very nice people 8/14/2008

I cannot thank the staff and vets enough for the compassionate care they gave my beloved dog and myself during his last days. The warmth, the caring and professionalism helped me through a very difficult time.\r When I get another dog, I will bring him to Northside. Pros: warmth, compassion, more

WOW! Great vets! 8/6/2008

Drs Leiman, Eisner and Mann are by far the kindest (to people and pets) and most thorough veterinarians I have ever met. I would absolutely have trouble trusting anyone else to provide my cats with such loving care and concern. One of my cats has inflammatory bowel disease, but has not had any problem in that area since Dr Eisner started him on treatment- before he was having an upset stomach in some way or another EVERY DAY. Other vets that I had seen before I came to Brooklyn were unable to provide me with any answers or hope for my baby. Dr Eisner was able to immediately diagnose the problem and provide my cat with a successful treatment. My husband and I have lived in Williamsburg for a year and began to go to this clinic out of convenience- we could walk to it. We are about to move to the upper west side and I have no plans to find a new vet clinic up there. I will take a cab or subway and head to the old neighborhood whenever my kitties need medical treatment. Pros: great vets more

Never again! Overcrowded, Rushed, Waited for ever to be seen 8/5/2008

Had a visit this Monday and will never return. Obviously they are in need of money. Overcrowded, waited 40 minutes for my appointment and then I saw what I must say the worst, most rudest doctor in my cats entire life. My entire 10 minutes appointment with her consisted of scolding me about tests my cat needs. 10 minutes of her time and 30 minutes of me and my cat staring at the wall. Oh yeah, a technician was giving me food infomration. I think she spent more time with me than Dr. Esneir. Was told by the doctor I need to make a decision quick because there are other sick pets waiting for her. W.T.F.!! Still waiting for my test results. Was told I would get a call today and haven't. Called office and results are in per receptionist, but here I am still waiting. Why tell me that we will have results the next day if they do not call. Should have read reviews before coming here. Pros: Front of building nice Cons: Overcrowed, short time spent w/ Dr., Dirty waiting and exam room more

What I have been looking for at an animal hospital. 7/27/2008

I received a notice from my old vet in Queens that my Maltese dog, Flake, was due for her annual exam, DA2PPL ,Lymes, Corona, Bordatella and Rabies vaccine. Since I now live in Greenpoint, at the recommendation of a neighbor, I took Flake to the Northside Vet Clinic for her visit. I was very happy with the advice, care, and concern shown towards Flake and myself. My old vet always looked her over and then gave her the shots, without really discussing ways to make her healthier with diet or supplements. This place was different. The Dr there (I think it was Dr Eisner ) really examined her, called the other vet in to look at her teeth, took some tests, and spent a lot of time talking about her food and ways I could help her painful knees.\r She really cared. Yes it cost a little more than if I had just gotten her shots, but since I was TALKED OUT OF GIVING HER ALL THE VACCINES, it was only a little more than usual. Totally worth it.\r Next month I will get her teeth taken care of:; I finally found a vet I can trust, who cares, and is on the same page as I am. Pros: thorough, caring vet. Clean facility, called the next day with results of tests Cons: small waiting room more

Excellent care 7/25/2008

I brought my dog into Northside Vet Clinic yesterday . Based on reviews I had read online, I was expecting a holistic approach, but I was totally wowed by the overall competent, caring and friendly way they treated my dog with kennel cough. Rather than just throwing antibiotics at him, they took the time and made the effort to treat him in a way that would lessen the chance of undesirable side effects by giving him nebulizing tratments.\r It was a busy day, but they totally took the time to treat him the best way possible.\r He is MUCH better today, almost like normal, and I am so appreciative of the way he was treated I needed to write this note. Pros: Caring, competent , holistic approach Cons: none. more

