Fantastic Experience and Cut! 3/7/2011

Moved to Richmond in the early fall of last year and one of the first items on my agenda was to choose a hair stylist. Having the same hair style for nearly 20 years (or a similar style) I was reticent. Choosing a stylist can be one of the most important parts of moving to a new city and starting a new life. Anyway, found Scissors online (it was close to my home) and went in for what I thought would be a simple haircut. Met with Simone. She sat me down for a consultation. I was ready for the same cut. She asked me a lot of questions about me and my style, etc. So after a great consult, she asked me if I was ready to try a slightly different hair style. I said yes before I could think twice about it...but I did it because I really felt secure with her and trusted in her knowledge and the fact that she was thinking about what would make me comfortable. So 1/2 hour later....I had a much more contemporary hair cut, perhaps trendier than I expected, but it made my face look trimmer, it was circa 2011 and not circa 1991...and it made me look and feel fantastic. As I styled it on my own and it has become part of me...I love it. Since moving here I have started working out, lost weight and feel so much better about me....and this style and cut really has helped me to feel better about me. I love the energy in the salon and the energy of the stylists. Im glad I found Scissors....not sure what my hair would look like now if I had not. more

I've had better. A lot better... 3/2/2011

Color turned out OK- although [even though supposed to be permanent] it washed out after 3 weeks (only used the products I purchased at this salon- so, if you believe that is the reason, then perhaps you should stop peddling cheap products)- but it was good while it lasted. Haircut- not so much, though. Simone did not ask me what I wanted and just went at it. I was trying to explain to her what I wanted, but she just kind of blew me off. I thought: OK, surely, she knows what she is doing... Now I wish I was more persistant, as I ended up having to cut most of my hair off to fix her ""20-some years of experience"". Sad, considering that I worked very hard for 2 years to grow my hair out.\r This place may be OK for someone else, but I definitely will not be going back- or recommending it to anyone else... \r \r P.S.I find it completely distasteful how every time someone shares a less-than-perfect experience at this salon, bunch of Scissors' insiders jump them and bombard them with a plethora of excuses on how there is no way any of this could possibly happen at this salon and how we, the customers, are wrong for having these bad experiences. Despite of what you may think of us, we are plenty capable of assessing our experiences and knowing when they are inferior. Use the feedback to improve the services, not to harass the clients. Too much effort is spent on trying to convince anyone who will read that everyone who complains of bad experience at Scissors is a moron and/or a liar. Very uncool. more

Tan without sun damage!! 2/17/2011

I have been going to Scissors for about a year now for their Fake Bake airbrush tanning product. As a retired tanaholic, I was always on the search for the perfect fake tan. Fake Bake is the answer!! They actually spray the product on you manually- it comes out as a light mist followed by air to dry the tan. It looks legit!!!! I swear by this in the summer time. Today I met with Allison who not only squeezed me in last minute, but was incredibly nice, professional, and really took her time to make sure my tan looked perfect! Although I have never used Scissors for any other service besides fake bake thus far, there is no doubt in my mind that they are incredibly friendly and professional and do a phenomenal job!! more

Scissors is the best! Simone and her staff are talented professionals. I have been a client for more than five years and have not been disappointed with cuts or colors. I get undivided attention when I am in the chair and get styling tips and help when I need it. I have found the atmosphere to be relaxed and friendly. I am especially grateful for the attention I received after an episode of chemotherapy. Simone had the skills and patience to help me look my best through my transition from practically bald to normal. I highly recommend Scissors. They deserve their great reputation. more

LOVE IT 8/18/2010

I went in today for my first time, and got my hair cut by Melanie. I wasn't sure what to expect at first, but my experience at Scissors exceeded my expectations! I was sick of my a-line/stacked hair, and I told Melanie that I wanted to grow it out. Melanie completely understood me, and went through with me step-by-step on what she was going to do to my hair. She added layers and told me tips on how to get more volume! She gave me a chic bob, and she gave me my perfect side bangs that I had missed so much. Needless to say, I am so happy with my hair cut! I am definitely making my next appointment when I come back during my college break, and will continue to go throughout my hair growing process! Thank you so much! more

