Editorial review from Citysearch 9/6/2012

Extremely slow service does not help the so-so food quality. This place is close to my office so I've been there a couple of times for lunch, and one time for dinner when I was working late. I won't go back again. Service is always extremely slow -- I suspect they've got just one cook in the kitchen working. Once I was the only customer there around 11:45 and I didn't see the waiters working any takeout orders, yet my pad-see-ieu took at least 20 minutes. Even the soup took longer than I'd ever experienced at any Thai restaurant. Everything I've tried is just so-so, hence I cannot recommend this place. more

Worst Service - Food Not Much Better 3/13/2010

If your day has been just a little too good, and you're looking to eat bad food and be treated worse, head to Sewadee. My wife and I made the trip and experienced the worst service we've ever had. Upon entering we waited while the owner watched TV and chatted with her friends for a few minutes before seating us. She apologized and said it was so busy - there were only three groups dining and about 20 empty tables. Almost empty. (If that?s busy, I don?t know how they stay in business. It may better for everyone if they weren?t.) We were seated next to a group that seemed to know the owner. She chatted with them loudly and brought several dishes for them to try before we ever had the chance to order or even had drinks. We finally ordered and after about 40 minutes, our food was delivered - to the other table. After her friends picked out of it, and about 10 minutes passed, the waiter casually said sorry and just grabbed the plates and put them in front of us. As if we were supposed to eat what was left after the owner's friends had their fill. We requested new dishes and after another wait (the restaurant was still quite empty), our food arrived. Though warm and properly delivered, it was bland and uninspired. We thought about leaving before the food came back the second time, but said, ""maybe it's good, let's give them a second chance."" Mistake. Should have left. Save yourself the trouble and don't go. Unless you have a taste for bad food and bad service. I would have been better served burning my money and having someone slap me in the face. At least I wouldn't have had to suffer through that terrible meal. We love good Thai food - any Asian cuisine. And Houston has many great restaurants. Try any one of the others - you'll have a much better experience. Cons: Poor service, apathetic management, bland food more

Great Thai! 1/18/2010

I've only been twice, but the food and the service were good both times. First time I ordered the spicey shrimp dish...Yumm-yumm! The next time I ordered the spicey squid & seafood dish. OMG it was so good. Fresh veggies. Squid was tender. Cucumber soup was way delish. I highly recommend this place. Pros: Awesome food, great selection, good service Cons: parking more

Amongst the TOP Thai in Houston 4/7/2007

I have not been very impressed with the Thai in H-town, but the food at Sawadee is unquestionably good. Been here twice now, and both visits were quite satisfying, although my main course entrees were better the first time around. Definitely try that chicken with sweet basil and hot peppers. The penang chicken is also very well put together. Avoid what I had the second time around-namely, chicken with kaffir lime leaves and green beans. The dish was obnoxiously greasy, and it tasted like the chef poured half a bottle of fish sauce into the pan. Overall, the service is capable and responsive, and the food is definitely worth a try. More authentic than other Thai joints. more

Great Thai 11/24/2006

Love the Pad Thai with chicken. Great quality food with quick service. It is a bit out of the way on a little side street near whole foods. Pros: Great Thai food Cons: hole in the wall more

Best Thai in Houston 11/7/2006

BEST THAI FOOD IN HOUSTON 7/6/2006

People of America and of course, City search there is really great Thai food in the Houston area that I have tried! The restaurant is called Sawadee which means hello in Thai. And what a hello I received when I ate their great authentic Thai curries and noodles. The curry there is just refined and their pad thai is great. Don' t fall for the fast fake Thai food. Go to Sawadee and say hello. Pros: THE AUTHENTIC FOOD Cons: absolutely nothing! more

Possibly the Best Thai food in town 5/27/2006

When I moved to Houston 2 years ago, I searched and searched for excellent Thai food. I've tried several places with high ratings on Citisearch but found most of them to be good but not excellent. Sawadee, in my opinon, is excellent. We ordered the chicked pad thai (patt thai on the menu), the chicken satay, the spring rolls, chicken paenag, and the yellow curry chicken. Our group loved every item that we ordered. This restaurant is worth driving into town for!! more

Excellent food. 4/3/2006

The chicken pad thai is great, and the green curry beef is incredibly spicy - but delicious. Soft spring rolls are always fresh and enjoyable too. The restaurant is clean, but nothing fancy. Most people order take-out, but the staff is always friendly, and you'll often see the owner there. Haven't ordered anything I didn't like yet. Pros: Great food, Decent price, Lots of variety more

Gotta try these... 7/20/2005

You must try the Seafood Pancake, Beef Satay, and the entree of choice Spicy Honey Pork. Those are my favorite, but everything is good! Owners and staff are very friendly, and the huge fish and coral aquarium are very pleasant. Not your usual Thai place, Sawadee has more sophistication to their food. more

Good Thai in the neighborhood 9/8/2004
