I went here after reading the near-unanimous praise heaped upon it here and was sorely disappointed.

Editorial review from Citysearch 2/8/2014

This place gives a good cut for a good price. The decor is very ""LA"", walls papered with magazine clips of beautiful people in various states of undress, and Playboy magazines on the coffee table in the waiting area. I haven't found ""my person"" yet, so I just walk in and ask for next available. I haven't gotten a bad cut yet from a woman there. The male barbers have either been great, or once I actually had to go back to get it fixed, which they did without complaint. more

Trey's my guy! 11/11/2011

I was referred to Trey, the apparent ""go to guy"" at Shorty's/Pubic Service for women's hair. When I started going to him, I was a broken-bleach blonde with hair that would barely grow past my shoulders. Trey started doing my hair, he added a few colors for dimension and did NOT chop my hair off. A year later, it's like I have a new head of hair (that is past my shoulder blades). I don't even go in as often because it grows out so nicely. Unfortunately, Trey moved to Roman Salon on La Cienega so, I will miss Shorty's but I will keep sending my husband there! more

Where did Henry go?? 6/11/2011

Does anyone know where Henry went? He left Shorty's fairly recently I think more

Henry was incredible and informative. See him! 3/2/2011

I was on a search for a stylist that would listen and do what I asked. No matter who I went to, they always gave me a variation of the same cut. I wanted something new and different. A friend suggested that I try Shorty's. I was fortunate enough to land a seat in Henry's chair. He (politely) said that I should try a more modern look. I wasn't in denial. I knew that my hair was out dated. I just couldn't seem to get anyone to do anything about it. I gave Henry total creative freedom to do as he thought was best. I am so glad that I did. Not only did he give me a new and improved style but he explained the way my hair grows and how to style it correctly. He is a very talented hair dresser and made sure I walked away knowing that I CAN have good hair. If you are in need of someone new then go see him! more

henry is the best 9/2/2010

henry hooked me up. finally after three years of trying to find that one guy who could cut my hair the way I wanted it. he knew exactly what i wanted and knew the tools i wanted him to use. he took the words out of my mouth. if you want an awesome razor cut go to henry, enough said. more

my favorite barber shop 6/10/2010

I got my best haircut at Shorty's. Even though all of the hairstylists seem to be doing a great job, in my personal opinion, Henry is the best. He did exactly what I wanted and also made a few suggestions which I really liked. When he was done cutting my hair, I realized it was the best haircut I've ever had. Henry took his time working on my hair, really paying attention to detail. Didn't miss a spot. Ever since I've been coming back to Shorty's. more

one good cut followed by 4 BAD ones 5/27/2010

Got a great cut about 1 year ago - since then, i have been back 4 or 5 times, and i eventually learned my lesson. all bad cuts after ONE good one. the stylists here are not very good, a few told me they only cut hair to earn some extra money, so these are not professionals, but hobbyists. last cut made me so mad (the guy made a NEW hair line on the back of my neck when i TOLD HIM cut it to look natural, and it took 3 weeks to look normal again) - i wanted to and should have asked to see his credentials. Pros: none as of May 2010 Cons: many ... read ... more

Great Haircut 12/22/2009

I got a great hair cut at Shortys from Gilbert. I'm generally not very good at describing how I want my haircut, and Gilbert had never cut my hair before, so I was a little unsure of how this was gonna go- he seemed to understand what I was looking for (even with my minimal directions/instructions) and gave me a cut that was just right for me. I was pleasantly surprised and will definately be back. more

Good Cut- Good Energy 12/13/2009

I've been getting great haircuts from Gilbert for a while now. This week two people asked me who cut my hair (in a positive way!) I think that's pretty cool, right? Time to write a review! So...You can make an appointment with him- he's always been right on time for me- haircut takes about 30 minutes- cost: $30 bucks- obviously solid work and he brings the good, chill, energy. There you have it. Works for me. I can definately recommend checking him out. more

FINALLY got a good haircut! 11/14/2009

I've lived in LA for just over a year and I've yet to find a good spot to get a haircut. I finally went to Shorty's and got a great haircut from a great stylist. The atmosphere is very cool and coming to Shorty's is more of an experience rather than just getting a haircut. Pros: Atmosphere and friendliness of staff. more

Mixed Reviews, but depends on Who Cuts Your Hair 6/26/2009

I've seen some people post on here that they have no idea how this place could get so many good reviews. Pros: One of the Best Cuts I've Received (Dimas or Elvis) Cons: THE WORST Haircut I've Ever Received more

Keeping It Simple Never Looked So Good 4/9/2009

My barber at Shortys (calming Gilbert) has saved me from myself, and my misguided ideas of what my hair should be doing?. or is it more like what my hair shouldn?t be doing? In any case I was a lost soul that had never quite been the master of my own hairstyle. Gilbert just broke it down for me in a real simple manner, never making it more complicated than it needed to be. As he said- ?don?t over think it?. He gave me a clean, classic haircut that has a few different easy styling options. I feel like I?ve got this hair thing down now- thank you Gilbert. more

My friend and I randomly walked in, and we were taken care of right away. Ryane listened to what we wanted and did an excellent job. Your hair is super important and Ryane is the gal to go to! She's artistic, friendly, super cute, and you know you can trust her! She also was very complimentary to her co-worker, Trent, who I also read good reviews about. I'm hooked! Keep up the good work! Pros: Friendly, skilled, easy to talk to, & FANTASTIC!!! Cons: Someone was in the bathroom & I had to go. more

Ask for Chris R. He's a cut-above! 2/19/2009

If you are looking for an experienced stylist to get it right the first time, see my man Chris R. He's a class act and treats you like you need to be treated. Besides being hooked by his charming smile and winner personality, you will enjoy your time in his chair. Whether it's a high and tight or close and edgy, this Shorty's professional will do it right every time. Pros: great experience. more

I have no idea were to start. I received a hair cut from the most inexperienced person possible. While in the process of cutting my hair, she was pretty much asking how to cut it. You would think being someone who works here would know how to cut hair. If your an inexperienced hair stylist, this is the place to apply for a job. You could get a better hair cut at Super Cuts. If Shorty's really cared about their customers, they wouldn't hire someone with so little experience Don't waste your money or time at Shorty's, go to Rudy's. more

Great haircut. Great price. 1/28/2009

Ask for Jessica. She spent time making sure I got the right haircut, was very thorough and a nice person. I got a $50+ looking haircut for $23. more

Barber Gil 1/23/2009

Gilbert makes my big crazy asian hair seem (as he puts it)- ""intentional"". If you have this kind of hair you know what I'm talking about- it's probably always gonna be big crazy hair, but now it looks like it's on purpose! Who knew?! Lol. Thanks Gil! more

  • You can get a stylish 'do, the hottest color, or just find out what's going on in town at Shorty's Barber Shop.

A men's regular haircut is only $25, which is about the same price as the big haircut chains, but the industrial style ambiance (graffiti-covered walls, pulsating music, and tattooed and pierced staff) adds so much more to the value of your haircut. At that price, you can go every few weeks and maintain the perfect look.

Shorty's has won three WeHo Awards, been listed in the "Best of LA" guide from LA Weekly, written up in CARGO Magazine, and feature worldwide on CNN. The shop is high energy, exciting, and offers a hip atmosphere. Call when you're on the way to get your name on the list or just stop in!

  • With its retro sign and candy stripe barber pole, this barbershop might look like an all-American throwback to the '50s, but step inside and it becomes obvious that this chop shop is far more than...
