

Sparrow restaurant couldn't be more appropriately named. Considering the miniscule portions in relation to the prices, this is not a place I'd return to. The ambiance was nice but...

perfect sunday 8/9/2005

not many restaurants are open sunday nights, so we were pleasnetly surprised to find sparrow bustling on a perfect evening. We started with the tuna wrapped tuna, and wanted to have another it was that good. The spicy mussels are the best in the city. Then we had hawaiin swordfish - which tasted like it had just come from the ocean - and a filet which puts most steakhouses to shame. Sitting on the patio, listening to live spanish guitar, sipping excellent wine...it was a perfect sunday. more

Signed Up Just To Review 8/7/2005

First, I would like to say that I signed up for a citysearch account just to review this restaurant because I was so disappointed. A friend recommended this restaurant and I was shocked at how poor the food was. The heavy, overpowering sauce still didn't have the kick to mask the old fishy flavor of the black bass. The gnocchis' texture was mushy and the taste even less appetizing. The salads were acceptable, but basically pre-packaged baby greens spruced up a little. I would strongly discourage a trip to this restaurant and instead make a trip to one of Denver's other many fine restaurants (I was stuck eating a Lean Cuisine meal to satiate my hunger upon returning home). Cons: Poor food, Overpriced more

Sparrow is remarkable! 6/26/2005

I visited Sparrow with my husband on our trip to Denver and it was truly a wonderful dining experience. Their tapas were exquisite in taste and presentation. Our server was friendly and very prompt. His recommendations were helpful in our selections. Having been to many restaurants in the U.S.A., this one has to be among the top 10. The prices are reasonable, the food is great, the location is cozy and provides for an intimate setting, and the portions are good. Thank you Sparrow for making our dining experience a pleasurable one. Your new Chicago fans! Pros: food, service, location more

Patio Perfect!!! 6/16/2005

It's was a gorgeous night, the temperature perfect and we couldn't have picked a better spot to enjoy it. Sparrow's patio overlooks the park whichis the perfect back drop to enjoy a perfect meal. Sparrow's wine list is eclectic and we were able to sip without feeling rushed before we ordered our dinner. The caprese salad and tuna ap were fantastic - the perfect segue to a delicious boulliabaise and Zuni chicken. We already have plans for next week! Pros: outdoor seating, friendly staff, beautiful interior more

Nice Bar & Snacks 6/15/2005

The dinner entrees are less than average, and the dinner service is too slow, but their snack plates and the bar are very good. Nice place to meet for drinks and appetizers before heading to another place for dinner. Pros: snack plates, bar, location Cons: too loud, dinner entrees, service more

Excellent Small Plates 6/13/2005

My husband and I have been here several times. We have always really enjoyed the small plates offered, especially the tuna. The entrees have been good-average. I would highly recommend this place for drinks and appetizers, maybe grab your dinner somewhere else. Pros: decor, friendly staff, great tapas Cons: can get loud more

Amazing Ambiance 6/1/2005

We had such a great time at Sparrow. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, comfortable and relaxing. I had visited their bar for happy hour (the tapas are great and I think change daily) but hadn't tried the full menu until last week. We loved everything and had the most enjoyable time that we've had in a long time. Their patio is fabulous, service friendly and attentive, and the food and menu selection a TEN. Pros: atmosphere, service, outdoor dining more

Not so good 5/27/2005

Good looking place but from there it was a down hill experience. The menu selections are limited and in our opinion what they DID offer ignored the basic principle of freshness and quality. They do have a tasty Arugula dinner salad, but past that it wasn't worth the price or the non chalant slow service. Pros: cosmopolitan look Cons: poor menu selection, poor service, overpriced more

THE BEST! 5/9/2005

Sparrow is by far, my favorite new restaurant. The service, atmosphere and food are the best in town. Try the tuna wrapped tuna, fabulous mussels (the sauce is slightly spciy and so yum), and bass. I had heard raves from my friends and it lived up to every expectation. more

HAPPY HAPPY CUSTOMERS 5/9/2005

I had heard so many great things about Sparrow that I had to check it out for myself in fact twice this week! I went with a large party during the week and we all (with many different standards and tastes) had a fabulous time. My partner and I went on the weekend and it was bustling and just as perfect. The food is tremendous and atmosphere perfect. I would highly recommend to anyone as it seems to draw a extremely mixed great crowd! Thank you Sparrow Pros: Atmosphere, Great Food, Valet Parking more

All around disappointing 5/7/2005

We dined here May 6th and we were very disappointed. We were promptly seated but after fifteen minutes of waiting we finally ""asked"" for a server because no one had come to our table. This was the second visit we have had here and both times the same experience. It took about one and a half hours to get our meal, which was unacceptable. There seems to be a serious problem in their kitchen. We ordered our desserts right after our meal, which then took nearly forty minutes to arrive and was nothing special. Seating is too close and it is very loud. Considering the pricey menu and limited choices, there are much better offerings at many other restaurants in the area. Sadly we do not recommend it, even though it is very nice looking inside. Cons: poor food, slow service, too pricey more

