I wouldn't put any stars except it won't let me submit the review without at least one.
In the 2015 Fairfax County Virginia Homowner Referral Guidebook, MyPlumber is ranked as a good plumber and duct cleaner. Based on that I hired the company for both. The first plumber came and did an excellent job replacing a plastic icemaker line with the proper copper line but when it came time to hook up the icemaker I showed him the kit I had purchased and he said it didn't have the part he needed so he couldn't. On his service report he submitted to his office he wrote, "Psi 55. Installed new ice maker line to fridge. New shut off valve as well. Customer did not want us to hook line up to fridge. No leaks." Hello!? That was why I hired them. I called the parts place where I had purchased the icemaker and I was assured the parts needed to hook the icemaker up to the fridge were included. I complained to MyPlumber not ever expecting to hear anything. But, I did. "Harry" contacted me and said they wanted to make it right. Harry sent Scott to hook up the icemaker. The first thing Scott asked was why I hadn't bought a fridge with an icemaker to begin with, then how old the fridge was, then why Sears hadn't hooked up the icemaker when they installed the fridge, then how much Sears was going to charge me for hooking up the icemaker when they installed the fridge. I explained that the fridge was a Christmas gift from my son, that I wanted an icemaker so I bought one, that when Sears came to install the fridge they couldn't hook up the icemaker because of the plastic tubing, so I waited until I had the money to hire a plumber. He asked me the whole battery of questions again, ending again with how much Sears was going to charge. The man had been here fifteen minutes already, he hadn't even been able to physically pull the refrigerator out enough to do anything but peek behind it, he was on his second line of questioning as to why I didn't buy a fridge with an icemaker to begin with when I sent him away. For this I took another day off work.
As for their duct cleaning division. My experience is you would make better use of your money to throw it down your ducts and let the movement of the air knock the dust off. Those techs cut a hole in the intake when the intake opening was on the opposite side of the duct. I asked them if they blew out dryer vents as my had recently been disconnected to move my dryer. "It's not on the work order, we'd have to get a new work order and come back for that and that will run you $129 but if you want to pay $80 cash right now, we can do it." Trust me, if it doesn't soudn right, its not. They did blow out the dryer vent, I saw one of the guys picking up dust from the back porch. But I was doing the drywall work in the laundry room and happend to lean against the dryer and nearly burnt my elbow off. It was soooohot to the touch. A dryer repairman had once told me that was likely because of lint in the vent. So I climb to the outside vent and look in. There was still so much lint I decided it would be easier to run a new dryer vent which I did and guess what I found running that line through the wall and over the HVAC ducts? Nearly a 1/4 " layer of dust from where these hoodlums apparently blew out the duct work rather than vacuumed it out.
What gives? I read all these wonderful reviews but I have not had any experience with MyPlumber that left me feeling like the work or the expertise of their technicians was worth the money.
Just got a follow-up call from MyPlumber to ask me about my experience with the plumber today. I told her I was so mad she wouldn't want to hear what I had to say right now. She said, "Oh, okay, I'll put down that you declined."