Professional Color Service 8/11/2010

I will give it to Simone, she knows color! After recieving a service I was unhappy with at another salon, Simone was able to remove the color, tone down the platium highlights and leave my hair feeling...well like hair! I was expecting to walk out of there will a straw texture at best, no...it felt reasonably soft compared to what I was expecting. \r \r I would also like to give some credit to Melanie or dried my hair and gave me some nice tips on styling long hair! more

I AM STUCK ON SCISSORS HAIR STUDIO!!!! 8/7/2010

My last visit AWESOME! My hair and the color was unreal! Samone herself is a very sweet, generous, and talented individual! What's even better is so is her staff! I will not go anywhere else! I am always refreshed when I leave and I can get everything I need to pamper myself right there. Seriously Scissors is actually a SPA plus Studio. It's taken a while for me to find that right person and place! I am so greatful to have found her! Ya'll know what I mean! When you find someone who knows what they are doing and proves it everytime you visit you tend to pray they never stop doing hair or move. Making my next appointment now because I am so totally due for a day to myself! more

WARNING DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE! 7/23/2010

At first I had a great review of this place but as I looked at my hair, my mom and I both began to realize that my once gorgeous hair was mutilated. She colored the front, left the crown my root color and did not put any color in the back. There were huge streaks of orange all over the right side of my hair. I subsequently went to a reputable salon, to a well-respected colorist who has significant experience and it took him 2 and a half hours to undo what she did to my hair!! He said that this was the result of an unexperienced stylist and to never ever set foot there again. He also told me that he has to do the same thing for 3 or 4 other people who had had their hair butchered at Scissors, this year alone. Do not be fooled by all these positive reviews, he also explained that he has learned from the majority of reputable stylist in Richmond that the owner writes them herself!!! He has been in the business for over 20 years and every single stylist in the salon knew about Scissors and how they were known for butchering people's hair. Do not be fooled by all these reviews, I went into this place expecting a beautiful color and instead left $230 dollars poorer and with orange streaked hair. I did not do anything to my hair to cause it to turn orange, I did not wash it or go out in the sun, I got home and burst into tears. This is not a false claim, I was there last Friday, I have a picture to prove it plus my mother's credit card receipt. DO NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR THIS SALON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cons: coloring capabilities, over priced, more

Customer For Life! 6/27/2010

After I had done some research on the Internet for a new salon, I had decided to drive all the way from Charlottesville to Richmond to try a cut and color from Simone. Let me tell you.... it was well worth the drive! Simone had asked me what my personality was like since it was my first time there and what kind of color and cut would make me happy. After showing some pictures I had brought along and explained to her that I wanted something a little edgy, Simone delivered the exact color and cut I had been hoping for for years, but had never received - even from the top salons in Charlottesville. As far as the price goes, it was a bargain compared to the prices I have been paying for in Cville. Everyone in the salon was extremely friendly and attentive. Scissors Hair Studio has made me a customer for life! Pros: Great service/price, perfect haircut and color more

Wow!!! 6/11/2010

So...shall I begin by explaining exactly how unlucky I am? If there is a raffle, I hover in the back of the crowd glancing doubtfully at my crumpled ticket stub. Not a winner. If there is a short straw to be drawn, I'll draw it. If I dare to venture out into the world of Hair Salons, I am always unimpressed and inevitably much poorer than when I walked in. That is...I WAS always unimpressed. So much so that in a fit of desperation I made the ultimate mistake of attempting to cut my own hair. And style it, mind you. Needless to say, it was lopsided and less than attractive. After avoiding mirrors for a few weeks, I bit the bullet and searched for a nearby stylist who had, at least, mediocre reviews. After checking CitySearch, I found Scissors and was amazed by the 189 glowing reviews! I had been there before to get a Manicure and Pedicure and remember being very impressed with the job that they did. Hair, however, is a different story isn't it? So, with much trepidation I made the appointment. I was greeted at the door by friendly faces and I love the fact that they offer each new customer a tour of the salon. It's so much more personable than being rushed from the door to a chair and then back to the door again. At Scissors, Simone really works to make each client feel comfortable. I went in, with a vague idea of what I wanted but mostly I just wanted change. I wanted to highlight my drab dark hair and even out my terrible self-given haircut. Simone went over some hairstyle magazines with me and advised me on some ideas, helping to mold a more clear picture of what would look good on me. Immediately, I trusted her. I handed her the reins and told her to go for it. And boy, did she ever! The highlights are unbelievable! The hair cut is gorgeous!! How she was able to even out the chop job that I had done, is beyond me. She's a magician. The salon is comfortable, eclectic and sassy in style, and the staff is warm and friendly. After months of trying to part my hair on the right, Trina showed me that my hair naturally parts on the left. And would you believe, it looks 50 times better that way? In all of my years of marathon salon tryouts, I have never been so happy with a find. It appears my luck has finally changed! Pros: Where do I begin? more

