It's Okay 4/30/2012

I went here for a quick bite to eat. I've heard so much about this place and decided this was the perfect time to try it. Honestly... I thought it was okay. The service was pretty fast. I did not get a burger. I got a shake and the Chicago hot dog. Maybe I need to try the burgers. I thought the hot dog was average and I've tasted better shakes. I probably wouldn't go back there again since everything was just okay for me but I might reconsider a visit one day. more

Amazing burgers 3/24/2012

This has become my go to place for some good juicy burgers. The meat's perfectly cooked and whatever sauce they put on it is a sure winner. I always get a double because a single just isn't enough...and it's a cruel joke because you'll end getting in line again for another one. So save yourself the trouble and make sure you get a double. The fries I don't think is all that special but the burger is the star when I come here. I've also tried their chocolate shake and I liked it but I liked the root beer float a lot better. This location has some thieving squirrels so be prepared. They're so brazen that they will literally get on your table and steal the fries right out of your basket. The 1st time I came here I was pretty shocked. We had to get up and leave our table and watch those thieves steal our condiments and even our forks. Oh and the line...I've waited about 45 min. the last time I was there but their burger's worth the wait I think. It's a beautiful location especially when the weather is nice. more

Won't blow you away 4/18/2011

I heard so much about Shake Shack before I moved to New York, and I've got to say, it's pretty good but not nearly as amazing as I was expecting, or as the long lines would have you believe. The burger is ok, but I prefer Corner Bistro's or Five Guys. If you do go to Shake Shack, double your order - it's not as filling as you would expect. more

I love this place but just the thought of standing 30-40 minutes outside in the upcoming winter scares me.. maybe I'll pay someone to stand in line for me ;) more

Caution: Watch out for White BIT*CH at food handout counter. 9/5/2010

Caution: Watch out for White BIT*CH at food handout counter. I started going to shake shack regularly with my friends since I liked one of their concretes. When I went there this Sunday evening (5th sep) at 8:45pm on labor day weekend, they gave me a shake that I thought was not the one I had ordered. When I told the girl at the counter that it was not what I ordered, she said ""Once the food leaves the counter, we have no responsibility for it. We can't take it back."" She was shouting and very rude. I'm not sure how I could have found out it was the wrong shake without tasting it. I was shocked to say the least, even McDonald's has better service. There were other people waiting for their food who couldn't believe what they heard. My turn to act: So, me and my friends spent the next 15 minutes telling everyone in the line what had just happened. About 5 people who had seen what had happened left in disgust. To be fair, the girl did offer me a different shake later, but she did not apologize, and it was too late. I hope Shake Shack management takes notice. Payback's a bit*ch, bit*ch! more

What is wrong with you people? 6/9/2010

I heard all the hype about the shake shack. A cheesy shake, the burger was absolutely nothing to write home about and the fries; I couldn't finish the fries. You can stand in line for that dog food; I'll never go back. Is it possible to give negative stars because there's no way they deserve even 1 star? And how much are these people getting paid to write these fabulous reviews of this useless shed? Cons: everything else more

yummy burgers 4/6/2010

I recently went to the shake shack (saturday) after reading so many good reviews on here and the cheeseburgers were sooo good. i wish they were a little bigger but i would go again. i waited in line almost an hour so next time i'll go to a different location to see if the lines are shorter Pros: good burgers Cons: long lines more

Best food with outdoor dining 3/25/2010

You can tell that the burgers are fresh and not frozen. They are amazingly tasty. Their fries are also deliscious. The waffle fries are perfectly made. In an elevator, the aroma from my fries and burger was getting compliments. The vanilla shake has the ideal ratio of ice cream and milk. These guys do it right. Pros: Burger, Fries, and a Fantastic Shake Cons: Lines... but what do you expect when there is good food more

