Tourist Trap, Don't go here 9/17/2010

Many better places to eat steak in Chicago. This place is the bottom of the barrel. Was there with a group of Chicago professionals. Service was so rude and in your face. The bartenders didn't want to work. Food is not that great. Skip this place. Terrible. Even if they give you food for free I wouldn't go there. more

poor service and bland food 4/24/2009

There is a problem with a restaurant when the only two things I can say that are positive is that it had a lot of memorabilia and that the french fries were the best part of the meal. There was a problem with an appetizer that was ordered, but instead of the management being apologetic, they insinuated that the problem was ours. Management also insunuated that I was just trying to get my meal for free. I had to go to the restroom to rid myself of the food. Management told me that they could take it off the bill. I assured them I wasn't paying for the appetitzer anyway. They offered dessert, but when we declined dessert, management only refunded 2 sodas. That showed me a lack of committment to trying to make things better. Pros: sports memorabilia Cons: poor service and bland food more

Poor Customer Service, Over rated 4/21/2009

I took my friend there for his birthday. When we order the appetizer, they didn't not explain in detail like they suppose to. When the appetizer came out and my friend took a few bites and realized it was wrapped in bacon. My friend is Muslim and he DOES NOT eat pork. When the manager came out, instead of appoligizing for the mistake, he blamed us for not knowing. He said, ""How could you not know it was wrapped in bacon."" The BBQ shrimp was covered with lots and lots of BBQ sauce and with the dim lighting, you can't tell it was wrapped in bacon. The manager said he was going to give us free dessert but we were so full, we didnt want dessert. We told the waitress that we didn't want dessert and if she could talk to the manager to do something else, all they did was take off our drink order. The waitress was very rude as well. When she gave the presentation of the steaks, she did not make any eye contacts, she just starred at the ceiling or looking away like she doesnt even care. We are NEVER going back there again!! Pros: Nice environment Cons: Poor and Rude services more

A Great Night Out 2/1/2007

My husband, then fiance, took me out to Shula's for my birthday. As an avid sports fan he had heard about its origination and was excited to give it a try. I very much enjoyed the etiquette of the waitstaff and the fine dining atmosphere in general. My dinner started out with the bbq shrimp appetizer, for the main course I had the filet with a side of broccoli. My husband and I both had one drink and he also had a filet for dinner. Our total bill was about 200 with over a 20% tip. It was an excellent meal and an ejoyable experience. A little pricy, but if you can afford it, it is well worth it. more

decent food, cold service 1/2/2007

This past Friday my boyfriend and I were in the mood for a steak and decided to give Shula's a try. After being greeted at the door we asked if they had any openings since we had not made reservations. We were told that the only seating available was in the bar although many tables remained open the whole time we were there. We got to high boy table and waited for about 10 minutes before a server came by. He wasn't very welcoming. We were never offered bread nor a presentation of the meats. We asked for reccomendations on appetizers and were told to try the lobster bisque. We did, and it was awful. We had a filet and asparagus for our meal. We ordered the steak medium well and it came medium (but we were too hungry to send it back). Our waiter was not very attentive nor was he very talkative. Since we shared our meal, we thought our bill would be faily inexpensive. It was $150!!! We did order some alcoholic drinks, my glasses of wine were $18 each (even though the menu said $12). The meal nor the service was worth the price we paid. It's doubtful that we'd go back Pros: decent steak Cons: Cold inattentive service more

Outstanding Steakhouse!!! 11/24/2006

The Filet Mignon just melts in your mouth! It is seasoned & cooked to perfection. Shula's has an outstanding wine list. The only suggestion is to be prepared to EAT! The steaks and side dishes are served in very large portions. Shula's exceeded my expectations and I will return. Pros: Steak, Wine List, & Side Dishes more

Great Experience 11/15/2006

Went to Shula's with a party of 4 business associates and had a great time. The food was outstanding and the service was knowledgeble and atentive. They also have an amazing wine list with something for everyone. I asked the Waiter for something that would knock my socks off in the $100 range. He not only did it but exceeded all my expectations. A great experience!! I will be back!!! Pros: Great Wine list, Amazing steak, Fantastic service more

Got have it 11/11/2006

Was there for dinner and couldn't believe the great food that we had. Friendly service and for meal left me full for 2 days. Had to wheelbarrel me out. Love that CAB thing they have going. more

A HUGE disappointment 7/13/2006

They brought out my steak raw rather than medium rare. This would have been okay but not great (although if they used their thermometer like every other steak house it shouldn't have happened) BUT..... they pulled everything off the table when they took the steak back, we figured that was to keep them warm (or replace them with warm) when they brought the steak back - NOPE they brought the same items back to the table COLD. I mean butter wouldn't even soften in the potato. When we told them - they didn't offer to do bring us warm, or apologize in any way - I finally told them we wouldn't eat or pay for the cold potato but we did eat our cold asparagus. The steaks were good but not exceptional - and like I said the sides were a huge disappointment. Pros: nice atmosphere, convenient if you're staying at the hotel Cons: TERRIBLE service, food unexceptional at best more

Disappointing 4/21/2006

We were entertaining clients in private dining room; service was below average & inattentive; when waiter read menu & gave prices at a private party where it was known we were paying for all, giving prices is inappropriate; many staeks not prepared to order; dessert were served & where is coffee; we had to go out in lobby to find wait staff; help!! sure didn't meet our expectations in saying thank you to our clients. Cons: Entire staff, Food Preparation, Attendtion to Detail more

This was a dissapointment 3/24/2006

I was really looking forward to dinner at Shula's but was very dissapointed in the entire experience. We arrived 5 minutes early for our reservation but they wouldn't seat us right away dispite the fact that there were plenty of open tables (yeah, didn't make sense to me either). The menu is on a football which you get a quick look at while the waiter/ess stares at you awaiting your order. The biggest upset was the steaks. I didn't think they were of the quality of an upscale restauraunt. Just average. The sides were pretty good, with large portions, but for the price, this is not one of my favorites in Chicago or the suburbs. I would definately not go back. more

So underated!!! 6/7/2005

I've been to numerous steakhouses in Chicago, but Shula's is by far the best. The filet is cooked to perfection, just melting in your mouth. Even the sides are wonderful!!! Don't miss this underated steakhouse. Pros: Awesome food more

Cowboy Steak the best 6/11/2004

Had the Cowboy Steak with Creamed Spinach. It just doesn't get any better than this. The service was top notch professional. Didn't have room for dessert. If you like vodka try the '3'(Brand Name) vodka. Real smooth! Had a group meeting in the private dining room. It was a real hit. (Ask for Sandra, she will take good care of your group) Pros: Cowboy Steak, Creamed Spinach, 3(Brand Name) vodka more

The Best! 2/4/2003

Shula's is the best steak house in the city. The steak is tender, juicy and flavorful. The sides were plentiful and tasty. The food is a bit pricy but worth every penny. The only thing I didn't like was that the menu is on an actual football. Everytime I tried to pass it to someone at the other table, the waitress grabbed my arm. Pros: tasty, tasty steak, great sides, great service more
