We had dinner at Porcelli's over the weekend and we were very disappointed. The service was very slow and the food was very disappointing. Having actually cooked in a upscale Italian restaurant for a long time I did not enjoy Porcelli's attempt at Italian. We had linguine with clams, wild boar ragu, pasta primavera, bruchetta and an over dressed caesar salad. First of all, I shouldn't have ordered a dish in the winter using tomatoes. Seasonality! I should have known better... The entire menu was pretty heavy with ""fresh"" tomatoes. You really should leave them off the menu until they are back in season. Also, if you are going to serve bread in an Italian restaurant, make sure it is authentic, nice crunchy crust with a chewy inside. Get a different bread supplier. The caesar would have been alright if it wasn't over dressed. The linguine with clams came to the table literally swimming in a broth, in the 30 years I have been in the restaurant business, I have never seen this! The clams were ok, but all the liquid really made the dish a mess. The wild boar ragu, which the server raved about, tasted like BBQ sauce and it drowned out the taste of the boar. The pasta primavera was unexciting and when it came to the table and you order a pasta dish, you expect pasta... There were maybe 15-20 pieces of pasta! For the price of the food, we expected much better. We live close and thought we would give it a try and we are sorry to say we will not be back. I have also never seen this before, at the end of our meal, we were presented with a credit card machine to pay. They left it at our table and we had to print out the receipt! It was not a very welcoming place, the owner seemed put out having to talk to guests waiting for tables. He was lucky, in this ecomomy, to have customers! Smile a little and act like you enjoy what you are doing. I kind of agree with the others who thought it was bad, the owner and staff may be writing the rave reviews. This is sad, because it makes you not trust the reviews for other places.