DMANBURGER ""Shake Shack"" 3/10/2010

Shake Shack ! Shake Shake ! Shake Shack !!\r It seems like every time you’re talking or reading about burgers someone’s always writing or praising about Shake Shack ! I remember the summer of 2004, when Danny Meyer opened this modern, architecturally sleek designed burger shack in the middle of Madison Square Park, I had visions of easily rolling up on the Shack and sampling their tasty burgers on a daily basis, however I soon realized that, so did every other Tom, Dick and Harry in the gotham of New York City!! The lines it seemed were around the block at anytime of the day! Not being the most patient of people, I asked myself, “Is this real ?” “How could a burger be this good ?” I decided very adamantly, that Shake Shack was not for me, because my “need it now” type attitude was unnecessarily and frequently tested. Surprisingly as the years went on, I watched in amazement as the Shack lines of hungry bankers, fashionistas and the odd culinary savvy tourist, were not swayed from the non-subsiding lines.\r \r So, fast forward several years, and hundreds of thousands of burgers served, I found myself standing in a line for one of these iconic little treats. The air was cold and the sky was gloomy, so I opted for a nice warm nest under one of the few heated lamps that were scattered around the alfresco dining area. To monitor and speed up my wait, I was given a fancy plastic alarm type device, like the ones you find in those ghastly tourist type restaurants such as Hard Rock and Planet Hollywood. Before I knew it, the flashy little lights flickered intermittently, telling me that my greasy beefy delight was ready to be consumed. My first opinion of the Shack burger was, how pretty it was ! They were right out of a Van-Gogh painting, bursting with color and vibrancy ! The lettuce was leafy and bright green, the bun is soft and vibrant yellow, and the tomatoes were juicy and rosy red. I grabbed my little take out Shack pack of goodies and proceeded back to the comfort of my outdoor heater. The burgers meat is from yet again, burger blending genius Pat La Frieda, whose carefully selected blend of brisket and sirloin is grinded for Shake Shack daily.\r \r The Shake Shack burger stand, for those of you who have been living on another planet for the last 6 years, has become equaled with hamburgers and New York, and still swears by their proven method of smashed burger cooking. Basically they slap the patty on a fiery hot flat-top griddle and then smash the patty into the grill, flattening the burger so the little meaty edges tear and break. In those little meaty edges, collects all the grease and yumminess from the seasoned griddle, and caramelizes into a crispy round the edges, soft in the middle, gorgeous burger patty. After its popped on a slightly toasted potato-egg bun and safely wrapped and tucked away in a neat little box. The burger wreaked of flavor and goodness, all kinds of goodness ! The meat and cheese juices oozed down my face which I happily ignored continuing to gorge on this fine specimen of burger handiwork.\r \r The size of the burgers are small, so I suggest grabbing a douce of these bad boys. Couple it with some crispy crinkled cut French Fries, and a creamy mud-like shake, and you’ll have a smile on your face for the rest of the day, even if the boss gives you grief about spending too much time at lunch. If time is of an essence, but you really want a Shack burger, check out the handy Shack-Cam on the website to ensure a speedy lunch time experience. I guess all those years ago when I was so impatient and pig-headed about the rigmarole surrounding Shake Shack, I never realized what went into this iconic burger establishment. The people and the vibe here was very humble and extremely friendly. And not surprisingly owner Danny Meyer has invented and secured a place in the culinary history books as a burger virtuoso.\r Pros: Pat La Frieda blend Cons: Soggy bun more

Delicious Burgers! 9/22/2009

Yum yum yum! I thought we have great burgers in Cali, but this place really matches up! The line was really long, but it was so worth it! The burgers tasted really fresh and I topped it off with some frozen custard. Pros: Yummy Food Cons: Long Line more

Love the concept but ... 12/22/2008

The concept is great ... on both 23rd Street and on the Upper West Side. Affordable tasty grilled burgers and wonderful custard shakes. The open out of doors seating on 23rd street and the efficiency of the production line. That said, I'm concerned about the quality control. Both locations are so crowded, burgers are coming off the line under-cooked. This has happened more than once with members of my group. I fear that the popularity of this place is causing a rush on food production. Not a good thing. Pros: Yummy custard Cons: Long waits more

Great burger, perfect summer spot 6/5/2008

The Shack Burger is always perfectly seasoned and has the perfect bun to meat ratio (get two burgers instead of a double if you're really hungry). Shakes and daily changing ice cream flavors are amazing, you can taste that they're made fresh, and the cheese fries are great. The wait is usually long, and coming here for your first time I can easily see why people would be disappointed-the prices aren't the cheapest, and the food is excellent but it's not transcendental. However, the staff is always gracious (would you be when handling such volumes?), the food is consistently really really good, and where else can you get a great burger, better yet a half bottle of wine, in a beautiful park in this city? Go when you've got some time to burn, the experience is more enjoyable when you're not freaking out about how long the lines takes. Great place to spend an afternoon/early evening with some friends in the warm weather. Pros: Great food, great setting, great staff Cons: wait, you're crazy to try to go on your lunch break more

Unbelievably good. 3/23/2007

This is the best burger in NYC. Maybe the world. I've tried the other common ""finalists"" for best burger (Corner Bistro, Burger Joint etc) and while those are good, this one has them beat by a mile. It has far more taste and is cooked to perfection every time. The shakes and fries are also pretty good and the service is as efficient and friendly as can be under the circumstances. Only two things I would change about this place if I could -1) cut down the wait time and 2) stay open longer in the winter, like through december. Pros: Amazing burger, good service, decent fries and shakes, not overly expensive Cons: long wait in line, only open about 9 months a year more