AMAZING! 5/6/2010

Scissors Hair Studio SAVED me…\r \r A few weeks ago I got highlights at a JCPenney’s salon in Richmond. I told the lady “natural looking and NOT bulky” When I looked in the mirror I wanted to cry. My hair was bright yellow on top with huge chunks of whitish yellow throughout, while the bottom of my hair remained my natural light brown color. I ended up going back the next day because it just looked that bad. The lady put in some low lights which toned down some of the yellow, but it still looked awful. When my eyes starting watering some of the staff came over to me and proceeded to lecture me on highlights and how I should have been clear on what I wanted done.\r \r For the past three weeks I attempted to fix my hair with at home hair dye kits. First I tried a medium blonde. When that didn’t work I tried a light neutral blond, then a week later a medium neutral blonde. My hair ended up turning this ugly orangey color and the bad highlights were still visible. I didn’t want to go out of my apartment.\r \r I am new to the Richmond area so I didn’t really know what salons were around and which ones did a decent job. I mean you would think JCPenney would be good right? \r \r I googled “hair salon Richmond VA” and sorted my search by ratings. Scissors Hair Studio came up with about 200 ratings of 5 stars. I spent a good while reading the reviews people posted. It sounded like the salon was worth going to.\r \r I called around 11:30am to try to schedule an appointment; sure I was going to have to wait a few days. I told them about my horrible hair experience at JCPenneys/at home hair dying and they said “Can you be by 12:30?” Wow! \r \r As soon as I walked in I could see why people liked this place so much. I was greeted by Melanie who gave me a tour of the salon. I was amazed by the style of the place and all of the services offered. Unlike the stylists at JCPenney, the stylists at Scissors Hair Studio consult with you and with each other before even touching your hair. Melanie did my hair was the stylist who did my hair and never once did I feel rushed to make a decision.\r \r When I saw the three tubs of color I was a little nervous. But when Melanie dried my hair and I looked in the mirror I was speechless. It looked WONDERFUL! The orange and yellow were all gone. It turned into a beautiful natural looking ash blonde with highlights that blended so well together and looked great against my skin tone. Melanie gave me a lot tips on how to maintain the color and keep my hair healthy as well as how to dry it with the round brush to make it flow like celebrities hair often does. \r \r The entire experience at Scissors Hair Studio is amazing. I will never go anywhere else to have my hair done. I am actually going back in a few weeks to my hair conditioned and nails done : )\r \r So anyone who needs a hair cut, or wants highlights/coloring and aren’t sure what you are looking for keep in mind you are taking a risk by going to chain hair salons. Give Scissors Hair Studio a try. You will not be disappointed!\r Pros: friendly staff, comfortable environment, top service more

Best haircut ever 4/24/2010

My hair is baby fine and it has been years of trial & error on finding the right person to cut it. Simone was able to make my hair feel and look 2X thicker! I'm definitely going back! Pros: Fine hair expert - growing it long Cons: - more

Best Haircut ever 4/15/2010

I just had my second hair cut from Simone- I have never had a real professional cut my hair- almost always a military cut from a 3 minute military barber. What a difference going to a real professional makes- my wife and daughter go to Simone and they convinced me to give it a try- very happy I did. I never thought much about my hair- other than it was there. Now I am receiving compliments and it just looks great- Simone also showed me different products that really make a difference and since I swim a lot, she told me how to keep the chlorine out of my hair. I really recommend these folks- every one who works in Simone's salon are very friendly and I have no doubt about their skills. Thanks- see you next month. Chris Pros: Nice folks; Great Work more

