Best

i've been here for a year and had trouble finding authentic pizza in houston.... and this place rocks. great food, reasonable price, new york friendliness. really! : ) that's a go...

Worst

I love NY pizza. So when I hear the reviews of Romano's, I went. I fail to see the comparison to their pizza and NY pizza other than the general circular appearance. It was not...

Best NYC style pizza in H-town 4/7/2007

As a native New Yorker, this place undoubtedly makes what I consider to be the best replica of the pizza I grew up on back at home. There are three notable attributes, in my eyes, that qualify this place as the best pizza in Houston (or rather the best NY style pizza): 1) Thin crust- the crust is very light, yet not overcooked, and the end crust is airy. 2) The appropriate ratio of cheese to pizza sauce. 3) U can fold it. I should note that I did not eat there, but instead opted for take-out. Service was prompt, as I expected. Go there. You will NOT be disappointed. more

Poor Service 3/9/2007

My date ordered a salad and I ordered a slice of cheese pizza. My pizza didnt come out after 15 minutes to my table. I had to go ask where it was then they gave it to me. That defeats the whole purpose of a place where you take a number to your table to have them bring it out. The pizza was good when I finally got it. My date said the salad was not very good. more

hands-down the best pizza in htown!!!... 1/24/2007

...and honestly, ranks way up there on my list of favorites regardless of location. you won't necessarily get your choice of interesting/exotic pies, but they perfect the types and toppings offered. quite sadly, however, i often only get to order a single slice. the romano's baked ziti is the best i've ever had, and i find it too hard to pass up when there. along with the ziti, they offer many other classic italian dishes. the owners (who are always right behind the counter) are extremely personable, and the atmosphere is as close to 'new york' as one will ever find in houston as well. more

Not quite NY, but as close as possible! 1/18/2007

An Upstate New Yorker displaced in Texas, I have made it my mission to find the best pizza in town. While there are still some flaws to be worked out, such as the fact that they do not make a bunch of specialty slices, but rather just put the items you request on top of cheese and then reheat, this pizza is the closest to the real thing that I've found yet in Houston. Don't go expecting authentic pizza, but it is by far the most acceptable I've found so far. Crust is perfect - I can't believe how hard Texans find it to make the crust crispy yet soft and the right thickness. They don't use cheap crappy cheese, and the sauce is correct pizza sauce, not marinara. Could use a little more salt and oregano in the sauce, though. Overall score with 10 being Pavone's Pizza in Manlius, this place scores a 7.5. Good enough for this New Yorker and MILES above the NY Pizzerias and Gotham Pizzas in this neighborhood. Give it a try! You'll be pleasantly suprised. more

It Rocks! 12/5/2006

I live two blocks around the corner from this place. The first time I saw this place, I thought, this is just some strip mall pizzaria. I was WRONG! I got addicted to their Lasagna, and then I tasted their pizza. Whoa! I will never again eat another pizza from another place unless someone else is paying for it. My Uncle is from N.Y. and he was coming down here for a wedding. He wanted some decent pizza. I took him to Romanos and he said it was as good or even better that N. Y. pizza. Folks, this pizza place will get bigger in the next 2 years. Enjoy it while it is in its infant stage. Because in its infant stage, it remains pure, good and reliable! Pros: Best Italian Food more

What a wonderful surprise! 11/20/2006

I've always been turned off by the location of the joint, but finally decided to give it a try after several recommendations. I'm so happy I did. Such yummy food, and so much of it! The Baked Ziti gets two thumbs up. It's better for take-out than dining-in as it's quite loud and a lil cramped. Pros: The Baked Ziti, Huge portions Cons: The restaurant isn't the best for dining in more

The ONLY pizza I'll eat in Houston! Delicious. 10/4/2006

I'm so lucky to have Romano's around the corner from me. It's without a doubt the best pizza I've had in Houston. It reminds me of the pizza I had when I lived in New York... It's delicious. more

slice as big as my head 8/14/2006

Get a slice, and share w/ a friend. Its tooo big. Great pizza. Yes a little more expensive than what I'm use to. But then a picasso is more expensive than a velvet elvis painting. Pros: your kids will love the pizza, plenty of parking Cons: little more expensive. But hey, I pay for coffee at starbucks, so Im not complaining. more

