It is rare in life that you find things that are good from start to finish - and actually engage you in the process. But for me, Seattle Goodwill is one of those places. Don't get me wrong, I'm a total clothes horse and I also love Bay & Co, all the cute shops in Freemont and Ballard, but Goodwill is something special. First of all, you can find things that are truly unique, totally different and allow you to create your own look, rather than just go with the crowd. 2nd, it's dirt cheap. I have bought everything from a Missoni sweater for $5 to killer vintage suits and coats for not much more. 3rd, it's recycling. Rather than blindly supporting massive consumerism, some part of me thinks there is at least a modicum of good in recycling, reusing, sharing. 4th, EVERYONE working in there is getting on-the-job training to become fully productive members of society. From the person hanging clothes to the person checking you out, they are all learning valuable skills to join the workforce. Lastly, every penny raised in the store goes to support educational programming to give countless individuals training in everything from ESL to technical and computer training that make them employable. From start to finish, every minute and every penny you spend in Seattle Goodwill makes this city a better place. And you can find FAB clothes there, if you can enjoy the spirit of the scavenger hunt.
