I always wanted to go to this place after seeing the movie. It was a disappoinment. The service was slow, the food so-so. The frozen hot chocolate was good but pricey. The chocola...

Great experience, better desserts 4/24/2007

I was slightly surprised to see such horrible reviews of this place. I mean, yeah, the service is generally a little slow and/or unfriendly, and yes, you have to wait. However, how is this different from any other trendy spot in Manhattan? Pros: Great food, amazing desserts, a great experience Cons: Service can be slow, but who's in a rush here? more

Best Everything 3/26/2007

If you?re in New York this is a must-try! I first wanted to try the restaurant after seeing the movie as I?m sure most people did. The food was amazing! I even took a picture of my plate before I dove in and ate the whole thing. When the time came for dessert my friends and I were stuffed but we were persuaded by the waiter to order a Broadway sundae. It was also the best dessert I have ever had. We happened to go in on St. Patrick?s day so the sundae even had green whipped cream! Pros: Wonderful dinner and dessert Cons: Don't get too full - save room for dessert! more

Be sure to get reservations in advance 3/16/2007

This place had the best ice cream sundae that I've ever had and I eat a lot of ice cream! I have to admit that at first, I was a bit shocked at the price but thought hey, this is NYC and went ahead anyway. Boy, I was not disappointed. The sundae was mammoth and worth every penny. The only mistake was that we had ordered food too and after having eaten it all; I was so full that it hurt to move! Anyway, it has been 3 years and I cannot wait to go back. I'm headed for NYC in the Spring and this place is going to be my first stop! more

Cozy Atmosphere, Frrozen Hot Chocolate is a Must! (And so are reservations!) 12/1/2006

As overrated as people say Serendipity's is, I think it is a great restaurant. I went on a Friday afternoon for lunch. I strongly suggest getting reservations (2+ months in advance) or you will be waiting for 2 hours. I got in after 10 minutes from having reservations. The place has a very cozy atmosphere, but is very small and gets crowded very quickly. The frrozen hot chocolate is an absolute must. It tastes like a cross between a milkshake and frozen chocolate pudding. The items on the menu are Manhattan-priced ($$$), but the food quality and quantity is worth it. Pros: Frrozen drinks, desserts, cozy atmosphere Cons: wait (without reservations), crowdedness more

Make reservations.. 11/22/2006

I can't stress that enough about this place, you must make reservations. It gets extremely crowded and the place itself it small. Don't go expecting to get in because there will be a longgg wait.. It has a cozy and relaxing decor. Nice ambiance. The food, of course is the best. Specially their desserts so save room. Order anything ice cream you won't be disappointed. Ahhh and the hot chocolate is a must! Great for families and kids of course. more

visit on a weeknight 11/16/2006

Went on a Thursday evening and was seated immediately. The food here is great, and the portions are more tnan generous. As a New York staple, it's a place to go to at least once . They're famous for their delicious desserts, but I'd also recommend the sheperd's pie - it's the best ever. Pros: great dessert Cons: very crowded on weekends - make reservations more

Be sure to get reservations in advance 11/14/2006

This is a wonderful restaurant just make sure you have reservations a long time in advance. The food is great, the people are nice, but the 4 hour wait can be avoided. Pros: Food is great Cons: long wait to get in more

Gotta check it out once 11/12/2006

This is kind of a place you go to, just to say youve been there. Definitely extremely overpriced, even for NYC. And the portions are good if you are Andre the giant. more

3 YEARS LATER AND I STILL THINK ABOUT HOW GOOD IT WAS 10/22/2006

This place had the best ice cream sundae that I've ever had and I eat a lot of ice cream! I have to admit that at first, I was a bit shocked at the price but thought hey, this is NYC and went ahead anyway. Boy, I was not disappointed. The sundae was mammoth and worth every penny. I'm headed for NYC in the Spring and this place is going to be my first stop! Pros: Fantastic dessert Cons: Big portions make you so very full more

What's the hype about??????????????? 10/14/2006

DONT make the mistake of ordering the ""Food"" even though hard to even consider it food.......The desserts were excellent but not worth the hassle, crowded environment or PRICE. If it wasn't for the movie......this place wouldn't be what it is today. more

Best Dessert Place in NY 10/2/2006

Love it! Love it! Love it! Yes, it's a little overpriced, but who cares? The place if fun, the waitstaff is friendly, and the food/dessert is very good. If nothing else, just go there once for the Frrrrozen Hot Chocolate...I guarantee it will keep you going back for more! Best sandwich there: the Haught-Ashbury! Oh, and be prepared to wait in line...this place is always packed! Pros: Desserts Cons: Wait to get in more

BEST DESSERT EVER 9/29/2006

I went on a Wednesday at around 8pm. We were immediately seated and our server was really helpful. We ordered the Strawberry Fields Sundae and the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. OMIGOD. It is the BEST chocolate drink i've ever had! The place is so well-decorated. I love the vibe. I feel like i'm in a friend's kitchen/dining room. It's so cozy and well-lit. Serendipity provides such a great experience - always a spirit lifter and a place to celebrate something special. Pros: AMBIENCE! SERVICE! FRRRROZEN HOT CHOCOLATE!!! more

Great dessert, decent food, but crowded 8/28/2006

My friend made reservations so just when we got there, we were seated - no wait (this was on a Tuesday night). The table we were seated at wasn't the most comfortable - a bit close to the party next to us. Our waitress was very attentive and constantly came by to refill our water and see how we were doing. The ambience is also nice - great for families or friends. I saw a few kids running around and also a large group of friends celebrating a birthday. My friend and I both ordered sandwiches. The portions were more than enough. While the food wasn't anything spectacular for the price, it was satisfactory. We passed on the frozen hot chocolate and on the recommendation of the table next to us, ordered the Strawberry Fields sundae, which had ice cream, cheesecake, and real strawberries (in a sauce?) with whipped cream. This is FANTASTIC and HIGHLY recommended; it's great for sharing with a friend. I would return (with reservations) for just the dessert. Pros: DESSERT, ambience, service Cons: Cramped table more

Great Ice Cream... lots of fun. 8/20/2006

Well, perhaps we won some sort of cosmic lottery, because we showed up with a party of 9 at 11 pm on a Thursday without a reservation and were seated almost immediately. The staff was not rude to us in the slightest, even though everything about us screamed tourists (which we were). The desserts were excellent, the waiter was great, and we had a really fun time. It may be a cliched thing to do, but it was worth the hype for us. Oh, and I think adding raspberry to the Forbidden Broadway Sundae made the amount of chocolate involved more manageable... Pros: Great desserts, friendly staff more