Best pizza anywhere 8/6/2006

I love the thin, crispy crust on the pizza. The margarita pizza beats my own because of the crust. The lasagna is just right. A very friendly, family operation at the Memorial location. Pros: casual, great pizza, fast service more

Best Pizza in Houston 8/1/2006

This is the best pizza in Houston!!! Being from New York which in my opinion has the best pizza. This place stole my heart the first time I tried it. My kids, born and raised in Houston, knew nothing about good pizza, all they ever tried was Pizza Hut and those other places which I don't like. One taste of pizza from Romano and bam, we always have to make that trip from the Northwest side because now they won't eat anything else. I'm just waiting for one to be builded in the 290 area, hint, hint. more

Pizza Reminds me of Home - New York! 7/29/2006

The pizza is awesome! I am from New York, and this pizza is the real thing!!! I have been in Houston since 1986, and this is the best pizza that I have tasted outside of NY! more

Best pizza and calzone in town! 7/16/2006

Mr. Frank and Mr. Vinny work their tails off to deliver the best tasting Italian fare in town. The red sauce, the white sauce, the pasta, the pizza, the calzone, the meatballs, the garlic bread are all unbeatable for the taste, not to mention the price. We go every week to this eatery and our kids eat very well too. They are opened 7days a week and late, so yOu can go in wearing your grubs or your work clothes, everyone is welcomed, dressed as you are, anytime. Just wish they'd expand their wine selection...... nah.....forgetaboutit! Pros: Best pizza and calzone in town Cons: Limited wine selection more

Love their Manicotti 7/8/2006

I think you get a great deal for your money here! Salad and garlic bread are included with all the entrees and the food is so very good for the price. And you can even get wine with your meal. It has a really neat New York meets Houston atmosphere. Pros: Tasty, gerat marina sauce, a lot for the money more

Fahgehtuhbout anything else! 4/15/2006

Another transplanted NJ convert. Sometimes I think their pizza is better than back home. I live in the Bay Area now. Ten million people here, yet the pizza doesn't even come close to Romano's. I told one of the guys I was moving to California during my last visit. He said, ""Don't die in an earthquake."" Now that's a New Yorker. Pros: pizza, pizza, pizza Cons: salad, salad, salad more

The BEST Pizza in Houston 1/28/2006

Another Italian transplant from New York. My family eats at Romano's every week. Everyone we have told about it is now a regular. If you like real New York style pizza, this is the real thing. We go to both locations. Memorial location is better suited to families. Pros: Pizza Cons: No Delivery more

great find in strip mall hell 11/25/2005

we have eaten here several times and the chicken and pasta dishes are great.the pizza is good and the garlic bread is the best! more

Best thin crust in Houston 11/7/2005

I hail from NY and have lived in Houston for over 10 years. Until I recently heard about Romano's I suffered through pretty average (at best!) pizza. Romano's is anything but that, with a crust and sauce like the real deal. Always friendly with a game on tv, no pretentions, just solid fare. My wife, who is from here, isn't a big fan of thin crust pizza, but likes the other standard Italian dishes. Pros: Pizza, Standard Italian food, Friendliness more

Memorial Drive Location: Wonderful food for the $ 10/18/2005

Super food at great prices at their new location on Memorial Drive! Wonderful fresh pasta and warm welcome from staff...sounds like W. Gray, only now in W. Houston. Tables are close and were sometimes slow to be cleaned (on the night of our visit). But, hey, make some new friends at the table nearby and share a carafe of wine! Pros: Quality, Value, Warm welcome Cons: Table availability more

fabulous 8/24/2005

the food is excellent , the lasagna is a great price , it comes with a salad and bread , the pizza is fab!! The cashier is as cute as she can be! Pros: hot guys&hot cashier, inexpensive, casual Cons: crowded on weekends more

The best NY style in Houston, 6/12/2005

The best I can say is that whenever I take friends to this place they always return on their own and thank me months later for introducing them to this place. These guys make the best pizza in Houston, and also some fantastic entrees, as good as any Italian restaurant in Houston. Their selection of top qualty ingredients really makes the difference. Great Food, Great Service, Great Value, and TONS of repeat customers; do I really need to say more? more
