Pat's is great (if you're not from Philly). Every neighborhood in Philly has a place that's better than Pat's. Unless, it's 3:00 am or you just want to see some cool autographed p...

Their steak is super nice, great wine selection and a cozy place. Definitely worth coming back. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/6/2012

Visiting from DC, we decided to seek out the best cheesesteaks in town. BEWARE! This place has some of the rudest people working for it and the cheesesteak was not bad but definately not worth the wait or trouble of dealing with rude employees. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 7/25/2012

The staff here is RUDE. I know they are rushed because there is always a line around the buliding but I don't like the unfriendly service. I ordered THE RIGHT WAY and I still got onions on my ""wiz WITHOUT"" but the service was so bad I was too frusterated to go back and complain. I just threw my sandwich out and vowed never to come back. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 7/19/2012

I loved it! We taste tested both Pat's and Geno's and Pat's is the clear winner. We flew to PHL just for this experience (we work for the airline)! Took bus 37 from the airport, then the subway two stops from Broad st. to federal and then walked the rest of the way. Pat's puts the right amount of ""wiz"" in the sandwich and Geno's was a greasy mess. We <3 you Pat! more

Serious steaks 5/17/2012

Thought Pats was a little pricey but the food was great! Really enjoyed our first philly steak experience. more

DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE! 12/10/2011

We are from Texas and were very excited to try an authentic Philly Cheesesteak. We watch The Food Network and had heard great reviews from them and had watched the Pat's vs Genos episode. To our shock the bread was cold, the steak was TASTELESS and overcooked , the cheese not melted , not to mention the staff was rude and the sandwhich extremely OVERPRICED! We feel stupid for listening to the Food Network! I am convinced they recieve a kickback from this restaurant because it all around SUCKED! We wish we would of read these reviews first and not trusted the ""so called"" Food Networks's "" opinion"" ! more

Disappointed at Best 10/22/2011

My husband and I already have a favorite South Philly cheese steak spot and thought that we should try Pat's to see what all the hype was about. Fortunately, the line was short. My biggest disappointment was that my steak was COLD. I mean so cold that it didn't even melt my cheese (I opted for American cheese instead of Whiz this time). I also ordered it ""wit"" or with onions, for non-natives. The onions were almost raw and were more akin to a hot dog condiment than a cheese steak onion that should be sauteed with the meat. The meat, while okay, was in dire need of some salt and pepper. Pat's did not live up to the hype and I'm not even going to attempt the other place across the street. If you want a good cheese steak and a warm place to eat it, go to Jim's on South Street. Still my proven favorite. more

It is not worht wasting your oney, iI would nbot go back again and I would not recommended to anybody........there are better places then this one, look for it. more

Liquid Processed Cheese. All HYPE No SUBSTANCE!! 7/4/2010

My wife is from Sydney, Australia. I have not been on the East Coast in about ten years. We're in Cherry Hill, New Jersey right now. I looked up ""Best Cheese Steaks in Philadelphia"". Pat's comes up. So we drive down to South Philly. First, they don't take anything but cash so I have to go find an ATM. So I get in this huge line and wait my turn. I order two cheese steaks. (About $20) I watch the guy ladle liquid processed cheese from a bucket onto my sandwich. You have to order fries and drinks from the next window down. I order two fries and two drinks. (Another $11) We get a table. All tables are outdoors and the building is a wedge surrounded by inner city roads. Another couple is sitting in their van on the road right next to us eating their food while the car is running. The heat from the engine and exhaust is smothering us. Finally they move their over weight selves down the road. My wife is eating her sandwich when she finds much of the meat has gristle and fat in it. Mine is the same. How disappointing. Pat's is basically an assembly line dealing out sub-standard so-called ""Philly"" cheese steak sandwiches. They mocked John Kerry for asking for Swiss cheese when he ate there but he probably saw the slop they were gonna slather on his sandwich and didn't want that crap. Bottom line: Worst cheese steak ever!! DO NOT BUY INTO THE HYPE!! I WILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN!! Cons: Overpriced, sub-standard food more