Very Poor Service - RUDE people 7/25/2008

Rude - Rude - Rude! These people are the most arrogant, condescending, uppity BS artists I have ever encountered! Don't be fooled by the high rating - many of the 5 star reviews are from Dr. Eisner, giving the clinic 5 stars, in response to people's poor ratings. See the post below mine - it's from Eisner herself! \r \r My girlfriend and I decided to give Northside a try, since we now live in the area, but we since decided to go out of our way, back to a much nicer, more competent and professional vetinary clinic.\r \r I am a regular guy, and have never taken the time time to post on sites like this - but in this case, if there was an option of less than 1 star rating, I would give it.\r \r Dr. Eisner and company are EXTREMELY arrogant, amazingly rude, and are really into surprise price gouging. Be prepared if you decide to go to pay double than the quoted prices. They like tacking on additional fees after the fact.\r \r Having moved around quite a bit in Manhattan and now in Brooklyn, I've been to several vets for my dog's regular checkups. This, by far, is the worst. Seriously, if you love your pooch or kitty cat, take them someplace else.\r \r The facility is dirty, and is so small that sick animals are in close proximity to healthy animals. The vibe is very negative, and the employees seem extremely uppity and condescending. My dog hates it when we walk near that place, but has no problem with the other vet clinics. \r \r There are plenty of better, cleaner, and friendlier options in the area. Don't give these people your money. Your little buddy deserves better. Pros: Close Cons: Poor customer service, dirty facility, inflated prices, price gouging, rude more

Doing the best we can for your fur child. 7/14/2008

This is Dr Eisner in response to the last review. Our office manager checks these reviews every week and rightly so. Many criticisms are helpful as we can learn from our clients and become better at what we do.\r However, many criticisms are also unfair and skewed and warrant responses.\r Any kitty that is urinating around the house could have anything ranging from behavioral issues to lower urinary tract disease to bladder stones. In order to arrive at an answer, we must check the urine for pH, , concentration and crystals by doing an analysis. We perform a culture and sensitivity to check for specific bacteria and do an xray to check for stones or tumors in the bladder.. These are correct and specific guidelines set forth by the veterinary community. If people cannot afford these tests we always offer a trial and error response to medication or food changes. If all tests come up normal , we conclude that this is a behavioral problem and considered an anxiety disorder . In addition, the medications that are used for behavioral issues in cats DO NOT make them sleepy as a rule. Behavioral medications usually just take the edge off without any major side effects.\r In conclusion, we pride ourselves in treating many cases with herbal medication and as naturally as possible. Unfortunately, some cases require pharmaceuticals. I have 3 cats of my own and would not be happy to have one of them start urinating around the house. \r If clients would contact us directly instead of writing, skewed, nasty remarks on line , we would be happy to explain our motives and reasonings . \r Any questions can be left at our website email. Sincerely, B. Eisner DVM CVA more

not recommended 7/14/2008

i took my kitty there a few years ago and saw dr barbara eisner. not recommended. they tout themselves as a holistic practice, which was why i sought them out. i took my kitty there when he was being a very bad cat and not using his litter box, but instead using, say, my bed. after an exam and complete work-up to the tune of $300, she ultimately said there was nothing wrong with him and the only thing she could recommend was to put him on a pharmaceutical tranquilizer. won't that really affect his personality, i asked. yes, she said, he'll just sleep all day but he probably won't inappropriately eliminate on everything. great, thanks. so much for holistic.\r \r i did take him there one other time and he was being a bad kitty (recognize a pattern?) and she knocked him out just to get an i.v. in him. turns out she gave him too much, though, so he was out in the office for over an hour, became dehydrated, and they had to give him fluids to revive him. total nightmare for me. cha-ching, cha-ching for them. that time he had a urinary blockage and she recommended surgery. again, so much for holistic. she did that time say i should change his food and sent me to whiskers in the east village. i ultimately changed his diet and eating schedule and it took care of both problems (sans surgery or pharmaceuticals, i might point out). i can't remember whether it was her or whiskers who recommended the food (abady). i think it was her, so that's one good thing she did. but it was the staff at whiskers who gave me info on eating schedules.\r \r anyway. that was my experience. on top of all the problems i had with her, she's also relatively unpleasant. yuk. more

Really cared about my kitty 6/26/2008

I saw Dr. Mann when I took my kitty there for some stomach problems that were not getting better. He asked me a lot of questions and was very gentle when handling him (even though my sweetie wasn't scared at all!) He was also able to answer my question no problem. I also found out he's a holistic vet and knew lots about better foods and suppliments for his problem instead of just throwing a bunch of perscriptions at him and suggesting some sort of horrible commercial food full of all the things I've now learned that my cat is allergic too (grains and poultry). He told me some vitamin suppliments to get, and where i could even find them cheaper than buying it from them, and some good food brands and told me what to look for on the label and now my little sweety is so much better in just a few weeks!\r \r he Also returned a call of mine very promptly to answer a questions, and called me personally to give me test results.\r \r Great vets and friendly front desk Pros: close by, nice people, clean facilities, knowledgable vet, I really felt like he cared and knew what he was talking about. Cons: I did have to wait 3 or 4 days for an appointment. I dont know if it's an emergency if they're more prompt, or not though. more