Can't wait to go back! 5/3/2005

I had dinner with a friend at Sparrow Sunday night and it was fantastic. The place was busy with a great vibe and the live music was a real treat! We started of with Tuna Wrapped Tuna, were wowed by the Boulliabaise and Filet and finished with the Chocolate Bomb and Donuts - YUM! We already have plans to return, with friends! more

Horrible Service 5/1/2005

We dined there Sunday eve - not too busy but most tables were full. We sat down right away waited about 15 minutes for someone to come by and eventually had to call over someone for service. We finally got a server and the service from there was painfully slow. Once we put our order in it took forever for our entrees. We were told a few times it was slow due to a server calling sick - not sure what that had to do with the kitchen. We ordered the chocolate bomb dessert halfway through dinner to ensure it would be ready 20min to prepare) and it ended up prob about 30 to 40 min. Overall - overpriced and slow service. We had the same issue with the boullibase - they were out of lobster but we heard how great it was with the lobster (after we ate it)! Pros: parking Cons: service more

Not worth it! 5/1/2005

Despite a beautiful appearance, great music and wonderful food, this place is NOT WORTH IT!! The service was less than poor - not by one waiter but the entire staff. Limited options on the menu. A wait staff that raves about the Bouillabase but I thought it was average. The other menu items were very good - I'd highly recommend the gnocchis in bolognese sauce. But be prepared to make this a 3-4 hour meal - our food took almost an hour to be delivered and another 20 minutes for the dessert (which we ordered at the beginning of the meal). I'd say there are many more places that offer just as good of food or better, at a better price point with MUCH better service!!!! Pros: Food Cons: Service, Price, Service more

DISAPPOINTING 4/24/2005

Should have stopped at the tuna wrapped tuna appetizer. Not sure what all the fuss is about on the bouillabaise - completely ordinary-to-bad with freezer burned-tasting shrimp, boring broth and served tepid. The waiter telling us that it usually holds piles of lobster (but not that night) did nothing to endear...probably should have asked if there was a commensurate reduction in price. Rabbit pasta was beyond greasy and even the toasted bread was bitter an off-tasting. Overall a complete disappointment including flighty service. There are much better options in the city for the price. Pros: atmosphere, quiet Cons: food, service more

GO SPARROW 4/8/2005

HAD TO SEE FOR MYSELF WHAT WAS GOING ON AT SPARROW. WENT WITH A GROUP OF FRIENDS AND HAD ONE OF THE BEST NIGHTS EVER. EASILY THE BEST FILET IN THE CITY - WAY BETTER THAN DEL FRISCOS. IF YOU LIKE SEAFOOD, THE BOUILLABAISSE IS TOTALY AUTHENTIC. STAFF WAS FRIENDLY AND EFFICIENT WITHOUT BEING IN YOUR FACE. BAR WAS HOPPING. ATMOSPHERE INCREDIBLE. GO SPARROW. more

Has potential 4/2/2005

Dined here recently with associates. Though the service staff is friendly, the meal took two hours to be plated and on our table. The server neglected to check our table often enough. The food was presented well but it was nothing unique or above many other less costly restaurants. The ambience was very nice - upwardly mobile bistro -like. Unfortunately the lack of noise buffering accoustics make it a very loud setting. The seating is also a bit cramped - we bumped into others seat backs several times. I will give it a few months and try again. They have a nice place here with good potential - just need to get a few bugs worked out. Pros: nice looking, very friendly staff, nicely presented meal Cons: very noisy, slow service, need better variety more

More than a meal 1/25/2005

It is an exquisite dinning experience in a neat, trendy and warm atmosphere. First Id say that Sparrows menu satisfy my palate, their Mediterranean cuisine brings out the essence of the ingredient. Its an inspired cuisine bringing the best of the Mediterranean basin flavors from the South of France and Italy to Morocco. Try the traditional bouillabaisse or their revisited Osso Bucco a lesson in flavor and balance. As they are working with authentic seasonal ingredients, their menu changes often, you can check their website. Second of all, I love the atmosphere! I like to go there for my girls night out - starting with cocktail & tapas at the bar (their bar is huge!), but it is also the perfect place for a nice romantic dinner sharing a Molten Chocolate Bomb for dessert. Last but not least the service is super friendly and flawless. more

A hidden treasure 1/20/2005

My wife and I love to eat out. We enjoy trying new restaurants and cuisines throughout Denver. Sparrow, is by far, our favorite restaurant. It has something for everyone and they continue to change the menu every week. The food is excellent and the ambiance is amazing. You can dress up or go casual. We now use Sparrow as an entertaining place for my out of town customers. They continue to rave about their dinning experience. Sincerely, Scott Colby Pros: Free Valet parking, Incredible ambiance, food is excellent more

Finally! 1/20/2005

What a great experience. My first trip was with a hard to please group and Sparrow offered something perfect for everyone. The atmosphere is fabulous and service impeccable! I've already been back twice and the bar is a perfect spot for casual dining. Their spot is a great alternative to downtown and free valet parking is offered every night. Must try the tuna wrapped in tuna appetizer, foie gras, bass and filet. On a casual night, their fries are to die for! Pros: menu variety, atmoshere, service more
