Best

I just moved back after being gone a year to find out that Sparrow is closed and replaced with a horrible horrble pizza place.............what in the world happened! Pros: Eve...

Worst

Sparrow restaurant couldn't be more appropriately named. Considering the miniscule portions in relation to the prices, this is not a place I'd return to. The ambiance was nice but...

Excellent 7/21/2006

Food was wonderful and the service was great !! It was a wonderful dining experience for my husband and I. more

Sparrow is Flying High!! 7/4/2006

I absolutely love Sparrow's atmosphere, service and menu. There aren't many places that my husband and I can go for just a quick mid-week supper or for a weekend dinner with friends in this town. Sparrow is it. We have brought so many of our friends here and all have been absolutely delighted. I just did happy hour with my friends and the tapas (only $3.50 during happy hour) were fantastic. Their Sparrow house cocktail is a must too ($4 during HH). Definitely one if not the top restaurant in Denver. Pros: ambience, valet parking, service Cons: wait on busy nights more

What a great surprise! 6/28/2006

I have to admit, we first chose Sparrow because every other ""good"" place was closed on Sunday and they took our table of 12 no problem. Let me tell you, ALL of our appetizers and main courses were EXCELLENT. This place does not get the attention it deserves, maybe its the name ""Sparrow"", kind of odd. But, we were all raving about it. I will highly recommend Sparrow even for diners outside the neighborhood, its worth the drive there. No hype involved with this place, incredible food, great service and we were very, pleasantly surprised! more

What a Find! 4/21/2006

We had by far the Best dining experience we've had in Denver at Sparrow. In fact, I hate to qualify it as in Denver, as it matches our favorites in San Francisco, Chicago and New York. The food was exquisite, the service down to earth, friendly and just right and atmosphere comfortable, hip yet relaxed. We have dined at Sparrow on the patio, in the bar and in the dining room in the last two weeks and we're still yearning to go back tonight. This will be our every day place that we've been looking for since we moved here last September. more

Here we go again 4/7/2006

In 9 years we dined at two previous restaurants that have operated in this location. Those two went under, and this one seems to be following in their footsteps. We hoped Sparrow would be different, but it too is on the way out. The dwindling number of diners on Friday and Saturday nights pretty much says it all. Poor menu selection, poor service, snail pace food preparation, and entrees that disappoint even the easy to please palate. The chef here must have a stake in the oil business! Ambience can only replace food and service quality for a short time. Like so many new places that open in Denver each year this one is just another great looking place that (eventually when they get around to it) serves below average food that is overpriced. Pros: nice looking place Cons: limited selection, slow slow slow, overpriced and loud more

A Lovely Surprise 1/29/2006

The atmosphere is inviting & the food deelish. Whether you're in jeans & sweater or all decked out, it's a wonderful & comfortable setting. Their Tuna Wrapped in Tuna appetizer is to DIE for - as is their Hot Chocolate w/ Churros. Yum! Pros: Great food, Wonderful wine list Cons: Limited menu, Parking more

First Impressions 1/25/2006

My friend Lynda and I ate at Sparrow last night. First impressions are so important in everything you do; dining is no exception. Immediately the atmosphere promises an open, warm & cozy place to dine-no snobby waiters here! The waitress/staff are friendly and attentive. The food fresh and prepared in a way that insured the chef/owners take pride in the dishes they present to their customers. Everything was delicious, but I have to boast about one dish in particular, the Tuna Wrapped Tuna. If you have time for nothing else but a glass of wine and an appetizer, don't miss the opportunity to try this dish! It screams with freshnees and bursts with flavor! The subtle hint of wasabi is so appealing, giving the perfect zest without taking away the true essence of this yummy appetizer! Our first impression left no doubt; we want to come back again and again! more

Just about perfect 12/7/2005

Having moved from NYC, I've been a bit of a food snob upon arrival. Sparrow showed me how wonderful dining - ANYWHERE - can be. Wonderful service, amazing food. We went back to try it again, thinking it was just a fluke - but it was magical again, and again, and again. Try the appetizer salad with goat cheese. They put on the PERFECT amount! more

Enjoyed great special occasion service 12/1/2005

I took my wife there for her birthday, and it was a great experience. Great ambiance, incredible food - you have to try the salads, butternut squash ravioli, and molten chocolate cake (which was served with a scoop of the best homemade mint chip ice cream we've ever had). Also a strong bunch of wine selections, and all of this at good value. We're surprised this place wasn't more packed for a Friday night -- it's comparable food and service to several popular places that will charge you quite a bit more, but at a great value! Pros: warm ambiance, great value, specialized service more

New to Town 11/29/2005

We moved to Denver 3 months ago and we finally found our new favorite restaurant that truly stands up to our favs in NYC. The ambiance-perfect. The food-even better. Our first visit we sat at the Chef's bar because we couldn't get a table. The funny thing is, now we won't sit elsewhere. I almost don't want to mention it because we feel like it's our little secret (the chef sends ""treats"" from the kitchen to those sitting at his bar). Our family and friends that we've sent are equally delighted. Thank you Sparrow for doing it right! more