dr. eisner 6/22/2008

I'm a new patient of Dr. Eisner, and came to this website to read reviews of past clients. I am shocked to read negative reviews of Dr. Eisner! I have had 3 appointments with her, and think she is a wonderful vet! She genuinely cares about the animals, and made an effort to help me choose the most important tests for my pet so that my bill wouldn't be expensive. She also was very interesting to talk to. She has an unconventional approach to medicine (she's also an acupuncturist), which I am now considering for my pet. I highly recommend her! Pros: dr. eisner, location, friendly staff Cons: very busy, a bit of a wait more

Great experience 6/22/2008

This was my first experience bringing my cat here and I was soooo happy. Everyone was friendly and caring.\r I was very impressed that no one here tried to give tons of vaccines , as so many vets try to do. My last vet gave my cat a rabies shot, a leukemia shot and a distemper shot all in one day. She became ill and did not eat for 3 days after her vaccines. \r Nutrition was discussed and all my questions were answered. The woman vet was gentle and kind and my\r experience was very positive. I recommend this clinic wholeheartedly. more

Rude doctor 6/22/2008

Very dissatified with my visit. I was quite hesitant to post a review, since people have bad days, but after speaking with many unhappy pet owners at the local dog run about my experience with Dr. Eisner, I was compelled to post. My dog had an appointment with her and it was rather disturbing. My pet is healthy and all she needed were updated shots, however this was not what the vet wanted to hear. I was told I need extensive labwork because she wasn?t a puppy anymore, and that she should be on some type of Chinese supplements because of the shots she was getting. Every time I went to speak about her shots, and tell her my dog is healthy, I was cut off and in frustration Dr. Eisner left the room for 10 minutes. She told me to take some time to think (Like I was a child). There was nothing to consider; I wanted shots for my dog. She later returned and left again to get her some ear cleaner. This took her another 5 minutes or so. At one point, I opened the door curious to her whereabouts and I hear complaining about a phone call that she has to make to a owner that she doesn?t like. Upon her arrival, I started to speak and I was cut off and told that if I wanted to ensure the health of my pet I would do the right thing have labwork done and she dismissed me by saying my bill will be at the front desk. My appt. was over even though I still had a question to ask. I have had dogs my entire life. Plus, I am not an uneducated individual as Dr. Eisner assumed I was. As I walked out in frustration, one of the pet owners in the waiting room said to they were sorry that I had to deal with her, because she can be quite mean if you don't do as she wants. \r I will not be returning to this clinic even though other dog owners said the there was another Vet there that was pleasant. She only wanted to run up my bill. Lastly, I was in the examination room for 40 minutes, but she was only in there for 10 minutes. Pros: Friendly technicians Cons: Rude doctor, small waiting room more

great experience 6/19/2008

I saw a ton of reviews about this clinic online, more than any other animal hospital listed, so I felt I absolutely needed to take my beloved old dog to this place that evokes such strong emotions.\r Put me in the strongly positive category.\r I saw the female vet, but cameo appearances were made by both the young vet (who gave my Lucy a cookie) and Dr Leiman, who was called in to check her teeth. Everybody, including the receptionist who got her some water, the nurse who trimmed her nails, and all 3 vets really seemed to care about her. I also got the shpiel about a good diet and some herbs that might help from the lady vet. But I didn't think it was baloney at all, I saw how earnest she was in wanting the best for my dog. It wasn't about money or here take some pills for her now go home, she was trying to make my dog's life better. Wow, what a novel concept .\r Anyway, I was impressed, and feel Lucy and I are lucky to have found this place. Pros: Caring, holistic approach Cons: small waiting room more

