If you like the way New York City neighborhood Italian restaurants prepare fish this is your place in Houston. Risottos are usually also very good. This is a place I recommend ...

I read a review in an airline magazine which raved about the place and couldn't wait to try it. What a disappointment! I had grilled snapper that was served dry and hard. Normally...

HORRIBLE WAIT STAFF, POOR FOOD, UNACCOMODATING MANAGER 11/2/2010

I had my Anniversary Dinner at Simposio Restaurant two weeks ago. What a BIG mistake!!! The manager allowed another couple to have a corner booth that we have requested. Highly inappropriate for a manager at an establishment of the level of Simposio. I told the manager, Carlos, how upset I was about this especially since we reserved with plenty notice. He simply did not acknowledge my concern. He simply said ""I have one of our regular customers that asked for that exact table, and I simply could not say NO to him"" The waiter was horrible. They had only 1 waiter for the entire restaurant . My inlaws whom were from out of town complained about the tardiness of the entrees and drink orders. I am short staffed replied the Manager ""In very rude maner."" Food was poor quality. We had Pasta, veal, and fish. One plate was cold. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK YOUR EVENT HERE! Please go somewhere else! more

Worst Restaurant Manager in Town 11/1/2010

The food was reasonable, however the Manager was quite unfriendly and not very helpful. Upon paying we were over-charged and when we mentioned this and after we had paid he got quite annoyed that we'd complained and became aggressive and told us we were idiots and talking bull****, generally he dealt with the matter in a very ungracious way. Having worked in a restaurant myself I understand that it is a stressful job but would never dream of talking to a customer the way that he did to us. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant as it is over-priced and they do not appreciate your custom. more

Excellent Restaurant 4/6/2010

If you like the way New York City neighborhood Italian restaurants prepare fish this is your place in Houston. Risottos are usually also very good. This is a place I recommend going with one of the daily fish specials but the rainbow trout is always a good back-up choice. I also find it reasonably priced for the quality of the food. Pros: Some of the best fish in Houston Cons: Service can on ocassion be spotty more

Great food, Great waitstaff and most impotant Great atmosphere! 5/21/2008

My friend and I had lunch there May 20, 2008 the meal was fabulous! I told her that I am going to bring my fiance' for Fathers Day. Thank Simposio for a wonderful experience. Pros: Thumbs up totally more

Fabulous Sunday Brunch 1/31/2008

What a lovely restaurant. We went for Sunday Brunch (which features bottomless mimosas) and were completely delighted with our experience. The Eggs Benedict were perfect ! The Lobster Ravioli was in a lovely lemon cream sauce that I could have eaten with a spoon if it wasn't so rich. The pianist on the Baby Grand just added to the overall ambience we were seeking on Sunday Morning. We will definitely return - many times. Pros: A lovely, elegant dining experience. Cons: Parking is sparce more

The BEST Risotto EVER. 11/20/2006

The restaurant although quaint, and modest - has an excellent staff that knows their way around wine recommendations. The menu offers lovely dishes, but my favorite is the risotto. Simply delectable, with a savory Osso Bucco sauce and small pieces of Osso Bucco - lovely with the Chianti resommended by the server. I could tell the locals love it there too, servers and hosts called out their names with warm welcomes when they entered. Loved it! Pros: menu selections, wine selections, and the Bar more

Simply the best 5/13/2003

Without a doubt, Simposio is one of the best italian resturants outside of New York & Chicago. The food as well as the service is absolutely superb. Very well prepared, well presented and the taste is absolutely magnificent. Their sauces are one of a kind. Pros: Food, service, ambience more

Excellent Food - A New Favorite 4/2/2003

Finally tried this restaurant after reading many many reviews. Went on a Friday evening. Immediate seatings (everyone else must have been home watching War TV). Excellent food. We had the lamb chops and the filet as entrees. A mixed seafood appetizer was great and not to be missed. The wine list has some bargains on Napa/Sonoma wines. Pros: excellent entrees, wine selection, attentive wait staff Cons: small venue more

chef to chef 3/4/2003

Kudos to Alberto! I dare anyone in Houston to open a small tratorria in a strip center and do as well as he has done. His tortellini with bechemel and mushrooms is stellar.Another best is the slow braised pork leg with a balsamic sauce. You must understand that it take a lot of cash to run a restaurant ,even a small one with with quality ingredients.Alberto does an emaculate job with his resources. This is a restaurant where the owner care enough to give his patron the best. His food comes from the heart. Food snobs go away.I am a chef and know what it takes to do the job. Continued sucess,Alberto Pros: freshest ingredients, caring staff, experienced chef more

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent 2/20/2003

What more can be said. The overal dining experience was immaculate. Although the location is a bit odd, the restaurant serves one of the best Italian meals I've ever had. The food was impecable, and the service charming and attentive. Where else would the waiter share a limoncello with a patron? Only because there are so many other good/great restaurants in this city, have my wife and I not returned to Simposio. It's on our list, though, hopefully in the near future. Pros: Food, Service, Service more

Best Italian Food in Town 11/15/2002

Disappointing 8/27/2002

I read a review in an airline magazine which raved about the place and couldn't wait to try it. What a disappointment! I had grilled snapper that was served dry and hard. Normally I would send the food back but we had to wait so long (and the place wasn't very busy). Cons: Long wait, Mediocre food more

Not Worth the Wait 8/14/2002

I have heard many good things about this restaurant and my experience threw them all out the window. It took over three hours for 6 of us to order, eat and then receive dessert options. We waited 20 minutes before ever seeing a menu. Our waiter was actually the host and he spent more time socializing then serving. The food was expensive and came in small portions. While we waited to pay our bill, we listened to the many complaints coming from other tables. There's your ambience! Save you money and treat your tastebuds; go to Ruggles. Pros: Great Bread, True Italian Feel, Food was tasty Cons: Horrible Service, Over-priced, Very small/crowded more

Fabulous 8/6/2002

A true culinary experience, the Chef is an artist with a devine talent. Pros: Food, Service Cons: atmosphere more

Disappointed 6/14/2002

I was epecting much more based on the reviews. Although I was warned I found this to be a less than intimate, and even crowded setting. The food was OK but at the prices charged I would have expected something out of the ordinary. I have had similar meals in may etablishments with lesser reputations. I much prefer Damian's Cucina Italiana. more
