Have to admit, husband was right 3/24/2012

My husband has been raving about this restaurant for months. I went to see Jesus Christ Superstar with a friend and made reservations for 5:30. The play ended at 4. Took a chance to see if I could be seated early. Not a problem at all. Food was delicious. I had the seafood ravioli from the specials. Excellent. She had the pumpkin ravioli and said the same. We then ordered dessert. She ordered a souffle and they told her they make it fresh and it would take 20 minutes, was that okay. We weren't in a rush and as the restaurant filled up, they never once made us feel hurried. We were there about 2 hours. I must admit that my husband was right. Great food, reasonable price for Times Square area. Will definitely go back. more

Awfull 1/11/2011

Terrible wine. first bottle was bad - expensive too (and not just corked) & the 2nd was not much better- they did not ask me how it was - 2009 vintage but tasted like it had been stored improperly ( warm ). I only ordered a young wine hoping it had not gone bad like the first. Had Carpaccio for the appetizer - it was good, after that it went way downhill. My veal medallions were clearly pork & the capers in the sauce were very large, ie...the inexpensive type. My wife's meal was worse, not worth repeating. Chose the location as it was next to the theater where Jersey boys was (fantastic). I should have realized how it might be when I asked a worker at the tavern next door how the food was - they replied, ""well it is busy)"" They would say no more. The desert was bad as well. Would not go for free ! more

Wonderful Experience! 1/30/2010

I took my 9 year old daughter to NYC to see her first show. She did very well with the ten hour trip but by the second day it was starting to wear her down. Not thinking before we left for the show I gave her some cold medicine that just made her even more tired. Pros: Customer Service more

Diners Beware! 12/30/2009

NEXT!!! Pros: Fast Food When Seated Cons: Rude Service, Mediocre & Overpriced Food, and Loud more

excellent food 11/10/2009

Noisy restaurant-we were five ladies-table next to us complained to waiter that we talked too loudly-he asked us to shush-we went to mangr. who said""what do you want me to do?"" If we were with men the waiter would never approached us. The waiter should have spoken to the mngr., not us. Stupidly, we gave him a tip. We should have given him nothing(he insulted us, we should have insulted him). Shame on the restaurant!!!Because of how we were treated, we will never return. We were not any more noisy than what it took to be heard. Pros: excellent food Cons: terrible accoustics-extremely noisy-poorly treated more

Closing Soon 8/16/2009

I've lived across from Scarlatto since it opened and must have eaten there dozens of times. It's an example of a good idea gone really bad over time. They started out okay, with decent and somewhat overpriced dishes. However, the kitchen changed, waiters changed, bartenders changed. Not for the better. Today, the restaurant is pretty much done. I strongly recommend you take your business somewhere worth your hard-earned recession dollars. Pros: Not many left Cons: Food, Service, Ambience more

Great little Italian restaurant in Theatre district! 12/11/2008

My husand and I had the best experience at Scarlatto. The restaurant was packed before a show and the service was exceptional. The food was so good! Thanks for a wonderful night before the Theatre! Try the Tortellini in vodka sauce and the warm apple pie! more

Good pasta, Moderate prices for NY 8/7/2008

Eaten there every week for the last four weeks. The service has been good. I've eaten with friends and at the bar but never with a big group. It has reasonable prices for their food. I like the octopus appetizer, in the pastas, the spaghetti meatballs, rigatoni carbonara and the tagliarini with lamb sauce. I also enjoyed the 12 oz steak! Medium rare! and of course the osso bucco. Pros: Good pastas Cons: too dark and the bartender would not change the channel for me. more

You Must Try!!! 4/15/2008

I have been living in New York for 4 years now and I have been to Scarlatto at least twice a month for the last two years and I have never been disapointed. This is such a nice restaurant. The food is always tasty and well prepared. Try the specials, I love the Lamb Chop and the Branzino. The service is excellent and friendly, you can fell the good energy. The prices are great and the quality always at the top. Everytime we bring friends there they really appreciate the experience and are coming back. I simply love Scarlatto! Pros: The ambience and food! Cons: I can't think of any. more

im going back! 2/17/2008

amazing! the best italian i had in a long time. i had caprese, veal scallopine and tiramasu for $29. it was packed, fun vibe. the manager personally served us. we had the perfect date night before seeing November. i highly recommend it-fine dining experience within my budget :) Pros: outstanding food, great location, good service more

