My boyfriend enjoyed brunch and dessert here so we decided to give dinner a try tonight. The staff was definitely on a mission to sell sell sell. First, our waiter recommended us to get the wine that was $58 a bottle without mentioning that they didn't sell it in glasses. Being a super detail oriented person that I am, I was able to see through that trick and decided to go with the wine that was sold by glass ($9). When the waiter noticed that we were having trouble choosing an appetizer, he suggested to make a sampler for us, again without telling us the price. We assumed that it would be no more than the price of a main course, but we were wrong. It came out to be $32. We ordered the lamb chops, which were 75% lamb fat, on a sale of 10 I would give it a 4. For dessert we had some chocolate cake and almond pudding, those were fine. When we got the bill, I was very upset to hear that the appetizer costs us $32. Why didn't they disclose this price in the beginning? Two waiters came over saying to us that it costs $14 for each appetizer. But still, I've eaten in over 50 restaurants in Manhattan, and never heard of a SAMPLER that would cost double the price of an entree. I called the manager's attention, which only brought her to tell me in my face: ""you should ask the price."" Wow, what a load of bull. Please do me a favor sip sak, treat your customer with respect, hire professional staff, don't try to trick people into buying things. I hope that's not the Turkish style! more

Oh my God what a bad experience we had! The food was okay but the owner was the rudest and worse business owner we had ever seen! He was cursing his staff in front of everyone and treating them like animals. He was very rude to his customers and had no manners what so ever.Go to Akdeniz Turkish Restaurant or A La Turka if you'd like to eat real good Turkish Food. They deliver excellent food at good portions for a reasonable price! The lamb dishes are great and the sauce is perfectly rich. Also the Cabbage rolls are awesome. It comes with good amounts of pita and rice to soak up all of the good juices. It was the only thing my girlfriend and I ordered in when we live in Midtown East. My boyfriend and I had a very poor experience at Sip Sak. The food was badly exceptional, so bad that they will not even acknowledge that it was that BAD. But when the bill came, the manager acted as rudely and unprofessionally as I've seen a restaurant manager in New York act. It was one of those experiences that once you are insdie and ordered....you are at their mercy. It was that feeling.\r \r On a Thursday evening most of the place was empty and they still seated us near the kitchen and requested to move. The Orhan Yegen did not seem pleased. \r The appetizer was flavor-less, soggy and unappetizing and so forgettable that I dont even remember the name, it was with grape leaves. \r The fish we ordered and was almost a month old which again the owner refused to agree even when the server agreed that it was stinking. The server told us that owners ego was TOO much and that if sometimes customers complains (very often and all the time) he gets very frustrated and starts insulting them. To avoid that we left the food, paid and left. Turkish food in this restaurant tastes like my mother's cooking. I feel an effort and energy to please every customer. Every time I am in there I feel like I'm not a customer but a part of the Sip Sak family. Entertaining is done by the owner is always a funny surprise. Don't forget New York is a show town. Best service; never have to wait. I live close and go frequently. Have tried almost everything on the menu and never been disappointed. My favorites are the celery root-exquisite and the moussaka. The lamb dishes are teriffic and even the deserts are interesting. Tried the cooked squash desert and am addicted. I know the place very well because I worked long time in the establishment. Little MsPiggy, forget you waited 10 minutes for the server at Sip Sak they throw you out in 10 minutes and they make sure that you enjoyed your desert aswell. So, I find your comments just funny. ""The great states"" your comments are even funnier... This restaurant never had goat dishes either in the menu or daily specials. Chef uses only an american lamb that doesn't have no heavy taste which you can describe. I wonder how can a man live like a man to sabotage other men's business. First of all the service is trained expertly so you never have to wait. I have enjoyed every dish I tried and in spite of other remarks on this site, I find the owner's eccentricities fun and make for an interesting evening... They have a great variety of food from which to choose, rich in flavors and quality, which I look forward to with each visit. I expect the next one to be quite soon. We recently had dinner at Sip Sak. We were placed at a table too close to the kitchen and requested to move. The owner did not seem pleased. The grape leaf appetizer was flavor-less, soggy and unappetizing. We ordered our food-lamb kebabs and sea bass. Although the bread and the food were delectable, the service was utterly disgraceful. Not to belabor the point made by others here... but the owner of this place can ruin an otherwise tasty meal with his throw-around air of superiority. Does he think he's the No. 1 arbiter of Mediterranean food and wine or is he impersonating some arrogant, self-centered Ottoman pasha??? In brief: four of us were dining here, enjoying a meal that was good (but not great --we've had tastier Turkish food elsewhere in Manhattan) when this pony-tailed individual approached our table questioning the fact that one of us had left more than half of the order on his plate. The reply was ""It's good but rather salty to my taste."" Whereupon Pasha Ponytail exploded, berating our taste and saying we knew nothing about good Turkish food. Sorry pal, but we have tasted better Adanas than yours, no matter what you say. I am from new orleans ,Two weeks ago i invited a friend of mine to sipsak for her to have an idea about Turkish Cuisine.Our waiter , a young Turkish man whose name was Onder displayed very polite professional attitude with warmth which can not be combined together very easily.My guest had arthichoke and leeks cooked in olive oil served lukewarm(that 's the way to serve) I had baby Turkish meat pizzas,redolent with flavors.Our main course was Adana kebab laden with grill &meat aromas with mild spices over a thin bed of peasant bread with a medley of onion parsley ,sumak compote .Desserts were another delice of almond pudding and world reknown pistachio baklava.Our Turkish Teas were complimentary because my guest has expressed her love of Tea earlier in the evening..\r Sipsak in the culinary metaphormosis of Mediterrenean ,Greek ,Turkish,arabic,Armenian,impostors stands out as an authentic mecca of Turkish Food..When the bill comes it is more than a value.I can not wait untill next visit. I've been here three times and I plan on returning. I've never had a bad meal though I always manage to order too much food. The first two times I had a chicken kabob dish and loved it. I think I ate three helpings of that flat bread ( can't remember if it's complimentary or comes with the Koban salada ) but I recommend them both nonetheless. The last time I ate there, I ordered a dish that could be prepared with or without yogurt. I chose with and it didn't agree with me, but I did happen to order this delicious cherry drink (non-alcoholic), sort of like a lemonade but with cherries, not too sweet and a slight but pleasant tart taste which I will be ordering on my next trip. \r \r As for the comments about the owner, I saw him twice. He brought my food on one occasion and asked if everything was alright. I had nothing but praise for the food and the service. I'd recommend this place as a nice casual place to try some Turkish cuisine that is affordable and tasty. I haven't gone at night, but it's not the largest of places so I could see it getting crowded and noisy possibly if there is a dinner crowd. For lunch, give it a try.