Dining at it's finest 11/29/2005

I had to sign up just to share the wonderful experience I had at Sparrow! Sparrow was recommended by several friends who dine often and all of them said it was one of their favorites, I couldn't agree more. The staff is so friendly (and efficient) we felt comfortable right away and the ambiance couldn't be more inviting. I loved the tuna wrapped tuna and the chicken with pumpkin risotto was delicious. The place was bustling and I already have plans to go back with friends! Pros: Food, Ambiance more

Ditto the JLundlin 11/14 post 11/17/2005

We also cut our 'Sparrow experience"" short and left two weeks ago, though we were (unfortunately) more patient than the 11/14 poster must have been. This was our third visit here. Each of the previous two visits we were disappointed but we hoped it would improve over the past year. Sadly it has gotten worse. Terrible wait service, painstakingly slow food service, and food that is an insult to reasonable taste, especially considering the overpriced menu. All in all the worst dining experience in recent memory. Cons: poor service, sub average taste, pricey more

Disappointed 11/13/2005

After three weeks of being irritated by my whole Sparrow experience I finally signed up just to post. My girlfriend and I ordered some tapas at the bar on a Friday evening. The bar staff was friendly but after 45 Minutes of waiting for our food I asked for our check. They acted surprised and said our food was coming right out. They offered to comp. our dish but after 15 more minutes, still no food. Unfortunately I would like to comment on the food but after waiting 1 hour for an appetizer I have no idea if its good or if it would have ever come. Surprisingly the bartenders acted like this was very common and just par for the course. more

User review by snookyd 10/22/2005

I signed up just to remark on how much we love Sparrow. It is definitely one of our favorites. My wife and I have been dining here both on the casual Tuesday and weekends for over 6 months now. Last week I had an event for 38 of my managers and outside salesmen and it was flawless. From the passed appetizers to the service, entrees and desserts my guests couldn't have been happier or more impressed. The menu changes very often and the tapas are different nightly (try the trio)! I highly reccommend to those who haven't experienced Sparrow yet. You're missing out. more

Groups - Yes! 10/21/2005

Had a group of 12 people at Sparrow during a recent convention in Denver. Try to reserve the chef's table. A curtain can be drawn around the table offering some privacy from the rest of the restaurant. Food is terrific no matter what is ordered. The tuna-wrapped-tuna is to die for. Members of our group ordered everything from the burger and frites to a filet. Everyone raved about their food. Later on the way back to our hotels, people were still talking about the food and the exceptional service. Thanks for a successful event, Sparrow! Pros: Great food, Friendly servers, Ummm, umm good drinks Cons: Parking more

Always Up for a Trio! 8/23/2005

Sparrow has been consistently outstanding. The food is eclectic and real, the service has always been outstanding and the atmosphere is laid back yet casual. The outdoor seating and ambiance is hip without being too trendy and pretentious. Unlike some Denver restaurants, this place is authentic and can cater to casual or upscale diners. The Trio dishes are always fun as you get 3 very different flavors in one order and the Tuna-Wrapped-Tuna is fantastic. Overall, this restaurant has a unique and ambitious menu with reasonable prices. I highly recommend it to anyone that would like to try something different. Pros: Reasonably priced, Excellent service, Unique menu Cons: parking can be tough more

Ditto the GJ review :( 8/19/2005

We didn't mind the service so much, but I would grade the food a ""D+"" Considering that the four people at the table next to us complained about their dinners too confirmed that we were not alone. Sorry to say we won't eat here again. more

Devine Culinary Intervention 8/15/2005

I have been to Sparrow four times in the past six months. Each time has been a remarkable dining experience. The drink menu is imaginative and reasonably-priced. The mussles appetizer is not to be missed. Best mussles I've ever had! The food has been unique and delicious each time, and the service can't be beat. I can only chalk this gem of a restaurant to devine culinary intervention. Pros: great service, reasonably priced, delicious Cons: can't go today, can't go tomorrow, can't go this weekend more

What a disappointment 8/14/2005

Our visit here was reminiscent of a good idea gone sour. Good ambience to be sure, but given the choice we would rather have had a good meal. Poorly prepared food, and limited menu offerings can not be replaced by ambience. On a bright note we enjoyed the bar area and the friendly bar service. I would recommend it as a good place to have a drink with friends but there are countless better places to eat in Denver. We will not dine here again. more

Summer Solstice 8/9/2005

I had dinner for the first time Sunday evening and was delighted. I took a date and she was even more impressed. We sat outside on their patio and couldn't have been happier. The veal is absolutely delicious and the bass couldn't have been better! Our server was verry attentive and helpful. We were even pleasantly suprised by live music! The perfect evening for ""a night away from home"". Pros: Food, Atmosphere more