Best Hair Salon in Richmond! 4/13/2010

I just came from my second appointment at Scissors and once again, I'm extremely happy with my hair!\r \r I have lived in Richmond for almost 10 years and have tried several other Salons like Nesbit, Mango, and Visions - I have never gone more thana a few times because I never experienced what I was looking for. But not as Scissors. My first appointment went really well. I chose the salon based on it's location, the reviews, and mainly because the lead Stylist, Simone, specializes in long hair.\r \r My whole experience was wonderful the first time and was even better the second time because we were more familiar with eachother. Simone and her staff are very kind and knowledgable. They make you feel at home by showing you the salon and offering you anything to drink. My first visit, during my consultation, Simone suggested that I get some highlights which is something I had been wanting to do but had been traumatized from very bad highlights in high school. Simone assured my that it would looke natural and it did - it was exactly what I wanted and what fit my personality. She took all factors into consideration, such as how much time I""m willing to spend on my hair (which is fairly minimal on a day to day basis). I was so pleased that she actually listened to me and gave me a hairdo that fit me.\r \r My second visit (that I just came from), she trimmed up my hair and then took the time to show my a quick, fun, formal style that I could do to my hair. What fun! I have never had a hair dresser do that - usually they can't wait to get you out of the door.\r \r I am already looking very forward to my third visit! Pros: Great stylist, awesome people. more

CRAZY GOOD!! 4/6/2010

I am spoiled when it comes to my hair. If a salon doesn't exceed my expectations the first time, I will not even look back. I hadn't had my hair done in nearly 7 months so as I was researching, Scissors was the one that stood out the most with excellent ratings. \r I took this on as a challenge. I have only been satisfied with one hair dresser and that was back when I lived in Texas. I must say, Simone was just wonderful! When I first walked through the door, she greeted me with enthusiasm and offered a Chai Latte.. which that was awesome! \r I ususally spend a good 3 hours at the salon but she cut that literally in half. Simone did an awesome job. They took an after picture of me so if you can check out their facebook, i'm sure it will be up there.\r \r Incredible. I love this place! Pros: very different atomosphere, great quality employees Cons: parking, easy to miss location if not looking good enough more

The first cut is the deepest.. 4/1/2010

I am one of those girls who has to wait long periods of time before I will get on the other end of a pair of scissors! Nevertheless, the time had come and I was looking all over the city for a place that could cut and fix the color(s) in my hair. I have been to other salons (usually because a good friend has recommended them to me...) only to have the hair stylist go on a RAMPAGE (can you relate?). Anyway, Simone (the owner...) is amazing at listening well. I had some coloring issues (I wanted to avoid 'bleach' and stick to a high lift color that used low levels of ammonia etc.). She was able to show me some pictures and I brought one of my own (for an idea about a cut I was interested in). She gave me a beautiful cut and color that was more than I expected. I think Simone has not only created a wonderful salon but she has the respect and integrity to meet the demands of women who don't want it all cut off...Way to go Simone...! Pros: Great colors...great cuts Cons: forgot to give me a 'chop stix' lesson (but that's ok!) more

The BEST boutique hair salon & full service spa! 3/23/2010

I am a frequent visitor to Richmond, and wouldn't go anywhere else but Scissors for hair care or spa services. Simone is a talented professional who knows just what needs to be done to achieve your best look. My hair has never looked better! I especially love the Keratin Complex Treatment she recommended to straighten my curly hair to make it mooth and silky. It''s wonderful! \r \r Her staff is equally professional and skilled. Melanie gives the best manicures/pedicures! Dreena gives the most wonderful facials! All of the staff, including Simone, educate you with helpful information about what they are doing, why, and provide helpful tips.\r \r The salon is inviting and charming--from the furnishings & decorations to the refreshments provided. They are all very attentive and make you feel so welcome! Then, there is the fabulous jewelry!! I have to allow extra time during my appointment just for jewelry shopping!\r \r I wouldn't go anywhere else. My advice is to be open to their suggestions and trust their professional advice....you won't be disappointed!\r \r Pros: Great hair color/cuts/spa services! Friendly staff! Jewelry! more