Walked Out 2/8/2008

Went there pre-theater tonight with my mother early at 5:45 with a reservation. It was fairly empty. When we ordered my mother asked for no crouton in her onion soup (she hates parmesan). The waitress said ""no substitutions"". We said we just want to leave something OUT not substitute. She said the chef would not deviate from the menu which meant I couldn't have chicken instead of veal prepared in a dish or onions left off my salad (I'm allergic). When we called over a manager, she was completely unapologetic and arrogant. She said ""We don't make substitutions"". We said, ""you don't mind if we leave then..."" and left. Rude and poor customer service to say the very least. Cons: NO EXCEPTIONS/SUBSTITUTIONS/DELETIONS to menu more

not good for group parties 10/24/2007

i called to make a reservation for a group of 15. i was told to call someone on their cell phone to reserve the space since it's a big group. i did and the guy laughed at me when i asked if it'd be possible to get a private room. ok, fine. more

A Major Disappointment 8/6/2007

You expect that there will be variables in other's experiences of a restaurant. But, the Scarlatto that we dined at on August 2, 2007 bears no resemblance to any of the reviews described herein. The food and service were simply horrible!!! more

Perfect Pre-Theater Italian 7/30/2007

We ate at Scarlatto on July 25th before seeing a Broadway play. The restaurant was full and it is no wonder because the food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. We were seated quickly. Drinks were so-so and the service was inconsistent with long waits between courses. Our server forgot a drink order. Breads were great. Our salads with pear and gorgonzola were tasty and well-made. Our entrees of veal saltimbocca and soft-shell crabs were first-rate. Most entrees are priced at $20 or less. We had Panna Cotta for dessert which we liked. Service issues aside, it is a wonderful place to dine. Pros: prices, quality and presentation of food, location in heart of theater district Cons: inconsistent service, noisy more

Not just a theatre district restaurant! 5/6/2007

It should not be considered just "" a theatre district"" restaurant, it is worth the trip from anywhere in or out of the city! Scarlatto's food, wine and atmosphere is outstanding. I eat out 4x a week and I have to stop myself from making it Scarlatto's each and everytime. I have never been disappointed in the food, whether I've ordered the Monk fish, lamb chops or pasta -- delicious each time. The atmosphere is cozy, inviting, yet upscale -- it would be a great choice for a get together with friends or a first date. Pros: great food, service and atmosphere more

A restaurant that doesn't understand the meaning of the word ""reservation"" 4/22/2007

If you have theater plans, avoid this theater district restuarant. I recently had a 6 PM reservation, booked through opentable, and was made to wait until 6:30 to be seated. In the theater district, where people are often eating before a show, this is completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, instead of being honest with us, the hostesses repeatedly told us our table was ""just being set up."" This was a blatant lie, since they had no empty tables, and two other parties ahead of us who hadn't been seated either. Pros: food Cons: having to wait for a half-hour past my reservation time more

Great service, great food ! 3/26/2007

I made reservations for dinner at Scarlatto on 03/20/07 and did it on their website earlier that day. I told them that it was going to be my first time there and was bringing a date who I wanted to impress. This was also going to be my first date w/ her. Well, we got to the rest. and the very attractive rest. hostess and assistant accomodated us with what I wanted. (perfect table on the second floor where it was quieter so I can listen to my date and of course where it was more romantic.) I thank them very much......Well the food was fantastic ! The menu has numerous entrees, appertizers, etc. A wonderful selection. I had the Monk fish with a side of tortellini filled with pumpkin. It was fantastic. Very tasty. My date wasn't daring and ordered grilled chicken which the serving was huge. Although I had a little difficulty trying to understand our waiter who had this great and wonderful Italian accent, he was very helpful with choosing a great tasting red wine. He was very attentive during dinner. He was great. I thank him....There is a nice bar when u walk in to the right. The restaurant is very nicely decorated. It' s convenient to the theater district. It was a Tuesday evening and the atmosphere was great. Alot of customers on the ground floor having a great time. The feeling wasn't claustophobic. Don't know how it is on the weekend. But regardless, with the superb staff I'm sure they won't disappoint. They were quick with serving our food. Didn't have to wait long. The price for dinner and wine wasn't expensive. It was worth every penny. I will definetly return to this restaurant. No doubt about it. And soon too ! ............. Pros: Great food and selection, superb staff, theater district, close to time square Cons: Can't think of one. Wish there was one in Jersey ! more

Amazing pasta selection and romantic upscale ambience 2/19/2007

I recently took my boyfriend here for his birthday after hearing about this place from other couples. It's dimly lit inside which makes it incredibly romantic and upscale. I was so impressed by the pasta selection and wanted to try all of it! We ordered the potato gnocchi (amazing) and I got the pollo milanese which was so refreshing. My boyfriend is a bit of a thinly-sliced-chicken-parmesan connoisseur and he wasn't in love with his piece since it was verging on medium thickness, but I thought it was delicious. The pumpkin ravioli and macaroni and cheese looked great as well. I'd definitely go back! Pros: ambience, close to Theatre District, great menu Cons: so many yummy things to choose from hard to pick just one more