Don't walk from here, RUN 9/20/2009

These guys and Geno's across the street both are rude, over priced, and the worst example we could EVER set for the greatest city in America. How the heck one person will stand online for 15 minutes, pay $8.00 for ""half"" of a sandwich, and then not even get a thank you after ordering. They treat you like garbage, yet the lines always there? I don't get it, but there are much better places to go, just ask a ""real"" Philadelphian. Pros: Saw them in a movie Cons: EVERYTHING more

Over rated Philly cheese steak 9/13/2009

I am visiting Philadelphia from Miami with high expectation on Philly Cheese steak. Pat’s place was busy as usual with tourists like myself (holding a camera) here is my take on the cheese steak:\r 1. Bread: was kind of hard not as fresh as it should have been.\r 2. Steak: they cook the steak halfway in advance and they pile them up so steam would finish the cooking. (if you like a tasteless steak mainly due to steam cooking, then this is the steak for you).\r 3. Mushroom: they take the mushroom right out of a jar at room temperature and added to your sandwich at your request. \r 4. Green Pepper: they take the green pepper right out of a jar at room temperature and added to your sandwich at your request. \r 5. Cheese: they take the cheesewhiz right out of a jar at room temperature and added to your sandwich at your request.\r 6. You order your cheese steak and pay for it and pick it up in less than 15 second, then you have to make another line in a different window to order your fries and drink, while your room temperature sandwich is getting colder while you are waiting for your fries and drink.\r Pat’s motto is to serve as fast as they can…quantity vs quality I would not recommend to eat at the Pat’s, just go and take your photos if you must…\r Pros: fast service Cons: quality of food more

Pats or Pizzi 3/12/2009

Pats steaks are ok. There are many little places here and there that have good steaks. I would also try Pizzi on 6th and oregon. Their Fatty Cheese steaks are great. more

Not that great... steaks were hard and made my jaws ""tired"" 3/5/2009

This maybe where Cheesesteak was borned, but it is really not that great to me. The steaks were ""hard"" , my jaw is tired after eating it! The bun is really just ok and I definitely ate better ones in other places. I am not a big cheesesteak eater and I don't eat a lot of them either, but if it doesn't impress me, how can it impress other ""professional"" cheesesteak eaters? I just don't get it... Pros: serves fast, interested environment Cons: steaks quality were not great more

Go Elsewhere 12/14/2008

Pat's, in my opinion, is a tourist trap. As a local, I know many other places where the cheesesteak is MUCH better. Pat's might have invented the cheesesteak, but you can't rest on your laurels. My words of advice: GO ELSEWHERE! Cons: Tourist Trap more

It doesn't get much better! 11/5/2008

As always they wow me with the best cheesteaks ever!\r I have tried all the competition and really this is the best by far! Pros: The best cheesteaks more

Pat's steaks is KING in philly 9/18/2008

Pat's is by far the best, the longest running cheese steak place in America. There are no fancy low class neon lights trying to be like Las Vegas, just good people making something so good it has spawned imitators. The island between 3 different streets is a haven of a truly Philadelphian treat more

Pats and Geno's Worst in Philadelphia 7/7/2008

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion.........some people even like spam. However, anyone that knows cheesesteaks and general good food knows Pats and Genos are the worst cheesesteaks. They live on a reputation that has long since past. It is evident when local Philadelphia magazines or radio stations do their best cheesesteak ratings periodically. These two are never even in the top 20 establishments. The two best are proberly Steves Prince of Steaks and John's which almost always win local Philly media accolades by readers and listeners. There are dozens of places better than Pats and Genos. Pats and Genos cater to uninformed tourists, Saturday night drunks, and people who love fatty stringy, meat. Nobody is hating folks...........its just the truth. \r \r more