Terrible Clinic 6/16/2008

To start off...the receptionists were very nice, except one girl with blonde bangs had a bit of an attitude with me because I didn't pay much attention to her...and later on i heard her cursing in her conversation while i sat there in the reception area....then I had the female doctor who wouldn't let me get 2 words in...she BS'ed me about some nutrition thing for my dog that i could care less about and told me some BS about herbal stuff that doesn't even work....then she told me that i dont care about my dog because i dont want to follow what she says...and she left the room about 50 times to watch her staff and talk about nonsense....now i know why they recommended Dr Leiman instead...he at least shows care for the animals and the female doctor just looks out for her business...i dont recommend this clinic.... more

strongly recommended 5/4/2008

I logged in to this site because I wanted to share a very good experience I had at Northside Vet with Dr Eisner, and I am surprised by the last review. I feel Dr Eisner saved my cat's life. He had been hospitalized at another clinic in Williamsburg because he was spitting up and not eating for 3 days. I took him out of the hospital and over to Northside with very little money left to get a second opinion. She took a lot of time with him and really paid attention to his symptoms and the labwork from the previous vet. She went to look something up in a book as to how to best treat him, but other than that there were no distractions. She gave him an injection and dispensed 3 different medications for me to give (2 of them were herbal!) Unbelievably he started to eat the same afternoon and has not turned back since then.\r Dr Eisner was focused, caring and from what I can see, spot on. I can only say great things about her. more

Avoid Female Veterinarian at all cost 5/2/2008

Do I mind waiting because they overbook the appointments? of course, but I did. Do I mind a Dr who leaves the room in the middle of our appointment several times? Yes, of course. Do I mind a Dr. who decides to make phone calls while I'm still in the middle of my appontment? Yes, of Course. What kind of first impression is this? Not a good one for sure! And to make matters worse she kept asking the same questions. Maybe if she focused on my pet and I she would not forget the answers to her questions. I found Dr. Eisner's friendlyness to be very fake! I was recommended to see Dr. Leiman and now I understand why. Well I'll be going back to our previous vet. Pros: Clean office, plenty parking, friendly staff Cons: Doctor EISNER more

Wonderful Vets!!! 4/29/2008

I brought my dog here for almost 6 years. the majority of the time i was a student and they were always very understanding about the financial situation. as my dog older he was plagued with different health issues and Dr. Eisner and Dr. Leman were always so attentive and thorough on their exams. Over the years we discovered Ralph had hypo thyroid, lead pois., skin yeast infestions, some bad teeth. The last two years Ralph was diagnosed with cancer they were so kind and helpful not judging me on my decision to not treat it, as he was an elderly dog. We were all surprised he lived for 2 more years and I totally think it was due to the herbal supplements and home made food that the both doctors recommended. When Ralph's time came to put him to sleep both the doctors were so kind and made the experience as dignified as possible for Ralph. I will always recommend Northside! Pros: We always so kind and gental to me and my dog. Very thorough Cons: The office hours were not so great, They seem to have out grown their office. more

Wonderful ! Wonderful! Wonderful! 4/26/2008

I just checked in to write a review for Northside Vet Clinic and read this last review about cost.\r Let me say that Northside Vet is one of the LEAST COSTLY clinics I have ever been to. This is also very easy to verify. Just call and compare prices if anyone has any doubts. I have 6 cats and the vets have always workedwith me by doing just what was necessary in order to keep my bills low.\r However my main reason for going on line right now was actually to write about the acupuncture treatment for my cat with back problems. After one treatment , he is jumping up on the bed again. I want everyone to know about the amazing acupuncturists at Northside.\r Thank you , thank you thank you.\r \r \r Pros: Homey, inexpensive , competent and very nice. Cons: Parking can be difficult before 10 30 AM more

Incredibly costly 4/23/2008

I was scheduling my puppy to ""fixed"" and called around for pricing. Northside's cast was over double that of the other clinic/hospitals. I have experienced with my other dog that they charge significantly higher for office visits and treatment than other vets, but was astonished that they more than double the price of spay/neutering your dog. Pros: doctor knowledgeable, staff effecient Cons: very pricey, bed side manners a little abrupt more

Dr. Mann is the best 3/26/2008

We have been taking our very well loved puppy to Northside Vet Clinic since he was 8 weeks old -- Dr. Eisner and Dr. Leiman are just terrific, caring and very knowledgeable! For no special reason, however, more often than not he was treated by Dr. Mann -- we can't say enough -- the man loves animals and it shows! He has been terrific with our dog and has taken great care of him. So much so that I cannot walk my dog within a block of Northside vet without him pulling to go there or planting himself down until I bring him there -- all he wants to do is see Dr. Mann for a few minutes. And each time we stop by to say hello Dr. Mann and the whole staff are great! I recommend NOrthside as a clinic with no hesitations (and our dog has had several occasions of needing medical care and has always received excellent care) and Dr. Mann is just great! Pros: quality of care, doctors and staff more