so-so 3/23/2010

I went in for a haircut and ended up pretty unhappy. I was a little annoyed that the stylist explained every single thing she was doing. I also had to tour the entire two-story salon before she would cut my hair. On the other hand, the ladies are very nice. Overall, I think you can get the same quality haircut for less time and money somewhere else. Pros: very sweet stylists Cons: unskilled stylists, take too long explaining everything more

Saturday Fun 3/23/2010

I booked three appointments for last Saturday for my sister's birthday. We had a fabulous time at the studio. We were right after two wedding parties and had the place to ourselves with Simone, Melanie, Casey and Dreena. \r \r Studio: This place is great. It is a small boutique style shop. Yes, it is cluttered but to me, it adds to the charm. Since we were having several services done it was nice to look through all the jewelry for sale. It is really cozy and stylish.\r \r Welcome: When we came in, we were immediately taken on a tour. Everyone was very friendly. We had a small mix up with the time (I didn't get a chance to check my last email confirmation, luckily, we got a call that morning and we were there on time...email confirmations are one of my fav things, when I get to check for them!), they offered to get us lunch. Dreena put in the call and then Casey went to pick it up. We were offered mimosas, fruit and popcorn in the meantime.\r \r Spa: My mom and I got the wrap pedicure with this new crystal mud. The crystal mud was fun and squishy. All I can say about the pedicure's from Melanie and Dreena were just amazing. I also have to say thank you to Melanie for letting me talk her ear off. I don't relax easily and she was so nice and completely willing to chat. Yes, the massage did shut me up..it was fabulous. So my only major con was that there were only two massaging chair so when my sister had her pedicure done she was in a regular chair and she was the birthday girl. However, the pedicures themselves were fabulous and I only wish I could do it every week.\r \r Waxing: Melanie did both my sister's and my eyebrows. Great job, mine were what I wanted, she helped me reshape as I had a rather sharp curve in my arch and the smoothed it out a bit. They use the stripless wax there which is my preferred type of wax.\r \r Salon: Simone did an awesome job coloring and cutting my sister's hair. I was not there during it so all I can say is when I saw her....it looked awesome! Simone really knows how to pick a color, my sister wanted just brown but Simone got her to do some red in it and it really made her eyes pop. Dreena cut my mom's hair (a spur of the moment add on service). I was also really impressed with the cut. As my mom puts it, she has thin scandinavian hair that just doesn't do much. Dreena did an awesome short cut that looked great straight or curled (as my mom prefers it). \r \r Pricing: I think the prices definitely match the service.\r \r This was a great way to spend the afternoon for my sister's birthday. Thanks to everyone there! Pros: Small Boutique Feel Cons: Only two massage chairs for Pedicures more

Big thanks to simone 3/21/2010

I just want to say thank you to Simone and all of the staff at sissors! I am not the kind of girl who goes to the salon all the time. It took me hours of reading reviews and researching slaons to dicide where to go. I went into sissors with a big knot in my stomach and a full head of multi-colored (what i thought was) ruined hair. I had an ""at home"" hair disaster my hair was natural color at the top, bright blond almost white in the middle, and a terrible orange/brown color at the bottom. Whent I walked into to sissors with my anxiety level at the top I was instantly greeted with smiles, a tour of the salon, and total comfort. Simone sat me down, found out exactly what I wanted to have accomplished, and what my buget was. She explained how she could fix it and exactly what she was going to do which continued through the whole service every step of the way. when I walked out of sissors my hair looked amazing and my confidence level was soaring!! I felt beautiful!!! I will be a life long costumer I am going back next week to become a full blond and to get a tan- The staff at sissors totally changed my view on salons and I would rate my visit at the highest level in everything (comfort, quality, and overall satisfaction Love Lauren Pros: Best salon experience I have ever had Cons: what cons? more
